Just the supers/specials or does he know the names for the regular moves as well (Gamefan guides always include those)?
Trash talking in Japan happens, more often than you think, but it’s usually with people you know and are friends with, and not as (seemingly) hate-filled as America.
i.e. Calling people (or themselves more often than not) naive, stupid, slow or childish
I blame it on Marvel.
Since quite a lot of people on this forum seem to almost worship Sirlin I’m quite suprised that no-one has linked to this yet on this thread.
I don’t agree with everything he says in his book but this seems reasonable enough.
agreed.
its a part of mind games.
discourage that mofo and if loses because of that then “Harden the fuck up”
especially if theres money on the line.
While I have my own feelings on the matter, I’m not sure if anyone would be interested in the ramblings of a 34 year old geezer. I’d be more curious to hear what somebody like gootecks might say, considering that he’s actually attempting to expand and financially capitalize on the Street Fighter community with his interesting Bar Fights concept.
Yeah, hype is over rated.
I rather play competitively with high tier friends then to play random high tier people and scrubs and get pissed.
but i admit i do cause a lot of hype…LOL only as a spectator…not when im playing…that shit gets on my nerves…call me a hypocrite.
I blame it on nothing because it isn’t a problem.
This post generated 35 negative rep, wow seriously? I guess some don’t really like not being called douches then ; or should i wait like 2 more years and then come back posting here ?
You probably should read beyond the join date for once and if you feel like neg rep please make shure you leave a better comment than “…”
I think some of you have never attended a sporting event. This shit has been around since SPORTS.
Competitive gaming is not sports.
The king of hype in america is justin wong. But he got trashed by daigo in sfiv tournament.
link plz. i need to see this.
holy shit. shut the fuck up. keep on picking ken plz
There is a big difference between showing your enthusiasm for a game, and being downright disrespect for others.
It just so turns out that many more players in the U.S. are, simply put, idiots.
Unfortunately, American culture in general tends to facilitate and even reward idiotic behaviors in many instances.

Er I hype the tournies I go to, am I loud and obnoxious?
So everyone here wants nice and quiet tournaments?
Have any of you complaining about hype been to big tournaments? Have any of you actually met and hung out with these top players you say are being disrespectful?
Basically, do any of you actually know what you are talking about?
You can get hype without stepping on someone elses toes. Competitive hype is nice, but as long as it is respectful and is no way degrading the other player then it’s okay. I am just naturally a hype guy about SNK, and thats because I love what I do. But I dont like the bad side of the hype, the name calling, the stuff that gets out of hand, the super pumped egos etc, no need for all that. Thus I am taking charge at my own SNK major, creating hype around team tournaments, bonus pots etc, but NOT around feuds and egos etc.

I travel to anywhere from 3 ~ 5 majors per year, plus many smaller tournies. I just came back from the AUFO tourney in Austin, TX this past weekend.
This is what I’m talking about. I make noise during tourneys, too, but always to facilitate energy for the crowd.
My previous post was a response to some that seem to try legitimizing excessive taunting or talking down on others.
