Uh. Well I’m not sure if you can instant overheard with her tridash per se. Her tridash would be more for helping her get to the other side of somebody or making someone think they’re attacking high when you dash dash to the ground very quickly with a low or do her air :l: and hit before you land from the air dash making it an overhead. But there’s nothing really “instant” about that. It’s more of a jump-in mixup.
Her “instant overhead” would be her air:l:… if she actually had an instant overhead. This would be accomplished by jumping and as you barely leave the gound, hitting :l: and it hits your opponent if they were crouching but you’re in the air. However… Jean’s jumping :l: doesn’t really connect. Well… I know it doesn’t connect on normals sized characters. I’ll have to check if it does on bigs.
This has been THE INVINCIUBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
Ok yeah… jumping :l: works on bigs so she does have instant overheads on them. But Wolverine’s jumping :l: hits everybody except Racoon and Morrigan I think.
Yeah its stupid alright, it punishes players who actually like using Jean on point but honestly i’m not too mad. Capcom wants Dark Phoenix to crush the entire opposition? Bring it, we’re ready.
In other news, i’ve decided to actually practice some DP combo’s outside of x-factor. So far so good!
I regularly play on Up Your Game’s PlayStation Network stream. If anyone wants to see a point Phoenix, I’m usually on whenever they’re playing Ultimate. Quality may vary, depending on how cold it is in my room and how bad my connection is.
Ok, I really hate to admit it, but I’m actually having issues with people timing me out in Ultimate. I never had issues with this in vanilla, and pretyt much laughed at the idea it was possible at all, but with the air action nerf, slide nerf, and the throw tech bug, I’m really having issues with it now. I’ve never had any loss make me as salty as this shit before.
What are the proper methods of dealing with this in Ultimate?
well someone tried that against me today and i went for air grabs and when i got them i did a tk air fire ball and got around a 400K combo of of my air grabs. Also you could use the traps to put them in blockstun and go for a 50/50 while on the ground such as a standing forward m her instant overhead move. Usually catches people off guard. also if you get them in the corner you could go for some fly/unfly shenanigans for some fast overheads
OK so I was playing with this last night.
When you fly away from the opponent you are actually facing away from the opponent. So, If you H Teleport during this you actually automatically cross-up teleport.
Another thing is after M TK Overdrive you can airdash twice. I don’t know if this is new to UMvC3
So my idea is you go for your BnB and if they block go M TK Overdrive, Flare Sword away, f.ad, uf.ad, call assist if you’ve got it (I use Strange Bolts), H teleport to auto cross up.
Hello, I’d like to call your attention to this video:

Wesker kills Dark Phoenix immediately after transformation at 1:22 and 4:50. I’m new and don’t know much about the mechanics of this game, so could someone tell me how to escape that situation? Thanks!
That is one flaw to her transformation. Same problem she had with Super Skrull in Vanilla. Easy Solution is to have her transform at a distance with Wesker. For Skrull, full screen or directly above his head. Just be ready for the meter smash into his hyper or a random hyper to chip her out
I watched the Morrigan mobility guide in the main page, and I think the core theory of it can be applied to Jean. Can someone help me with this? I’m no expert myself on all the technicalities and stuff, so I need more help… Unless this was already known since Vanilla.
Just an FYI for all you phoenix players out there come Final Round I’m bringing Phoenix back from the Danger Room. I’m really dissapointed in the lack of even 1 phoenix showing in top 16. I think it’s time to change that. Hopefully I can make it to the top with my Zero, Ammy, Phoenix team
Well Idk, that’s why I asked for help… It at least enhances her air mobility in a way, I guess, making her air dashes safe. Maybe there are other uses for this.
Thanks man I’ll try. And do you mean air dashing with her and doing S? If so that may work. Haven’t had much chance to practice marvel these last few days due to exams this week but I’ll check it out friday afternoon/saturday.
And I feel like phoenix is so good w/ a lockdown assist such as ammy to make her teleports safe and go for Fuzzy guard mixups.
Well, that does work, but the whole point is to avoid “raw” air dashing altogether. Idk if I remember correctly, but I think Jean’s Flight has been made slower?
Ammy or Doom, probably? I really never got the hang out of Ammy to use her… Not that I tried too much though.
I am really enjoying the excitement of playing phoenix, and the power I feel when I go dark. My team is wesker/frank/phoenix which works really well as frank in higher levels builds shitloads of meter and his shopping cart is amazing. However this would be my first real time and I don’t know whether it’s worth playing phoenix with the amount of anti phoenix technology. Basically, is she worthless now that so many characters can kill her as she turns dark, or with the side exchange x factor thing?
Well think of it like this. If somebody hits your anchor, you lose, that’s how marvel works essentially. So Phoenix’s health isn’t too much of a problem in anchor position. Now you can just play normally and use her assist like a tatsu and use meter if you want and just play anchor Phoenix or DP if you get her. You can play exactly how you normally play and your opponent can’t. If they snap in Wesker, they are not killing your Wesker and risking it on a mixup on Phoenix. If she lives, great, if she dies, oh well you still have dark Wesker.
People calling her worthless, don’t understand the game. She has a fully invincible super available in the air, good normals, tracking teleport as well as a semi-tracking fireball, decent tri-jump, traps, xf infinites that give you heaps of bar and of course Dark Phoenix.
If you instead played your team with Akuma > Phoenix, what benefits do you have. A faster super, invincible DP, worse rushdown, slightly better health (not really gonna matter) and doesn’t have half the stuff Phoenix has.
I think people are starting to catch on now, ChrisG picked her up and is playing her alot smarter than most.
Anti Phoenix tech requires people to hit Phoenix and even still it’s not guaranteed. If your anchor is getting hit, you lose with any other character most of the time, Phoenix actually can have multiple chances.
I still think she’s the best anchor in the game, with or without 5 bars.
