[HvH] Deck Building Thread

You dont need cyclops specifically for chipping, it doesnt actually help usually, since zoning is done at ranged, and specials chip anyway… Depending on the specifics, FFF can actually beat Regen, due to the enormous amount of damage certain teams can put out in xfactor. Cough spencer with Wily+FFF Cough… I have seen a few people running meter drain decks, like with lilith main, devilot sec Kingpin sec… one combo and you are out of meter aka no more xfactor… quite good vs everything but regen decks i imagine(thinking about giving it a spin with all the FFF decks i see)

The assist combo breaker deck i listed earlier does pretty well vs FFF decks, since they rely on being aggressive, but has a hell of a time with regen decks. I was very impressed with a regen deck that replaced one of the cages with Blodia… you cannot zone out a decent player with blodia secondary, and his chars were VERY fast( She-Hulk/Wolvie/Hulk )

I would call the third category “Tactical Decks” Like meter drain, assist spam, cancel normal/specials… they rely on your playing to make them useful, rather than regen or FFF where you play like normal with a huge boost.

That would give the triangle something like this

FFF beats Regen
Regen beats Tactical
Tactical beats FFF

That being said, FFF and Tactical can vary wildly… FFF can go from FFF pri with Miles edgeworth for crazy combos, to Wily pri FFF sec for insane damage to Grandmaster Pri FFF sec for general shenanigans…and Tactical is even worse… from Nick Fury Decks, Mandarin Decks(this one loses to FFF pretty bad on the card abilities) to random stuff.

The problem I have with how you are defining things is that they are literally styles of play,
not solely based on the cards.

This is not a perfect equation: There are people out there beating Regen Cards with nothing but bare bones.
There is no perfect answer, but what we CAN do it show relative advantage.

That being clarified; I am not saying your example is wrong, just that it misses a major point.

Can you chip someone with X-Factor? No.

X-Factor Beats Chip

What is the iconic “X-Factor” card? Fing Fang Foom

Can Regen stop massive Chipping Damage? No.

Chip Beats Regen

What is the iconic “chip” card? Cyclops

Can a X-Factor overpower a Regen? No; not likely if they go defensive.

Regen Beats X-Factor

What is the iconic “Regen” card? Sabertooth

Using those specific guidelines,
I would feel confidant suggesting a Regen tactic against a X-Factor nut.*

The cards listed for each type are not absolute either;
they are just examples to give people ideas as to what effects they are looking for.

Anyways; I shouldn’t get all defensive about this…
Likely just some anxiety left over from the Holiday.

I just wanted to clarify what I meant…

And, let’s not forget that OgreCasteel is the one who thought of the “triangle” concept to begin with!
I’m just trying to advance the metaphor!

*I am NOT saying they will win, just that it would help.

I like Fou x 2 and miles against healers. Sometimes I let my first char build some meter and then die. Now I have four level 2xfactors, and with Dorm that means air combo into level 3 back into a level 1 that kills nemesis…

I’ve got 5 lol. Still no fantastic 4 though -_-

I don’t think megaman cards stack. Also that card is ass since it breaks your combos, most stuff with long hit stun ends up being techable really fast. Kinda unfortunate too since it was so good in theory.

ive been running saberthooth (primary) edward fokker and fff. its fast regains health from the start and after 3bars its x-factor till i die

The problem is when styles interact with the cards it DOES become complicated. FFF can very easily be used to zone/chip a Regen with the right team build… hell just Dorm/Arthur can lock down a big char in xfactor without supers, so if i am running dorm on point for my FFF team, is it a chip team or FFF? That is why i broke it down into how the cards interact with the style. You can have FFF in a deck, but because of the other 2 cards, and your team, it could actually fit into the Tactical style. Like the person above, if you have FFF AND Sabertooth, which category is it? If your card layout and chars = big health/slow defensive gameplay, then its a regen deck. if the 3rd card was Wily or Ryu, and he has rush down chars, then its a FFF deck.

I think it would help if i further defined how i categorize these archetypes.

I classify FFF as an agressive, high damage deck, using the speed and power of Xfactor to mix up, and deal high combo damage.
Examples are:
Wily(pri)Ryu(sec)FFF(sec) with a team like Wesker/Dante/Doom
FFF(pri)Miles Edgeworth(sec)Blodia(sec) X23/Virgil/Deadpool

Regen is stereotyped by defensive gameplay, where the clock is your friend.
Sabretooth(pri)Luke Cage(sec)X2 Nemesis/Hulk/Sentinel (Classic!)
Sabretooth(pri)FFF(sec)Mephisto(sec) Dorm/Chris/Sentinel
Clair Redfield(pri)Thanos(sec)Gene(sec) GhostRider/Nemesis/Wesker

Tactical decks are designed around a gimmick or disrupting the opponents gameplan.
Lilith(pri)Devilot(sec)Daredevil or Serpent if we can find him(sec) Hawkeye/Storm/Morrigan
Hulkbuster(pri)Juggernaught(sec)FantasticFour(sec) Wesker/Iron Fist/Strider
Fou-Lu(pri)Miles Edgeworth(sec)Multiple Man(sec) Phoenix/Doesn’t matter lol (seriously 3 dark phoenix each with xfactor is a major pain in the ass)

now obviously there are decks/teams that are hybrids, or random cards, or just suck so bad that you cant classify them, but i could fit most deck/teams into those categories if some thought was put into the making of them. And with a few crazy exceptions, having right deck/team is not a hard counter, but merely gives you the advantage. all of the decks listed i have either played myself or played against. (i got seriously rolled by the FFF/Miles/Blodia deck)

Now THIS I agree with!

Thanks for clarifying!
^.^~!

I’ve been running the same deck as Vidness just mentioned: Fou Lu x2 (1st and 2nd), and Miles in 3rd.

This gives you 4 X-factor activations, and 2 meters every time you activate. And unlike FFF, you have access to your hypers. So you have more than enough to 1-touch-kill all 3 of your opponent’s characters, even if they have vitality / regen.

IMO, Fou Lu x2 deck is better than any FFF deck. I often end up not even needing all 4 XF activations. 2 - 3 usually does the job.

My favorite tactic is to wait til they call an assist, XF -> THC (with Dorm / Storm / Strange as my team)

This is a great solution to my wanting to use Strider ouroburos multiple times problem but hating FFF non super crap thanks so much.

My main Deck has been Daken/Mephisto/Watcher has been working great for my team and allows me to keep you out the whole game and only get anywhere close when I have you in a combo and I almost never lose even half my life because how hard it is to catch my characters with as much meter as this team builds plus the cards effects.

I’m not sure if Sabretooth would be better because while Daken doesn’t recover as much as Tooth he helps stop bs recovery teams and watcher gives huge boost in health anyway. SO far I have been sticking with Daken until I see or hear a real reason to change when having so much success.

Reason4U what chars do you run with that deck?

Deadpool Task Doom usually because I can rip apart Sabretooth big guy teams like Nemmy/Hulk/Hagger/Sent with it. But I can also use it for faster characters if I so chose.

I was looking for some good idea for more aggressive teams and I found some good ideas here.

I dreamed up a gimmick deck for Akuma assist (or other decent get-off-me assist) abuse:

Devilot* (3 points of super armour for assists)
Silver Surfer (LV1 HC Gauge regen, LV2 Assist red health regen)
Fantastic Four (Call assists while taking damage for meter)

I have yet to test the deck’s effectiveness, but I’m putting the thought out there anyway.

That with Doom missles would be so frustrating to play against.

Striders Varja is the nastiest of the interupt assists… combine it with assist stuns or assist poisons for some cheesy goodness…

New current laugh track is Wolvie/Arthur/Sentinel with Sabretooth/Blodia/X… If you havent seen it, you need to watch arthur air-dash with increased speed… its a freak’n riot. You get regen/ increased speed/ increased dash speed/ super armor while dashing/ extra jump/ air dash if you didnt have it… woooo boy.

Already tested. You can’t do more than one move because of her nerf, but the normal way to get around that is to choose to fly as your one move. Then during fly you can do aerial moves until your fly runs out (which ends up being about 3 heavy fireballs anyways).

Well… if Nina is your main, you get 3 moves in the air AND increased flight time. Now, you still can’t flat out do four fireballs (lol), however if you FLY… you can do many flying homing fireballs and then a teleport or d+H for good measure.

So call meter assist or something, SJ, fly, do an assload of fireballs, d+H/teleport, done!

Here’s what having a main Nina can let you do after one flight:

  • 9 light air fireballs
  • 7 medium/heavy fireballs
  • substitute any of those for a teleport
  • after doing all of that, you can still do normals on your way down from flight, so you can d+H to speed up her descent

If X-Factored (lol): (numbers are for L/M/H)

  • Level 1: you can do one more light fireball (or teleport) than without XF (10/7/7)
  • Level 2: you can do one more heavy fireball, two more medium fireballs or two more light fireballs (or a teleport) than without XF (12/9/8)
  • Level 3: no change from level 2

Sooo yeah. Picture taking 8 heavy fireballs to the face x2 thanks to Dark Phoenix…

Is there a list anywhere that shows were to obtain all the cards? There are a few low level ones I’ve never seen. Godot, Anakaris, Maestro, Nina, Beast. Any hints on where to get these?

Godot was one of the first ones I got, so it must have been offline on the hero side.

I get Anakaris all the time, on the Herald side around the middle. Nina pops up there as well.

Maestro was my last holdout, he also popped up in the middle portion of Heralds.

I seem to only have one Beast… I think I got him online.

Sitting at 98% with a lot of other people…Guess I’ll have to be on a winning side the next few weeks…

I think the Shoryuken community should pool our experiences to create a card list!

Should this be on a different thread though…?

I’m trying to come up with the best possible Multiple Man deck for every character in the game. I really like playing characters solo so I can learn them. While the decks obviously change some things, general skill and knowledge with the H&H character carry over. It’s especially nice for learning an anchor characters.

Some of my decks:

Sentinel:
Fou-lu (Main)
Multiple Man
Megaman X

Megaman X lets Sentinel apply really strong pressure and perform quick cross-up j.S during flight. Fou-lu gives him 3 X-Factors so that any Hyper Sentinel Force or Hard Drive catch is a dead character. I also thought about Ultron for faster flight movement or one of the special-cancel moves to let Sentinel Force -> Flight happen, but I don’t think either of these would be quite as helpful as the two cards I picked out.

Dr. Strange:
Lilith (Main)
Multiple Man
Kingpin

Lilith + Kingpin lets Dr. Strange take 80-90% of an opponent’s bar with every Spell of Vishanti, allowing him to always have the threat available. This is also a good counter to Fin Fang Foom decks. Spell of Vishanti hits for about 450K with this setup. Assists will take about 800K, and you will steal 3-4 bars if you happen to hit an assist and a point character together.

Dante:
Mephisto (Main)
Multiple Man
Serpent/Daredevil

Dante is already one of the safest characters in the game, but the ability to cancel specials into each other gives him really nice solo setups, including aerial cross-ups. Havoc Missiles into Air Trick now works anywhere. The consistent meter gain allows for an endless offense as well as the ability to retain meter gain during Devil Trigger, which gives Dante an invincible approach option from which he can cancel into Hammer.

Firebrand:
Ultron (Main)
Multiple Man
Fin Fang Foom

Pretty much nothing in this game beats a super armored Bon Voyage. You’re not going to get much use out of Firebrand’s level 3 thanks to Ultron burning up meter, and X-Factor provides about the same bonuses as Luminous Body. So, you’re basically trading Dark Fire for permanent X-Factor, and I think it’s a good trade. Firebrand needs to go for a reset after Dark Fire anyway since his damage is so low. Sometimes you’ll only start the match with 2 bars and will have to work up to 3 for the X-Factor, but it’s generally not a problem since your offense is nigh unstoppable.

Super-Skrull:
Fin Fang Foom (Main)
Multiple Man
Ryu

Meteor Smash is -21 on block. Elastic Slam has 21 frames of startup. See what’s coming? Smash all over the screen with infinite X-Factors thanks to FFF, XFC the recovery, and tick throw your opponent. It’s pretty much unstoppable once the Meteor Smash is blocked. If Meteor Smash hits, XFC it anyway into a launcher, and get a full combo on your opponent for huge damage. Skrull has infinites in X-Factor, so you don’t really have need for Inferno - especially since he no longer has the best line in the game during it. Ryu provides a huge damage boost to make downing your opponent even easier.

Dormammu
Mephisto (Main)
Multiple Man
Kingpin

I’m not confident that this is Dormammu’s best combination. Basically, Mephisto provides excess meter, and Kingpin boosts the damage on semi-random Chaotic Flames and Stalking Flares. Dormammu can link Chaotic Flames via Purification on any assist he touches, so that option is pretty much locked off. I’ve also considered a Godot setup for him for countering FFF decks, but that would mean having to burn 2-4 bars of meter at the start of every match to get down to 0 meter, and that might be difficult against some of the more aggressive teams.

Omg you should see Sent with hayato (main) or silver Sam not main…being able to go from crouching m to standing h seems huge…works nicely with Ghostrider with standing h into crouching h…
