Quick words from the fool : This shit right here is what i like to see…that pressure that agressive playstyle is how my evil ryu runs, i know he has his times when he has to play defensive then explode…but damn i hate when those time come, I rather when my evil ryu is dashing forward ready to rip my opponent limb from limb with his high damage output and setups , real talk
Yeah!!! That was impressive but also dangerous
Here they are… my first uploads. ANY suggestions welcome. I have this on both PC and 360, this is PC gameplay which isn’t 2012 yet. I thought it would be convenient to play this since I have FRAPS on the PC… Here goes my recent win and loss.

I tried doing some DP’s on reaction to his rush punches… I’m guessing the best outcome is trade? Won’t be doing that anymore…
Ok I had enough I’m not trying to be rude or disrespectful but you need more control as in go to training mode and practice your combos, spacing, punishes and movement, because if you were playing me all that jumping isn’t going to get you nowhere but DP into Ultra… So I can only hope the next video you post up isn’t a disgrace to Evil Ryu. Again I’m not being rude!!
TKO he’s a beginner. Gotta go easy on him.

[]Practice your combos. This is important because if your opponent messes up, you can get the most damage from his mistake, ending the fight a lot quicker, and scaring the shit out of them. You blocked Yun’s up kicks, and punished with a light SRK for 100 damage. You could hit him with cl. HP xx MK Axe Kick > c.MP > Tatsu > SRK for way more than 100. The more you practice your combos your brain won’t have to tell your fingers what to do. Your fingers will already be doing it.
[]Work on hit confirming. This is also important. If you notice your opponent blocking attacks you shouldn’t finish the combo. After he blocked the axe kick, you gambled on c.MP xx Tatsu. It hit that time, but you won’t keep getting away with that. Go into training mode, set the dummy on random block and try this combo.
j.HK > c.LK > c.LP > c.LP xx MK Tatsu.
If you notice he blocked the j.HK, you shouldn’t do the MK Tatsu. If he doesn’t block it, finish the combo.

[*]Spacing. This is intermediate. Know the range of your moves first. Once you are familiar, you won’t have to HK Tatsu from full screen lol. Walking is the better option 9 times out of 10. You’ll get into your range safely this way.
Definitely work on the first 2 though. It’s worth the time you put into it. Trust me. You’ll get a whole lot farther once you get those 2 down.
Thanks. Yea there’s a ton of stuff I know I coulda done better after watching the replays. Here’s my responses to what you pointed out:
The Yun punish: My usual punish for something like yuns upkicks is cl.HP, light tatsu, heavy srk, or light srk FADC fireball if I have meter. I took that DIRECTLY from akuma though. Is Ryu’s best punish the for something very close the axe kick combo I gambled with?
cl.fierce> mk.axekick not connecting: So far I’ve been throwing out the cr.MP connecting or not, it almost always results in a counter hit and I finish the combo. I know it’s because I’m fighting shitty players though. I just got the PC version and am starting with those bottom players. I’m real screwed when the cr.mp is blocked and I go into light tatsu though…
I guess I’ll stop going through for good habit.
Tko Fox: I doubt I’ll be posting any videos anymore cause that was real harsh. I never though I would be disgraceful with how I play.
Spoiler
Jk. I’ll take any criticism… which I hope usually includes advice
Well here is a nice treat for everybody. Sako playing against a high ranking Evil Ryu in a mirror match. To me it looked like Sako spent 1 hour in the training room with Evil Ryu and decided to teach this guy how to play the character. No mix ups, gimmicks, or anything of that kind. He just played extremely solid like Mr. Naps. And as always, his execution is spot on, I think he did at least 3 axe kick combos per match. He just throttled tao x mako who I don’t think landed a single axe kick combo.

I’ve been wanting to say this for a long time now. I gotta disagree with you heavily on your opinion how evil ryu should be played. Yes he has a ton of gimmicks but resets like cr.mp, ex axe kick after a tatsu wont work on pros especially offline. You might get in one nasty reset once but thats it. I think evil ryu is all about meter management + his cr.mk. Knowing crossup gimmicks is very useful but knowing footsies + spacing with him is way more important IMO. IIRC you or someone else said they didnt like the way Mago played E.Ryu. I gotta disagree because even though he lost, he displayed some very solid play. If you see sakos evil ryu hes all about spacing, using only little setups when jumping in. I think this is where we should head with our evil ryus. Concentrate more on frametraps that will enable us go into axe kick combos, then rape on from there. Dont get me wrong, I use the cross under jab reset after tatsu almost everytime, but its just I think many of those tricks wont be useful in a real match vs a pro. Also what most people dont get is how punishable lk axe kick/ex axe kick is. If one reset doesnt hit youll end up reversing the momentum.
IMO what we should try and learn from this videos are their frametraps and spacing. Look at sako he stands face to face with his enemy and isnt scared of a low forward or anything because he know he gets his moves out way faster from that range than the enemy.
Again this is just my opinion.
Sako’s spacing/footsies are so gdlk
I understand, although I think you may have misunderstood what I meant. It’s not that I want Evil Ryu players to play how I play, I want them to know all there options and if they feel there is a good opportunity to try something then they should. The way Naps and Sako plays Evil Ryu is basically the same as one would play Ryu, zoning and footsies. When they score knockdowns, it’s safe jumps or frame traps. I think they’re passing up opportunities to do more damage and confuse there opponents and keep them guessing.
A lot of the stuff I mention are just gimmicks, it’s ways for myself to deal more damage since I’m simply lacking in footsies and zoning. I go for it a lot because I want to keep testing it out to see its effectiveness. I don’t think a top Evil Ryu player should be doing that, they should be playing more like how Sako played. But mix it up when you have the opportunity, go for the hard knockdown with HK axe kick that cost no meter so you can make them guess on wake up again. Don’t just go for max damage and relinquish the pressure when they still have plenty of life left.
If that’s the best way to play Evil Ryu and that’s the route you want to take, I hope the best for you. But I simply can’t play that way. Basically I’m weak in too many aspects of this game(like zoning, footsies, reactions, spacing, etc.) to be able to play that way.
I totally agree with you there, I mean thats why we all switched from Ryu to Evil Ryu right? Evil Ryu has alot more options and thats the whole fun about him. I agree that people need to use those more but I dont think Evil Ryu is the new Seth in terms of gimmicks. He has enough tools to confuse the enemy but if you will go that route in a pro match, you need to be sure thats its going to work/keep up your momentum. Evil Ryu simply doesnt have the crazy speed because of his slow normals, thats why I think going for the damage most of the time is the better&safer way. When playing Evil Ryu, I think to perfect him you have to get better in spacing, zoning, footsies etc. Simply because these attributes open you the door to mixups & damage. Mastering his cr.mk is one of the most important things to do imo. I started playing really patient, no wake up srk, just analyzing the enemy, I dropped from 3,8k pp and 10k bp to 1,9pp lol. In the end its worht it im back up to 3,4k pp and 11k bp and my playstyle has evolved.
Edit : I’m really talking left and right now, cooking chicken and scared its going to fail, so excuse the messy answer.

Sources Say sako is thinking about maining evil ryu
I’m just going to say it like this to all these reset talk just say no and go for the grantee damage. A reset is a 50/50 and that’s a big gamble for Evil ryu special because he does not have the life
Resets will always be double-edged swords, whether we like it or not. We can try to make them as safe as possible, but it’ll still be 50/50 at best, and you’d be paying a heavy price for not landing it.
I won’t lie, E. Ryu’s damage output when he lands a reset is phenomenal, but the risk is just too high for a character with his health. It’s not bad, but not too great either. especially once you face someone with experience on the matchup, which seems to be on short-supply and probably will be for a while due to the recent Daigo tier-list. Kinda ridiculous how many people jump on that.
But that’s for some other place! Time to point out some interesting things from the Sako videos! Only watched the Sako vs tao x mako video but I saw some stuff I found noticeable…
04:26 - Reactions! Too bad most of U2’s damage comes from the end of the animation, so he’ll probably go U1 when he gets serious. I could be wrong though…
06:34 - Possible safe jump setup with Shoryu FADC Axe Kick? Yes, I do realize I’m misusing terminology here, but it does look like it would force 3f reversals to whiff.
08:24 - This is probably Sako’s godlike spacing/reaction in action…but punishing whiffed Cr. Forward with far Standing Fierce? Too hard to tell if Sako moved a pixel because of the potato quality the video is in.
12:21 - Wasn’t this supposed to be a 3-bar combo with an EX Hadouken? I see Sako pulling it off with a regular Cr. Forward xx Hadouken FADC confirm. This is pretty huge considering U2 goes into full animation. Could just be an execution thing.
15:08 - Rare footage of someone using Counter-Hit TC.
18:24 - Standing Forward war! Sorry. Just too funny to pass up because it’s hilarious to look at.
You mean real sources or are we just talking about these videos that have been uploaded recently? I’d love to see that happen though just to see his take on Evil Ryu in the long run. Right now I assume he’s just playing him for fun so he’s using the basics. If he mains him, I wonder what else he can come up with and if he perform well enough with him to change peoples opinion of Evil Ryu as far as tiers go.
As for me, I’m going to continue playing gimmicky. I like doing that and there is no way I could ever play like Sako, not even a poor man’s version. This is part of the reason I dropped Ryu for Ken before AE came out despite being a Ryu player since I was 9 years old back in the World Warrior days.
Real sources…supposely i honestly dont trust em all that much to be honest we should just wait and see
Fool’s words on playing evil ryu: Im a pressure style evil ryu (as the other vid where i spoke about this suggested) and i feel i do pretty well, yes my playstyle is very wild and in term makes for alot of high risk on the outside, but in truth in playing my agressive pressure style im also smart enough to know what people will or will not expect, i feel evil ryu should be played just like that, ON INSTINCT. IMO you should know him gimmicks, you should know his resets, you should kno his zoning, and you should know his links, and then sit there and just go wild, not taking any time to breath. how far has this gotten me? I won a few locals (about 5 or 6) in the last 2-3 months playing this way after i stopped being extremely scared safe player…however, this works for me, i agree with rice that he can be a very gimmick like character and be successful, and we see how sako plays him as well and it is definitely successful as well
