hype is great. specially when you go to out of state with your crew and play other crews from other areas and you root for your crew. ya dig?
Anyone who gave you hate is either sexist or perhaps that’s the only chance for them to get anywhere near a real girl.
It was a tournament and you didn’t lose that set, how would you feel if you would have lost to her, especially not because she was better than you but because you threw the match?
Hahaha shut up. That was just me talking shit, AND YOU KNOW IT.
And how can you live with yourself after beating up on a poor girl??? :clapdos:
It’s all good, Natalie is trying to level up and avenge that loss! Better watch out and listen to my Yang advice…
Seeing as people like Daigo who is so concentrated in his game that he seems like a statue, I doubt the japanese scene has trash talking. If any there is probably very little.

I know…I know… My Join date is in April. This makes it better when i reply to this specific subject. Sorry for the long reply but here goes…
I have been to a couple of “big” tournies around my area. The First was back in April in St.Louis, MO. It was a great tournament, but a bit disappointing because there was no HYPE. I’m all about the hype. I drove 4 hours and nobody wanted to MM… that was kinda lame. Hype is cool when there is no direct threat to anyone.
I personally will probably sit down next to my opponent and say " you ready to lose?"(even to Daigo or JWong.) But i’m just doing that in good spirit! Wether i get my ass kicked or not, the match was still exciting. Everytime i pull off a Killer combo i pump my fist and yell out something crazy like “YEAH” or “FUCK YEAH!” Sometimes i won’t yell it out and just silently say it to myself. Everytime i get raped by a nice combo i yell “What The Fuck?NO…NO…NNNNOOOOOOOO!” but i say good job or great combo right after. After all matches wether i win or lose, I always shake hands and say good match!
IMO…HYPE is Amazing. It creates a friendly, competitive atmosphere that we all seek when going to a tournament. Nobody wants to go to a tournament where you just sit and talk to no one. Take some friendly advice from this post. If you decide to go to a tournament with a timid attitude, then i suggest you stay home cuz your not gunna have fun. If you like to mingle, meet gamers alike, and your not afraid of a little HYPE, then get off your lazy ass and go to the tournaments and events section and find a tournament near you!
As much garbage as people talk and as excited people can get during the matches, no matter what happens it should always end in a handshake and a “ggs.”
Your advice is much appreciated fear not my friend.
And I can totally live with myself! Kakashi says I was right to do it! No mercy! The same way you beat me up in the first bracket =( man, how can YOU live with YOURSELF!? :arazz:

It’s just a cultural + manners thing.
I competed in some BJJ events in Manila, Brazil, and Japan. Crowds were fairly quiet, save for Brazil. But they didn’t trash talk IN a match - it was the crowd that was noisy.
After the events, I hop over to an arcade to chill, same scenario.
One time, I’m at NYC, and decide to stay sharp by doing BJJ at Renzo’s gym, and same thing… some American guys trash talked even during practice, other’s didn’t. It’s all good, I know it’s nothing personal. We all had a drink afterwards.
Next day, I pop over to some arcade in NJ to play ST, and same thing: some trash talking while playing. After the game, SOME of the trash-talking players were cool and we exchanged details and had a hotdog at the bar afterwards. OTHER players were downright dicks and just ignored you like you were dirt.
Hype/Trash talking is a cultural thing: if the culture is lenient towards that kind of behavior, it will happen. If the culture frowns upon that behavior (which is how it is in Asia), then it doesn’t happen.
If there is anything I’ve noticed (in general), it’s this:
In Asia, generally, everyone gives respect to each other FIRST. Trash talking is considered disrespectful, and thus, nobody does it. If you do trash talk, consider yourself lucky if you leave the place and people simply are annoyed with you. Don’t be surprised if you walk out of the place and a group of people surround you, asking wtf is up with you.
In most areas of the US, respect is earned. Until then, you’re fair game. So man up, or be picked on ENDLESSLY as the pussy who cries because you didn’t like what you heard.
And if you don’t like it… well… good luck trying to change an entire area’s general culture.
Game all comes down to how you handle it. If you can’t deal with someone talking shit to your face then find another genre to play. Fighting games are about hype. Certain matches like grand finals can have no hype, while Random money matches get people on the edge of their seats.
Where does it all end? All this “Hype is fine long as your not rude” bullshit is frankly silly. Why stop with fighting games, lets go in the boxing world and the MMA world and tell them to not be rude to each other before fights.
Man up and take the shit talking. You don’t like how someone is dissing you in front of a tournament? Then shut him the fuck up and take his money in front of everyone. New players or not, YOU do not get to choose what kind of hype is given at tournies. Whether it becomes normal hype or like so many have said “douchebag” hype. What you DO get to choose however is how you handle the situation.
My two cents.
GIT ER DONE!
what the mother FUCK
trash talk and hype are part of what makes fighting games so fun.
mtfu plz
Oh, come on, bro. Popping out a fatality in Mortal Kombat 2 and leaving the machine before it finished… that was my 5th grade childhood.
14 years later and I’m STILL HYPE.
I’ve lived in Japan for 3 years. One of the things I miss most about America is the abundance of hate and trash talk. Without that fuel, I’ve lost my passion to play fighting games. I need to link up with more Americans in the area to get back my fire.
But I got some Japanese friends who are all about Super Bomberman, Super Mario Kart, and Dr. Mario on SNES. We get HYPE on that.
That’s what me and my American friend had to resort to last week when playing Virtua Striker 3. That, or just yell mad loud. I dunno though… here in Japan, you can drink alcohol & smoke at 95% of the arcades. I think that makes up for the dearth of smack talk… almost. Not even tabaco and booze could come close to the natural hype during the Killer Instinct and Street Fighter II HYPEr Fighting days.
Yeah. And what’s the day with ladies’ chess? I’m not a female, but I feel insulted for them.
