it has nothing to do with being teamed with phoenix. its the ground bounce version of air exchange that builds that much meter. the other exchanges build normal meter. air exchange is wonky…for more reasons than this one.
Yeah so it’s all about the bounce version exchange I guess back to drawing board to see what other tricks this girl, I thought it was unique but it look in the beginning same vid ryu’s team is also getting the crazy meter too
I shake my head when I see Phoenix get hit, if you have Phoenix out, and your opponent has Hulk… You don’t want Hulk to smack Phoenix… a blink ‘‘down!’’
so seeing from the new vids phoenix literally dies to any ABC>Special>Super combo as seen against ryu.
So you have to base your entire assists around her or she probably won’t stand a chance, so forget about taking her as a third.
Yea her health omg.
Yea cant wait to hit the labs with her. She makes Seth’s health look like Gief.
Yea, I can imagine you probably have to be extra careful with her as an assist. Imagine a phoenix assist getting caught in Chun’s Legs or right into a quick super like Ammy’s elements (The startup looks really fast. For those who played it was it fast enough to punish a sloppy assists?). Since the scaling doesn’t happen for the assists, losing a character like that would be pretty infuriating.
ammys elements is one of the fasters hypers and you can catch sloppy assists same with ryu and storm and a few others
hahahahaha this thread fucking cracks me up. So funny to see people with same reaction as mine.
“omg her health sucks worse than I thought…can’t wait to get in the lab with her!!!”
Also funny to see the extreme opinions about her team placement (point vs third character) and healing field (worthless vs essential). Stay awesome SRK.
If you look at how much red life Phoenix has when she dies, I’m pretty sure she’d have survived those combos with 1/3-1/2 health if she had Healing Field up. I think it’s going to be more of a playstyle difference whether you keep your meter for Dark Phoenix, whether you spam Healing Field, or combo into Phoenix Rage. Point Phoenixes will probably use Healing Field if they want to keep their risk low. Post-battery Phoenixes will probably use meter for comboing into Phoenix Rage and then DHCing into another character, turning into Dark Phoenix if she dies before landing a combo. You could also keep Healing Field up until you run out of meter or eat a combo, then try to swap out to someone else to build meter so she can threaten Dark Phoenix again when she’s back.
EDIT: Also, the life regen you get from X-Factor could probably allow her to survive a combo, too.
Sent calls her “Jean Grey” lol
i wonder if both can work together on the same team.
How is it useless when with it activated you’ll have half your life left instead of being dead when caught by a basic combo into hyper.
Huh, so it really seems to be ground bounces that build up the meter, not Phoenix herself. Interesting.
Also, looks like wall bounces do the same, like in the combo starting at 1:03 in this vid:

And 1:54 in this:

That video (and the others) also made me realise Sent builds ridiculous amounts of meter off his normals, especially in his air combos. Sent for potential battery too?
EDIT: Also forgot to mention how Healing Field seems to somewhat help her defense in the video with Sent hitting her by almost instantly refilling her red life as she gets hit (1:05):

So in a way she might take overall less damage from melee attacks if you decide to keep HF up as much as possible. And if it wasn’t mentioned before or I missed it, I guess this confirms she loses HF when she tags out.
Once you have 5 meter with Normal Jean, you can “Stride or Die” without fear.
But once you activate Dark Phoenix, you can bullet spam+teleport => tag => life regen => repeat
damn this broad bleeds (see what i did there). i still wanna see a full combo on her during healing sphere.
IMO, Tasky is a better battery for her.
He doesn’t depend on his supers to do crazy damage, builds meter quickly by itself, and you can do the exchange-combos like in the vids for an 1-level increase.
I know that I’ll run Tasky/Jean/Sent, with Tasky on point. :V - can’t wait.
Fixed. Dark Phoenix generates massive meter once you get her out - use it.
It sounds to me like you just want to use Taskmaster with her, and not that they actually fit each other particularly well. Which is fine, but maybe such a justification is not necessary.
If healing sphere is constantly activated, phoenix will be better than ok defensively…
You’d just need to use 2 other guys who don’t hog up the super meter so that you can get dark phoenix in every once in a while
Are you sure about that? I’m pretty sure it only takes one of the vids.
EDIT:
1:05 yeah 1 bar.
For now, it’s impossible to know if they do have good synergy or not. I’m just brainstorming a little.
Tasky really builds meter fast, does good damage and is all-around effective, being self-sufficient on point. As I said earlier, Tasky isn’t a meter-whore - he can do good damage on his combos without using Hypers.
If also paired with someone with a low assist, Tasky can setup nice unblockables. Jean can just come later and clean the mess, ala a late-game sweeper.
We’ll have to hit the lab to know more stuff about them on a same team, but I’m optimist about it.
Yeah see I knew it took 1 bar, but then I went to double check using this video
oXk-6fVFxCc]YouTube - Marvel vs Capcom 3 - Phoenix [720p
It turns out that they edited in 2 matches, so I was comparing 2 different bars lol my bad.
Yeah so with healing sphere taking only 1 bar, Phoenix can be very durable in the hands of a well practiced player.
