I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

Whatever, she’ll be fun regardless. I wouldn’t use her as a last character though.

Yea alot of options low health character. As a Seth player, she excites me.

She excites me too. I don’t care about low health, I like rush down options. And my matches will be over quickly.

the red-bar negating properties of healing field seem pretty impressive to me in some of these videos. The low life and HF, as well as her really fast meter building properties are obviously a method of forcing Phoenix players to have to pace themselves rather than easy mode it up.

I kind of dig the idea of her, it’s like she has all the tools to be a one of the most dangerous characters in the game, but you can’t just bum rush it easy mode style, the game forces the player to have to keep composure and use everything she has. Plus making Jean a character almost totally reliant on her meter is pretty fitting. She’s physically weak, but she harbors tremendous power to tap into inside. I guess we’ll see though just how much HF will negate her lack of defense, or if it’ll just be too harsh a penalty. Personally, I think how effective HF is will be what makes or breaks her more than anything.

She looks completely broken, i can;t wait to try her :stuck_out_tongue:

^Magus, are you doing something with Haunts with 1up.com in the same vein as pre-release SF4?

Hmmm, maybe…I hope so

On topic though, I wonder how strong her spamming homing fb’s in and out of dark phx versus how her rushdown and high low/ front back mix up is. I hope shes more rushdown but either way she looks dope.

Obviously this is just conjecture but my guess is that she is going to have to use her wonky projectiles, assists and teleport to open them up but also to run away a lot as well as play keep away. Her life isn’t going to allow her to stay in for very long outside of a combo, she’ll likely have to get in, get out and rely on her shenanigans to get her back in for the next big string.

I am interested to see if she’ll be weak vs. Chip heavy tactics or if her super will help to either make that tactic pointless or at least balance it out to a normal level.

A friend just made this :wgrin:

Horrifying.

Phoenix is kind of giving me the impression that she’s going to be this game’s Strider. Glass chin, but quick teleports, combos for days and healing shield looks like it may even be able to serve a similar function to orbs as long as she can do something to make up for it not hitting. Plus she has a nice variety of projectiles like Strider’s animals to help in those not-so-ideal moments.

Dear god, she may be Strider’s rush with Storm’s runaway. Shit health or not, that would be obscene.

Healing shield doesn’t do anything to help lock people down…just gives you health.

I hope Capcom added a menu into training mode to activate Dark Pheonix so we can actually practice with her…

Yeah seriously. Until someone has stuff that orbits them and shoots fireballs they can’t really be called “The next Strider.”

It’ll (theoretically) make them scared to come close to you and force them into a defensive position, no-one is going to want you to be able to heal after they just spend time and energy depleting your life…

He is talking about in terms of game play style.

So now that we know how Phoenix works more or less who looks like a bad match up for her iyo?

IMO off top

Ammy
Deadpool
Storm
Doom with assist and photon spam

Wesker

Once Morgz gets in she’ll be a problem, but 'Nix can keep her out imo

We can see what happens when she gets punched in the face already. She folds like a paper fan. But even though her options are nothing new, they seem filled with the potential to be worth dying in one combo.

O_O that’s just scary.

I don’t see why. Punch her in the face, she dies. She heals red life at an astonishing rate, but that just means you’ll have to hit her a bit more often. You didn’t want to come close to Strider w/ Ouroboros because doing so resulted in you getting your ass kicked automatically. By chip or hit. Phoenix? Without Healing Field she gets her ass kicked quick once you hit her. With Healing Field, She gets her ass kicked just the same once you hit her, but she heals some damage as you do it.

I think the hyper will be more useful for mitigating the damage zoners deal you as you try to get in. Chris’ Open Fire SMG burst took 25% of her life. EM Disruptor took like 20%. Healing Field will be useful for getting back the health you lost getting tagged or chipped with means to keep you out once you get in. I don’t think it’ll act as a good deterrent to keep people trying to rush you down and end your life from doing so at all.

I agree with Storm. Dat Ice Storm is big trouble for Phoenix. Ammy, probably. Her BnB takes almost 50% of Ryu’s life. That’s probably at least 75% of Phoenix’s. Plus Slow down and Full screen Hyper means problems. Deadpool… not so much IMO. She seems like she can get around Pool easily. Doom… Not sure. Photon array could be an issue, but I think he’ll be more dangerous for her as an assist than on point.

I think Dante will be a problem. He’s not quite as mobile, but fast enough to keep up, and her life is so low that I don’t even think it’ll take Dante X-Factor to 100% her. He’ll probably end up a touch of death character to Phoenix, and it won’t be the same vice versa. And unlike Hulk or other characters that are likely to be ToD for her, Dante can keep up.

Viper might also be a problem as long as she has meter.

haha we’re just gonna have to agree to disagree

So they’ll just stop hitting you the whole match and let you build meter off of them then?

xD
