Just wanted to post this up from the Tomo at Evo threat in Evo forum, to lay my cards on the table, and not have to repeat stuff endlessly. Concerning all the people who kee saying how strong HF characters are…
in absolutes, sheer overall strength. If you had to pick 1 version of each character. Every1 keeps siting charas like HF Ryu etc… your all wrong…
BEST VERSIONS:
RYU: ST & CE
Everyone remembers HF Ryu being super good, with his invulnerable Cyclone thru fireball tricks and zoning out Guile, but, what people dont seem to realise is that CE Ryu has the invulnerable Cyclone too, he runs at the same speed in AE as HF (the speed increase is one of the factors Ryu got better overall in HF, esp against Guile, compared to CE) and he does about half again as much damage with every hit!!! He loses the air cyclone, but unlike say, HF Ken, its of very limited use and nowhere near worth giving up the insaine damage.
Before AE came out, I was certain there would be speed differences between the versions to balance things better, like CE being slower than HF, but no… To me, CE damage is deffo too high to play at ST speed.
SAGAT: CE & ST.O
ST.O cancel off the far/2nd hit of many of his normals, far LK being especially nice and far s.MP being useful against Dhalsim’s ‘tall’ crouching block. He has the fleshed out arsenal too, being able to cancel more moves and some nice new hitting angles like ju.LK and j.MP (useful against Vega esp). But CE Sagat has the power, possibly the most damaging character in the whole game, just retarded damage on TU especialy. He also has the CPS1 Tiger Knee, wich must be one of the most useful moves who’s potential has been lost in the CPS2 era. Its an awsome reposte, air counter, fireball escape etc…
GUILE: CE & WW
Nuff said.
BLANKA: HF
My only 100% HF choice. People aren’t even going to play Blanka anyway in AE coss he’d get eaten up by ST top tier (Boxer esp) so bad anyway. Even Jeff, the best HF Blanka player in the west, doesn’t fancy him in AE.
DHALSIM: ST or CE.
ST Sim up there obv, CE is the most powerfull oldschool, tho he can’t teleport (not much of a loss). WW Sim, tho powerful, can’t triangle jump, so is very imobile.
CHUN LI: ST
No contest. Retarded Super, super annoying ultra wide fireball with almost no forward movement while throwing or recovery, midrange hitting s.MP while retaining uber footspeed and throwrange, 1 st frame counter etc…etc… Doesn’t even have to ‘fight’
CLAW: ST & CE
ST obv awsome. HF has a better roll, but in no way is worth the damage deficit.
BOXER: ST & HF
HF has the inv TAP obv, which is going to be effective against cetain characters, and esp against players who aren’t used to such a move (there is nothing else like it in SF2), but this will flatten out with time and collective knowlege.
But overall, ST Rog is just the most powerful SF2 rushdown character ever. Super is the most broken move in the series outside CE Dictators psycho crucsher. Midrange hitting s.HP/low Dash/Buffalo Headram/Throw = paper sizzors stone guessing game in Rog’s favour and free distance closing. Uber priority normals like c.MP & c.MK for footsies, floating j.HP, SF3 like charge tricks for Super/Buffalo off a dash, retains all throw mixup patterns etc, etc… etc…
DICTATOR:
Why repeat all this again: http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/show...66#post3096966
ZANGIEF: ST & HF
There are a few matchups where HF has it I think (like Dictator), the Turbo clotheline which is great, easy c.HK of chained c.LPs, more throws, but ST has midrange hitting s.MK, distance covering Banishing Fist, better clothlines against Tigershots and ofcourse SUPER. Am open to argument on this, but either Geif gets gobbled up buy ST top tier Sim and Claw anyhow…
KEN: ???
I’m open to argument here. Is between three imo. CE has the damage obv, HF has all the old great stuff, less power but the air cyclone which is a fergotten gem, and Super has the awsome slow/fast fireball zoning ability…anyone. Again,no version of Ken is in any top tier anyway…
SSF2 New Challengers not counted in this argument obv… So there I have only 1 HF character overall stronger than thier other versions, and he’s (Blanka) vulnerable to ST top tier… Also the few debatables are non top tiers anyhow, so essentialy, I have no HF characters in the AE top tier…
Crayfish.
