I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

She’s not blatantly overpowered

Maybe if she was as fast as she was and killed people in 2 hits she’d be banned. She doesn’t even look like she’ll be better than some characters.

WTf? The other dude deleted his post?

Anyone know the answer to that question?

U N B L O C K A B L E

It said virtually. Maybe it clouded the screen and G4 guys cant block for shit

virtually unblockable

basically projectile/assist/ & teleport

Heh

I know I’m not the only one who smiled when Chris shot her in that video.

Why did it take one of the canned gametester vids for people to believe in Phoenix? Extremely fast 8-way air dash, fast attacks, fast teleports, big damage, healing super, and slow homing projectiles. In a game with all sorts of lockdown assists like Chun Legs, Ammy Ice, Dorm Portal, Doom Rocks/Missiles. It just seems… obvious.

From the vid, it seems like she can continue to combo after that flame super knocks the opp off of the wall. That would be pretty big damage.

most likely this. They prolly couldn’t deal with her teleporting from side to side while the projectiles rain down on them.

Something I noticed and am having trouble explaining. At just past 1:20 in this video, Magneto does what looks like a low A -> B -> C poke string on Phoenix. She blocks the A, then advance guards B, which pushes them apart so that the C misses altogether. But on the medium attack, she takes some sort of chip damage. Did I miss something, there?

I’m pretty sure someone brought that up in the Mag thread as well. Apparently there was another vid where his blocked cr.B did chip damage.

Banned characters in marvel?

After watching the video, I think Phoenix is gonna give scrubs night mares online. Fireball teleport will prob shut down so many people. She’s not gonna be as free as I thought, if she can land a magic series to super she gonna hurt whoever she hits, she did alot of damage to the hulk quick

That said based on what we’ve seen. Sofar I think storm Phoenix, morrigan and Phoenix, storm morrigan is gonna be really strong.

You can play a dhp build ( if morriagn still has the assist that gives meter) or rush down build with morrigan as a AA.

Another battery for dhp is felica Phoenix, chun/dante. Chun’s LL or dantes AA for assist to hold character in place while using that time to build meter via felicas meter charging special.

Phoenix is a nasty mix or Strider/sim/and storm. She seems pretty straight forward tho.

don’t get hit tho…

And I wouldn’t waste supers on her healing super. She takes Damage to badly to depend on that, at best it seems like it will be good to for getting breathing room.

Unless she can dhc out from it and keep the buff… That would be hot

she seems pretty gimmicky to me.

If you live long enough to turn to dp you deserve it, she was more or less dead after 2 of magnetos distruptors

no…

Yeah but you can’t look at her as if all he has is dark Phoenix and nothing else. Her toolset is godlike. She isn’t just GET 5 BARS FOR DARK PHOENIX LOLOLOLOLOL, a good player shouldn’t even worry about having to use dark Phoenix.

Rule number one of marvel games? Don’t get hit.

Strider Doom was also “gimmicky.”

And Phoenix doesn’t look gimmicky at all. She looks like she can be pure crossup/mixup rushdown or pure projectile keepaway.

She’s just gonna have a very high skill ceiling. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

She’s definitely got the whole damned tool kit, though I agree that her healing field is going to be situational only, rather than a catch-all saving grace. I think her stamina’s going to hurt her in another way, though, that hasn’t really been talked about: chip damage. Chip is a huge factor in this game. We’ve already seen some crazy stuff, like that vid where Thor chips like 25-30% off of someone with a single X-Factor’d Thornado. Phoenix takes HUGE chip damage. Now, she’s plenty mobile enough to avoid getting locked down very much, but a single block string into super xx KFC xx super could end her if she’s already taken more than a hit or two, and that’s doubly true at clutch time at the end of a match or in DPH form.

Edit: I also wonder about her lack of a real beam projectile. That could hurt her against keep away. Though it’d be interesting to see if the “scattershot” added to her normals in DPH mode interacts with projectiles in any way.

IIRC in the earlier video, it shows Phoenix ending an Air Combo with a Fireball that throws her opponent to the ground; and as he hits the floor, his body bounces up which enabled Pheonix to combo him off into her Phoenix Bird Hyper even though she was on the other side of the screen.

No, I mean comboing after the Bird Hyper. It causes a wall bounce, and it looks like Phoenix recovers in time to continue a combo. Which might mean some double Bird Hyper combos…

Yikes! :amazed:

If she can do two, what will stop her from pulling off 3 or more, especially if her Hyper Bird hits quick and travels across the screen? Unless the auto-bounce rule limites her from comboing some more.
