Yeah just some things bound to be overlooked when I’m trying to cover so much. It’s definitely great that he can just mash cr.lk and end with cl.lk into a combo! lol
When I make the follow-up video, it’s more than likely going to be only about the axe kick, since I only went over MK pretty much, and didn’t even mention that you could combo from cl.mp as well as fierce. There’s a lot of great lk setups that don’t necessarily belong in a combo video but should be covered.
Whats with those “top” ranked E.Ryus? How do they get away with constant c.mk to lk stomp over and over… its so punishable… I mean really… -7? Mash jab or something.
This. Even though it’s very unsafe, I use cr. MK > LK axe kick a lot. The push back will make it safe against fast light attacks like jab. And I don’t think most characters have a far reaching normal that starts up in 5 frames or less. Anything 6 or above, the timing to punish will be pretty small so most people don’t time it right or to be honest, they have no idea how unsafe it is and don’t do anything. If I see that, I’ll spam the hell out of it until they do.
At least in AE 2012 it will be a little safer since they removed a extra frame of recovery. So unless your opponents character has a 5 frame normal with good reach, I would just keep going for it until they prove they can hit a 1 frame punish. And even though Balrog is considered such a strong footsie character, you can practically do LK axe kick for free against him(as long as you space it right) since he has no answer for it on block.
If anything, what worries me the most is people being able to time there invincible attacks inbetween the cr. MK and LK axe kick. Now that will make me stop doing it.
Yea, I tend to get a hit out of it a lot more than I’m actually punished, although I have run into some smart players that won’t let you use it at all. Pretty sure cl.mp xx lk axe kick is a true block string, though. I couldn’t mash or jump out of it in training mode.
Here is a match I had against a pretty good player named Geom DC Hustle. This guy is obviously the better player, but I made it very close because he has probably never seen the mix ups I’ve been doing before with Evil Ryu.
After going for dive like the first 30 times, I guess I should have changed it up and did a cross up instead. At that point I guess I already conditioned him to believe that I was going to dive kick again. That was basically the game changer right there.
Oh and Jin Masters, if we ever Evil Ryu mirror, i get shirtless hobo Evil Ryu ok
Adon is such a hard matchup for ERyu, 1 focused jaguar tooth and your life is gone. I prefer using U2 against him, will make him think twice about using his jaguars. I like your personal mix up with the dive kick against the quick wake up but srsly, you should atleast go for cr.lp, cl.hp atleast after the second time. There are times where you should go for damage and where you should rack up dmg through mixups.
BTW ALL YOUR ERYU ALT #1 COLOR #10 ARE BELONG TO ME.
Trust me, I would if I could. I’ve spent so much time in the training room working on this link but my consistency is like 50% at best. Which sucks because if I could hit this link, I could have done 2 straight axe kick combos in that match in rounds 1 and 3 and stun him for sure. But I have no confidence attempting that link, same goes when I use to play Ryu. I never went for the forward fierce into crouch fierce link.
I use to think the axe kick combo was only for punishing. But man, his dive kick is actually pretty nice and sets it up perfectly. I kind of hope some of you other Evil Ryu’s with better execution could try that mix up and go for the axe kick combo. What’s really nice is that after landing a tatsu from a axe kick combo, you can dive kick into another one even from jab because the spacing is just about right. Well that’s if your opponent like to do quick get up and isn’t accustomed to blocking it yet.
The cr.lp,cl.hp link is really easy if you plink it. Also if you plink a cr.mp after the axe kick chances are bigger for it to succeed. Maximizing damage with ERyu is one of the most important things imo. I’m going to experiment with that setup a bit more it looks really interesting.
