I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

Well DUH hot is the opposite of cold. Hot is red, cold is blue.
Positive is the opposite of negative, so positive charges are red, and negative charges are blue.
Magneto is the Master of Magnetism and blue + red = purple.

… DUH!

Nice to see that she recovers quite nicely when tagged out.

Also, fireball + teleport could lead to some interesting crossup situations. Heck, it might actually lead to some guard break-like scenarios, fireball the incoming character and teleport behind/above them as they block.

When it comes to authenticity, forget about the purple shit. How about the fact that they reference gravity in several of his attacks when gravity has nothing to do with electromagnetism? To my knowledge, the character’s sole power is the manipulation of electromagnetism.

Maggie has figured out the Grand Unified Theory, that’s all.

I think they’ve tried to explain away purple shit as representing… electromagnetic… zappy… rays… of doom.

Can’t explain the gravity though, they should just replace the word gravity with magnetic and they’d be fine.

Seriously though, Magneto’s power isn’t manipulation of electromagnetic energy it’s doing whatever the fuck he wants as long as the name involves magnets in some form

You mean the Theory of Everything. A Grand Unified Theory only unifies electromagnetism, the strong force, and the weak force.

Edit:

Sylari: True. Comic book writers love the “because we said so” approach.

Also I realized, after thinking about it for a bit, that technically Mags could feasibly have some sort of gravitational manipulation abilities, considering electromagnetic fields have mass and therefore cause a deformation in spacetime; however, the strength of the field required for there to be a noticeable gravitational effect is completely absurd, and would pale in comparison to the effects of said electromagnetic field. I’m not going to get into to all that though, considering that this is a Phoenix thread. On a fighting game forum.

So sorry, I thought this was the Phoenix thread.

She looks really fun, love her mini “Floating Bomb” projectiles, fast fast eight way air dash, Psycho Crusher than can go upwards and multihits, the air “ground pound” move that leaves enough hitstun to magic series and launch…

…but that HEALTH, goddamn.

I get spanked by Seths all the time. I dont have a problem with a character that has that many tools to have low health like that. Especially considering that she that resurrection move. It will be interesting to see what she can do against Doom Rocks and Dorm Portals. Even blocking she takes chip like a bitch. Either way she looks like she will be fun to play with and will be quite challenging to play against in the hands of an skilled opponent. I look forward to fighting this flaming broad.

In the second vid, Jean does healing field hyper at 2:04 and it increases her life over the red bar. Maybe it works like that if she’s close to her opponent when it’s activated?

Second video, at 00:28, when she has her healing field Wolverine hits her with a berserker barrage while she was blocking, but she doesn’t take chip damage.

Maybe healing field = no chip damage?

That whould increase her poor life when she don’t attack

Not only that - no RED BAR damage.

Healing Field helps Jean greatly.

Man she still takes chip, it’s just the red is recovered right away so it doesn’t look as bad.

Her actual life meter still goes down

I was gonna come in here and post this, but was beaten to it, dammit!

I rewatched that part a few times and came to the conclusion that it didn’t actually increase her life over the red. Pausing the vid and placing my mouse at where the red life stops before she activated her healing, then playing again, her life refilled exactly to that point. What seems to have happened is the screen distortion effect from the super freeze moved the life gauges back a bit, so in that split second it only seemed she recovered more life than was there.

I think she might be mid/high mid, if that helps.

Just realized after watching the new vids that Phoenix’s Fried Chicken Hyper is actually a projectile, and not a torpedo move like say a Psycho Crusher.

SMH.

lol i’m back and forth with this character. i’ll reserve my final opinion on her until i fully understand her capabilities, and more importantly, her underlying mechanics. there’re still several unknowns (i.e. Healing Sphere stats/properties, DPh stats/properties, assist stats, etc.) that’ll determine how good she is in the long run. truthfully, i’m not impressed by her gameplay vids. weeeeeee, she can rushdown, teleport, keepaway, crossup, 8wayAD, divekick, :blah:, this is a vs series game, ain’t nuttin new. lets see what happens when she actually gets punched in the face.
i’m still awaiting to see how she takes damage during healing sphere. if she takes damage well, then we’ll have something on our hands.

Honestly i don’t see her being anything worse than mid-tier, like seth from sf 4. She just has too many tools to be flat out terrible despite her flatulent health. But of course thats just my opinion.

Pretty much agree with you on that, I don’t really try and predict characters spot on the tier list, but Phoenix from the looks of things will be a overall solid character with lots of options.
