And before anyone says Japan, just watch their prime time game shows with millions of viewers.
Idiocy isn’t a uniquely western behavior. Depreciating your own culture and not being able to point fingers at other cultures is unique to the American liberal elite. Blind multiculturalism sucks.
I’m all for people getting hype but some people do need to cool down the shit talking (looking at you, marvel players.) We play video games, not sell crack, stop trying to be a thug.
Some random facts about arcades in Japan:
-Many fighting game cabinets are set up to have only one person sitting.
-The other player sits on the cabinet behind the first that is linked with it.
-Some cabinets have a large LED winning streak counter display.
I think that the fact the players are separated by the cabinets might eliminate the quick trash talking, although one could just simply walk over to the other player.
i hope the quality of threads/posts on srk get better after evo and evo dvds. that way people can have a good idea of what the scene is really like. OFC there is more to the scene than evo but i think evo is a pretty good representation of what it’s like in a big tourney.
sometimes i feel like making a big write-up to help all the new people understand components in the fgc but it’s not worth it. i think evo and more exposure of big tournaments will help others understand things. + someone is making a documentary about the community so that should help too. btw, read my title
hype to me is when you have those 2 players going at it and for some reason wither you hate them or love them you cheer them on. why because you love the game, becuase you can some times cut the tention with a knife its these epic struggles that make this game and many more games great. its that feeling u get in a room where your hair is just standing up in the back of your head.
Hype to me can be sumed up in one sentance.
The Feeling that you are a Part of Something Great!
To the person who posted this thread: With all due respect man, there is a mighty fine difference between hype which is no diff from a wrestling or boxing match where the person talks a little trash to make the match more epic and engaging which why its called what it is: Hype and then there is stupid shit like this…
The above mentioned link is an example of what crosses the line beyond mere hype and into just being a prick. That has no place in the community because the fighting game community at the end of the day is one built on respect. But hype does have its place in gaming.
Hype to me is getting crazy excited and rooting, not just for your favorite player, but for a good match in general.
I think the only people who gets hyped in Japan are those crazy ass announcers. Seriously, they get like MvC2 hyped. Whenever you watch SBO videos, the announcer goes crazy, but the crowd is always dead silent. I’m sure that players like Daigo, Iyo, and Poongko would appreciate it if their fans back in their respective countries would get more hyped though. Daigo and Iyo themselves said in an interview with www.iplaywinner.com that they loved the hype they felt at the US National tournament.
I’m sorry, but if you have ever been in a match in a tournament where multiple people are watching you and cheeering/yelling (aka getting hype, no matter how annoying or trashy it is), you definitely know you hafta’ beat your opponent and win… Hype just brings the game to a more competitive and fun level… and thats about it… Hype = Fun… makes it more enjoyable and desireable… I especially love when the crowd gives out loud booming sound effects when someones executes a nice combo or ko’s somebody with a powerful move! Its so hype! lol
I got massive hate at the last tournament I was in for beating a girl. What the fuck man, she shoulda stayed home with the kids it’s not my fault.:bluu:
Being a girl is not an excuse to lose in a fighting game imo, it’s not like that makes her handicapped in some way. Whoever gave you the hate was way sexist :wtf:
If I was her, I’d be damn mad at those people for looking down on me like that.
