Thought you only got one bounce per combo?
Yeah, I know that if there’s one game that can handle broken stuff is Marvel. But I dunno, with some team settings, I can see Phoenix being really strong to the point of not only staying a long time without taking damage or even using too much meter. Well, I’m not scared, let’s see how that turn out.
I believe (per an interview with either Seth or a dev) that you are allowed one wall bounce and one floor bounce per combo.
I was watching a video of phoenix in another match and specials on block do like 1/7th chip on her and who knows how much chip she gets from super, maybe 1/5 chip
The videos are always frustrating, chun: “I’m gonna try dash and then just stop so you can hit me!”
Still the same thing with Phoenix, she’s gonna be a meter HOG with it looking like she needs the healing field on near-constantly. Seems not bad to use, just scary as hell (for both sides!)
So basically you can do a wall bounce AND a floor bounce on the same combo string?
I.e. Pheonix
Don’t know if possible since I don’t know her Hyper Bird’s properties, but from reading what others have said on the previous pages, let’s say…
- Cross up into an Air combo
- Finishes off with a mid-air Hyper Bird combo (opponent thrown and bounces off wall)
- Hyper Bird combo again (opponent bounces off floor)
- Hyper Bird combo again ???
Probably not, but it looks like her Hyper Bird combo hits quick with an instant start up, and she recovers quickly from it too.
Talk about Fried Chicken… I think I’ll just call her hyper that
Oh man, Phoenix is Aoko Aozaki on prison-quality meth. I wonder if you can stack Starmines on top of the Phoenix Crest projectiles and how you control their direction.
I’m the only one that noticed that Jean while tagged out recovers her life pretty damn quickly?
Seems like that putting her in, doing some stuff, and placing another character would be viable to throw off the opponent’s rhythm, since she recovers that fast (kinda expected, since she doesn’t have much health to recover lol).
Lol I can imagine Hulk vs. Phoenix. Zoning zoning zoning zoning zoning. Phoenix: “yay Im winning!!! Gets hit WTF 90%?!!!”
Her health is so Seth like. She looks really good as a character though.
Meh if I played Phoenix I would absolutely have her on point every match. She seems to have damn near every tool except good heatlh, so I’d build a team around keeping her alive via augmenting her rushdown or zoning. The new vids really impressed me with how much annoying shit she can put on the screen.
Did you guys notice that she can also apparently put a phoenix on the ground, and it sets the location on fire? I wonder what are the properties of that? Like Chris’ incendiary grenade (pure damage), or does it trap the character like Dorm’s? It can be seen in this vid at about 1:25:

You can’t see her place it because Magneto is super jumping, but you hear the animation for the attack, and when Mags comes back down you can see the fire spot on the ground.
I wonder if she can survive being an assist when she switches out…I mean with chun li legs punishing assist its gonna be a nightmare…hmmm I wonder if phoenix is killed while being an assist but you have 5 bars…do you think she will turn into the Dark phoenix ?
It works like Trish’s trap. Phoenix used it in her Dark Phoenix gameplay, but it covered a larger area.
I seriously can’t believe people were talking such shit about this character just because of low health. This is fucking Marvel. After a couple of months of people taking this game to the lab you can bet your ass that if you get caught with pretty much anything you’re dead, low health or not.
This character looked interesting to me before the vid even got to the DPh part. Dph is just a gimmick, but I think Phoenix has some more going for her than that. I’m going to stick her on a keep away team when the game comes out and see what happens.
I am so far behind on the MvC3 roster stuff.FINALLY Phoenix is in a Marvel game & her losing her life energy in Dark Phoenix mode is one nifty little add on.
Phoenix has 5 specials (that we know of):
Fireball: Her standard projectile, can be used in the air or on the ground, changes depending on the button pressed.
-A version: Faster to start and travel, single hit, moderate homing.
-B version: Homes in on opponent and moves slowly, hits three times.
-C version: Similar to B version, but hits five times and deals the most damage.
Phoenix Summon: Her second projectile, she places her phoenix symbol, and then a phoenix erupts from it and flies across the screen as a projectile.
-A version: Places the symbol in the air above her, shoots straight across the screen.
-B version: Places the symbol directly in front of her, shoots diagonally upwards.
-C version: Places the symbol upon the floor, shoots straight upward.
Flame Rush: A rushing attack, she charges forward, multihitting and covered in flames.
-A version: Straight forward, hits three times.
-B version: Launches up and forward, hits four times.
-C version: Straight forward, travels farther, five hits.
Teleport: Phoenix teleports, and reappears in a burst of flames.
-A version: Appear directly in front of your opponent.
-B version: Appear directly above your opponent.
-C version: Appear directly behind your opponent.
Flight: Phoenix hovers in place, and you can move about while hovering. Standard flight mode.
Assists:
Her C version Flame rush is an assist.

Can you add this to the OP?
The issue with Phoenix’s health isn’t that you can kill her in a single combo–as said, that’s true for almost anyone in this game with KFC and DHC. But her health is SO low that she stands a good chance of just dying through occasional pokes or projectiles getting in, chip damage, or even just accidental death getting caught up in a crossfire, to say nothing of being an assist. She’s going to be very all-or-nothing, I think, but definitely scary when someone gets it right.
Yup, she recovered about 1/8th of her health in 4 seconds (about 2 second in-game). On the 2nd video, she tags out at 74 and her health is full by 72.

If someone was willing to, they could look at videos and compare the # of pixels gained during say 1 in game second, finding the frames where it changes seconds on the timer, and by measuring the pixels on the health bar at the start and finish.
If someone did that, we’d know the stamina rankings of all the characters so far (though I doubt anyone would be willing to do it.)
Seems to me like there are two major playstyles that Pheonix could reply on.
First one is keeping her in a constant state of healing field. With healing field up, she actually doesn’t take all that much damage at all when being comboed due to the instant red life regen, making her much more durable in the long run. Should allow players some margin for error.
Second one is to spend the match building up meter for Dark Pheonix, which is probably much more risky.
Random pokes turning into K.O.s isn’t exactly uncommon in this series. That said, I’m not saying her low health isn’t a weakness. I’m saying all that “roll tier” talk just on account of her health is baseless. She seems to have good tools. I hate to say it (because theory can be fun), but this is just going to be one of those calls that will have to wait until launch.
Personally I’m planning to run her with Storm and either Dormammu or Trish.
