High damage outside of the vortex? How? And I didn’t mean percentage wise, which is obviously also true, but just raw numbers. Air fireballs are pitiful, his normal fireballs deal less damage, same for his far standing roundhouse compared to just about any heavy normal Ryu has. He does deal good damage from jumpin combos and his SRK BnB is about on par with Ryu. Given your claims, what would I be missing?
I did mean raw numbers. Percentage wise he does worse damage than Ryu (since he has high health), but Akuma does above average damage. Compared to Evil Ryu he does less, but it isn’t glaringly less, and Evil Ryu hits like a beast. Compared with the tools he has and his above average damage he’s a good character. He has some solid bnb’s and can deal good damage from numerous ranges (and get in easy compared to most characters). Although his fireballs are weaker (same as Evil Ryu, but E. Ryu gets no air fireball) he has the air fireball for zoning.
If you mean in individual hits, his damage isn’t spectacular (but not terrible), I just simply meant landing a combo with Akuma vs Evil Ryu (who is a power hitter) isn’t a glaring difference. Especially once Akuma gets meter.
Maybe we’re talking about 2 different things. I do agree that his vortex is the way to get damage with him though, no doubt.
When I say percentage I simply mean that landing a combo on Ryu with Akuma vs the opposite would be in Ryu’s favor since he has a much stronger chin.
I have no idea if you’re talking about O.Ryu vs Akuma or E.Ryu vs Akuma at this point
A bit of both. E. Ryu was only in regards to damage.

The Evil Ryu forums have definitely gotten a decent number of new posters lately. It’s good to see.

Why is Sasaki getting out of Nagao’s cr.mk->fb all the time? I’m watching the set atm and I’ve lost count how many times Sasaki bingo’ed Nagao through the fb after blocking cr.mk. Isn’t it supposed to be a true blockstring?
If it is at the maximum range I don’t think it is.
I think Nagao was hitting those cr. MK at the tip every time he got reversal’d in between the special cancel into fireball. I too thought that cr. MK > fireball was a true block string outside of hitting a extended limb. But I guess that’s not the case after all and a max range cr. MK into fireball isn’t a true block string. Oh well, at least it can combo from that range, which isn’t the case for every other shoto.
I know it isn’t because my opponent would bounce back 2x even though it would combo. It was a huge gap between hits in that case.
An odd thing I noticed that Nagao is doing is just cr.lp s.lk on Cody’s wakeup. I know that s.lk can be special cancelled even if it’s chained but Nagao was missing all the HP shoryus everytime he hit the chain lol. He also missed a bunch of combos :X. I liked that one combo where he ended with cr.mk kara dp lol.
Is the HK crossup setup he uses after a throw character specific?

E. ryu at ~15 min does it as well. It resembles akuma’s far hk os, but nagao wasn’t osing anything from his inputs? Maybe it’s supposed to os f.mk? But why do that instead of cr.hk against an opponent like cody?
