Some people seem to think she has many similarities…and then some other people would think you’re insane for suggesting such a thing.
Phoenix/Doom/Dormammu (or Dante) or Phoenix/Hulk/Doom

She is really only similar to Strider in Dark Phoenix form.
I wouldn’t even said that I can see why people would say that but I don’t agree with it
Not really. I don’t think she’s Strider at all, but I think Phoenix/Doom could be the new Strider/Doom (if that makes sense) The only three things she really shares with Strider are her rushdown, stupid fast teleports and glass jaw. I suppose in DP mode her auto projectiles could fill a similar role to orbs, but that remains to be seen.
Until we can really flesh out what DPh does and entails it’s just too early to say it’s like Strider’s Ouroborous. Even then, to get to that point you need it to be setup properly. You’d have to get Jean to 5 bars and still have Doom available to start the rushdown/lockdown.
Again… it’s kinda early to see if you can REALLY make a team with those 3 that meshes. So far it looks like Modok is the type of character you have to build a team around (like Phoenix) because of his deficiencies (sucks ass in close range, susceptible to rushdown tactics). So if you run a team with him and Ammy and Jean… and Ammy has the meter assist… Who’s gonna protect Modok from rushdown? Jean? Well, we don’t know what her assists are yet. And if then… who’s gonna protect Jean from rushdown and chip damage? Modok can’t do it with his assists.
I do think they can DHC into each other pretty well, though.
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSAN saying:
Modok and Phoenix aren’t throw-in characters. They’re not good all-around/have dramatic deficiencies. Teams need to built around/for them.
Rushdown, teleports, and the auto-projectiles indeed. I didn’t says he is Strider, just that she is similar, and they do have similar properties - that cannot be denied. I am not presuming she can fill a Strider-like role in the game.
Hypothesis: since Jean’s little fireballs take no meter, once you get Dark Phoenix, Doom is excess, not a necessity.
Meh gotta get the feel of her. Im gonna apply rushdown with her on point, and see if she can be solid in that playstyle. It seems risky but who knows she will be my Red Venom.
When she starts to resurrect, is she open to being attacked? You know, like how you can attack Gill in 3S?
So far it doesn’t look like it. When DPh activates it lets out a screen size wave as she instantly turns into Dark Phoenix.
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
However, the only time we’ve seen it activate was when she was attacked by Dante and subsequently blasted him with the wave while he was still striking her. Unknown if it’s unblockable, if it activates if she’s chipped to DPh, or even if it activates on chip.
Pretty sure, DPx will activate if she’s chipped so long as she has her full meter on.
The DPx transformation seems invincible, and the video also shows Dante being pushed back all the way across the screen taking some damage as well.
While it’s obviously best to wait and see, I predict it will be unblockable, since the blast does no damage. Although it might be interesting to consider how one could utilize X-Factor to cancel the effect of the blast…
Are you certain? I recall no damage being done when I watched the video.
So how would Phoenix do with America and 23?
Just looked at the intro vid again. It didn’t do any damage.
This has been THE INVINCIBE SWORDSMAN saying:
Now after thinking about it… I wonder if you can counter the activation of DPh. So much stuff to lab. I won’t lie. I was in the shower this morning thinking about stuff to try. I was wondering to myself if you can DHC into Jean’s HF. And if you can…
Morrigan’s rocket hyper is pretty slow but she’s very safe when it’s out. What if I DHC into HF while it’s out on the screen and instantly teleport? Can I get to the other side off the enemy while the rockets are still on the field?
getting your ass beat
Actually Very interesting in her.
General consensus is OP/broken to the public masses.
We know that isn’t true but interesting to see how she turns out.
Look guys, Phoenix is on my dream team too, but getting her to five meters might be a chore. The fights that I’ve seen people hit meter max are the ones that I keep thinking, “Why did they skip so many chances to deal hyper damage?” about. Not only that, but I think I see myself sacraficing a meter just to snapback that redhead in early so I can get rid of her while she’s no where near max meter. Just something to think about.
Bring it! You’re wasting a meter as far as I’m concerned. Now you’re getting my best character in the game. Just not at level 5.

I ain’t never scared.
:wonder:You made me laugh you cocky brat. The only thing is I’m on the PSN:shake:
more Dr. B gimmicks? Who would have thought. 9_9
There’s to many ways to get to 5 bars on this game infact most times by the time the second character is in there usually at around 4 bars
As long a Phoenix isn’t point it shouldn’t be to bad.
I plan on hearing “I can’t control it” 100% of the time when I play Phoenix
