Capcom has some sneaky fucking editing.
i think you’ll need sentinel and another character with good vitality and meter building to use phoenix.
I’m assuming, Sent/Phoenix/Haggar… phoenix is just scary to use.
But Sent can build meter in like 1 fly combo
I wanna HSFxxBubbles 'Nix so bad
Assuming from the vids Capcom showed us, Tasky has at least “average health”, so this isn’t so bad.
Plus, he builds meter like a monster. And can do great damage by himself.
Haggar can’t offer much to Jean, from what I saw. Plus, he bores me.

Look at 0:56. Even in the tailer it confirms, her chip game with her fireballs is crazy in Dark phoenix mode…
I thinking of turing her into a sexy strider, with Doom and Sentinel, Assuming, she can do really good chip without DPM.
Unless Haggar has his lariat as an assist. If so since it seems to have super armor and high priority, a good GTFO me assist to let Jean survive.
So I saw some of the Sent vids that had Phoenix. Damn this bitch got worked.
It’s great she has all these offensive options, but you get clicked once with crouching A which leads to magic series, launcher, air combo, OTG, repeat she’s done. You have to pretty much play perfect. And, I don’t necessarily think her offensive options outweigh the offensive options as some of the characters in comparison to her abysmal health.
It’s ridiculous. If you get caught with a random hyper (and random hyper’s have some place in MvC3 considering many of them are reasonably safe) I’d imagine 50% of health is gone.
Haggar has a good assist, it’s a “get em off” assist, and seeing how it sends the opponents off is almost like a replacement commando (with out the height). I would say Sentinel and Hagger -> because of his assist in majority… i just think that if you want to main phoenix you’re other members need good health and damage out put in order to tank the team until phoenix can come in and burn the shit out of every one. And sentinel and hagger (or hulk) are the ones i see giving this (unless dante’s health is well-average).
From the amount of damage phoenix gives from chip alone, then the fast teleports, mix ups, screen spamming projectiles. She’s still not a low tier character, therefore you need to strategies her well.
In all, she can not be a point character, period.
Not super armor, but straight up invincible apparently from what others deduced in his vids. The life loss was due to him using the Lariat itself, which is a throwback to how it worked in Final Fight (use a bit of health to use the move).
I’d rather just put Jean in when the opponent’s team is in a weakened enough, so she can chip them away in DPh without too much risk.
Most likely Sent’s assists would cover a lot of the space, so she can get in without too much hassle. Sent by itself also seems an auto-sufficent character, so that’s a good plus.
People will most likely turtle/run away if Jean uses her Healing Field, so I’m not that worried about being pressured -the character itself is meant to be played “perfectly”, right? If she get hit, chances are she’ll die.
Thing is, I just don’t like Haggar - I’d rather giving up Sent for another “GTFO Assist” than putting him on my team, just for my personal reasons - Tasky is that good for building meter and his damage potential is pretty nice, as seen on the vids (which none are high level play, btw).
IMO, smarter uses for Jean would be to put a good point character with her - and having that same character to KO at least one opponent or weakening the opponent’s team enough while building meter.
When the bar finally reaches level 5, you can put her to chip people away in DPh, tagging out when necessary. Less risky and most likely to succeed.
Why does everyone always assume they will get Dark Phoenix every fuckin match?
Unless you somehow manage to not build 5 bars it’s pretty easy~ Though it’ll have to be a conscious decision it seems to either go for DPh or healing field.
Because building 5 bars is easy. If you do nothing but get hit with your first two teammates and conserve meter, you will get Dark Phoenix. That doesn’t mean people will get those bars every match due to snapbacks or assist punishing, but it’s not crazy to base a team off of getting her - she’s made for that assumption.
Healing field is only useful for once you are Dark Phoenix. Otherwise she takes damage too easily for it to really be worth a full meter. It’s meant to be used to counter the life drain in Dark Phoenix form, and it only works in melee to ensure you don’t just projectile spam with her (4 homing projectiles is nasty).
Yeah, but to get those 5 bars how much are you sacrificing? You won’t be able to use any of your other two characters hypers etc. etc. There comes a point when it may not just be worth it…
That’s why I mentioned Tasky. He could very well work without spending the meter to up his damage - his combos are already pretty good from what we saw.
Plus, you gain a level of meter everytime you succesfully do an aerial-combo-exchange (aka team aerial combo).
Just ignore Skye, people - he’s a hater lol
Flat-out, if you’re not going Dark Phoenix, why use Phoenix? She’s not amazing enough to justify her risks. According to Seth, her assists are bad too. Look at her reveal trailer, and ask yourself if she seriously offers enough as just basic Phoenix to use as a character over another rushdown option. Phoenix is a gamble every time you play her, and you should play to win.
I laugh at the irony of giving Phoenix a healing super when she dies in one basic combo.
Less usable than Seth, I think.
You don’t take the “red damage” while you’re on the Healing Field. Essentially, the move also buffs slightly her fragile defense.
Love it when people don’t research at all.
Again, the point of Healing Field is to counteract the natural life loss in Dark Phoenix form. It goes like this in theory:
- Achieve Dark Phoenix form.
- Spam the hell out of tons of crazy projectiles that chip for as much as normal projectiles hit.
- Life starts to get low from natural lifedrain.
- Healing field.
- Rushdown to heal up.
- Repeat from 2)
Obviously it won’t be quite so flowchart in a real match, but that’s the basic idea. It’s a mode to extend your time as Dark Phoenix, and nothing more.
According to Seth, it does not buff her defense at all:
Truly ironic.
