I still don’t understand why Joe Q. was/is so hellbent on her being dead. He’s probably really pissed, especially since Emma Frost isn’t in but Jean is lol. Also good call on the Phoenix Saga, it’s been a while since I watched that show, such good memories.

Jean was put in because Stan Lee always wanted a love interest in the old comics (see invisible woman, who also started useless). They realized she was a useless cardboard cut out for the guys to fight over, so they made her phoenix.
They realized phoenix was still lame, so they did the dark phoenix thing. Given the era, that actually seemed fresh and dramatic, so it worked and people actually thought it was this cool thing.
Phoenix sucks. That being said she looks utterly beautiful in this game (altho I also now totally think of Totally Spies when I see her)
I see where you’re coming from and I agree that Phoenix was brought to make Jean more interesting. I guess it just stems from when I was little tho, I was in love with the Dark Phoenix thing. Recently I reread the comic and was thinking to myself “I don’t remember it being that corny last time I read it.”

I know it’s mostly about fan service in this game anyway, plus the fact that just had the dark phoenix sorta in the Wolverine and X-Men Series, the minute the game releases Marvel will do it does bet cash in on the cash cow which would Phoenix
90s X-Men cartoon Phoenix Saga was sooo bad. Jean as Phoenix in this game just makes perfect sense, I have nothing against her being in it. It’s just that she should be a God, and with Dark Phoenix, I think it makes up for it.
I think it would just be redundant to bring her back in the comics (although it’s been done a dozen times before). Still, glad she’s the one in the game instead of her husband.

Wasn’t it kind of obvious that she would be returning to the comics sometime soon? Marvel will only put characters in a MvC game that are “relevant” and that will help as a form of advertising for any of the comics they will be appearing in.

People either love the hell out of her, or they hate her guts, but it seems like most of them hate her guts.
I do remember the Phoenix Saga from the cartoon, but fuck, that was so long ago and I was just a snot nosed kid with a short attention span.
Basically, why do people hate her so much? What was so bad about her that people so passionately loathe her?
So the more I look at the phoenix vids the more it stands out that she is not a point character. I dont think she should be last either, I really feel like if you dont get DP its a waste. Unless phoenix has some nasty nasty nasty rush down or zoning that hasn’t been shown yet.
Her health being that incredibly low in a VS game seems almost free, Even with a healing super. And the fact that they hint at her assist being weak hurts too.
I Think once DP is out tho its pretty much GG if its 2 on 2.

Phoenix is one of those character you either hate or love. Some like her just for her power or cartoon and never read her in comic. In comic, just kinda a meh character. For most.
She does have her fans, you either hate or love her.
She’s one of those characters that Crazy OP in many different ways, but pretty much a good hearted good guy/girl. Also people dont like the fact that she can die and it won’t really mean anything.
The funny thing is she is one of the most popular and longest to stay dead marvel characters to date. Its been over 10 years, but people act like it was yesterday she got killed.
She’s easy to hate in a nutshell, and hard to have a real reason to dislike, a OP good girl that is a do gooder and at the time had a do gooder hubby.
