I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

How is it? I don’t really get it much… Can you teach me please?

You have it backwards. Snapback if she breaks out as Dark Phoenix, snapback her in before the team gets 5 bars so you can kill her.

Why do you plan on always dying? I kid.

If tomorrow build is the final build or build with Phoenix at the gamespot tournament expect a flood of people in the thread complaining about broken Phoenix is. Especially if a top player like j Wong plays her.

I’m kinda hoping if she’s playable everyone who plays her gets washed. But I can see the fireball then teleporting behind people killing most at this point in time. People still can’t handle sim doing it in sf4.

god forbid dph makes it on to the screen

Fixed, although I think something like Doom would still be important, if not necessary, to fill in gaps in the pressure.

Dark Phoenix gets buffed assists though so you might not want to snap her out.

her assist were said to be not great so not really really sure how big a deal that is

Well if she starts spewing those mini projectiles all over during the assists they could get nasty.

Even if the assists are buffed, think of how much damage Chun-li took from Storm’s hyper, and then think about punishing Phoenix on assist - a quick waste of 5 bars of meter for your opponent. Yeah, her assists will be buffed, but a lot of characters get buffed assists, and I seriously doubt hers are worth 5 bars of meter, or even two, considering what Arthur gets.

Dormammu is going to be my main in this game, and I know if Phoenix is on the other side I’ll be saving Stalker Flare, XFC, Stalker Flare for her. That chip takes like 30% of the life off a normal character, and I bet it will almost or outright kill Dark Phoenix.

that’s true using dark phoenix as a assist could end up bad , some characters have real fast hypers n punish assist easy and the damage she takes …well

It would be Phoenix’s job to make sure Dormammu can’t use his strengths. In the Dorm thread we already discussed how teleporters could be a problem for him. She just needs to adapt to her opponent’s playstyle, to make them fight on her terms.

Beating him down is one thing, but it’s pretty hard to completely stop a Stalker Flare, and once the first one is out, the second flies out naturally. It’s one thing to say you want to beat Dormammu, it’s another thing to say you want to be able to ensure he can’t even get a hyper out.

Hrm. Just speculation but…right now it looks like she’s going to be best played as a whiff punishing character, not rushdown or runaway though it looks like she happens to be decent in those areas too. Building your team around Dark Phoenix seems like its going to get you in waaaay more trouble than it’s worth for alot of reasons. Regular Phoenix seems strong enough as it is without having to worry about life drain and meter gain. Seems like it’d be best to have her run second and her top priority being to knock out anti air assist characters first…then switch gears to rushdown with the 3rd character assisting. DPh seems like something you shouldn’t go for…just something that happens and you work with as the situation calls. She looks super fun, but I’m willing to bet money her counter picks are going to be brutal without a very strong defensive assist. X-factor/DHC hail storm = peace.

I agree and since Dormammu is one of my mains as well, I know how easy it is for him to bring out a hyper.

In my previous post, I meant to say that stopping Dormammu from using a hyper, would be a hard thing to do. However if she does, she’ll have a better chance to win.

Well that applies to most of the characters so, I just wasted space stating the obvious.

Well, in some of the Sentinel/Hsien-Ko matches, it showed Phoenix dying with full health from a ground series into one level 1 super from Hsien-Ko or Ryu, so, verified: don’t ever get hit, at least not without Healing Field on.

It also showed her using her fireball assist, which I believe is the fast, straight forward, non-tracking version. It didn’t show any assists in DPh mode, though. So, we at least know she has that fireball and the dashing attack.

EDIT: So, apparently the official names are TK Shot and TK Overdrive. I wouldn’t be surprised if TK Trap wasn’t her other assist, most likely on the ground.

It showed DPh regenerates health while tagged out, so it doesn’t just neutralize the drain, it actually heals her up like everybody else.

BTW, the fireball, even when it’s the straight fast version, does track, albeit to a reduced degree.

Do not get hit boy im tellin ya . I literally lol’d when Ryu pieced her ass up with tha bacon bits combo he threw at her. I repeat do not get hit

Wow the damage she takes is more extreme than I thought. I dunno what to say about her as a character now. That shit was ridiculous. Oddly enough I’m now more interested in playing her, or seeing people wreck shit with her.

EDIT: One thing that was brought up in IRC that nobody talks about: Every time you successfully use an air tag/exchange combo, you AUTOMATICALLY advance to the next level of super meter. So if you have 2 bars of super meter and hit an air exchange, then you automatically go to three bars.

My eyes almost popped when i saw that, i had to rewind to make sure she was at full health. Seth wasn’t kidding, never get hit. Hopefully she will have the tools to even this all out because if they made her glass simply because of dark phoenix, i will be a very sad camper.

Btw anyone else find it weird watching a sentinel and an mutant work together? I never really acknowledged it in mvc 2 because they didn’t have callouts, now its just weird hearing sentinel call out to jean and vice versa lol.

Yup I noticed this too, I guess it’s just a special thing with her, and much needed.

I hope y’all realize what I haven talking about in the thread now. Touched from anywhere and you die. She simply cannot be point, and from the looks of how she gets a bar for exchange it’s even more reason too not have her point but last.

I suggested that even before I knew about the whole bar for exchange( why don’t people listen to me )

She can do Damage on point but if she doesn’t do serious damage or kill a character from jump your screwed and no dhp for you. It looked like dho has a tad bit more stam, but it could be my imagination.

So yeah like I said it’s beat to focus on getting dph out. While having a strong Phoenix as well.

Edit: also I want to say again that healing is useless as Phoenix and and only useful to keep dph alive and possible get another transformation (if possible) down the line.
