HULK STRONGEST THERE IS! - A guide on how to succeed with Hulk

There are characters and setups that the strategy isn’t great for, but I don’t understand how you are losing to She-Hulk’s slide. I noticed you said 5H, but we’re actually talking about 6H. You have to hold forward so that it’s an option select grab. Even if you didn’t do that though, I still don’t see how you’re losing to slide unless you’re doing something strange. Slide is a 13 frame attack and Hulk get’s armor after 6 frames so the only explanation I can offer is you’re not mashing :f::h: fast enough.

^That’s a good point, actually, and thanks for clarifying that I need to be mashing the option select. If memory serves I definitely wasn’t up in her face or mashing, so combine that with a little online delay and poor timing and bingo.

If you were playing online, you definitely have to be mashing otherwise you’re risking getting screwed by the lag.

I’ve since tried this just a few times online (haven’t been spending too much time there) and it’s met with pretty respectable results. Typically either returning to neutral position or getting a free combo when they mash throw too hard. Good stuff.

Yeah, I’ve know some local people that complain about that opener saying that there’s no beating it with their characters. I usually describe it as a “Hulk tax”. Eat the ground throw or get punished with a combo is how it works out a lot of times.

If Hulk could combo from his ground throw, he’d be too strong. I thought it was very smart of them to make him lack that.

Definitely, I think he’d be a little too good even if the only follow-up was Gamma Tsunami. I personally still like his ground throw though. It does decent damage and it guarantees a potentially lethal mix-up.

You guys think we should try and work on specific anti-character info? I was thinking of looking through the Hulk Vs. thread and getting all the character specific details together and posting them here.

Yeah, Hulk would definitely be too good if he could combo off a ground throw. Everyone option-selects into those constantly. I wonder if there might be some way with Hidden Missiles, though…nah, too hard to time.

Anyway, I’m enjoying my strategy of Kara-ing standing H into Gamma Tornado M. It seems to be working really well on incoming characters. Ever since I ranked up to 4th Lord on PSN I’ve actually had a lot more success with my Hulk team rather than my main team (Dante/Taskmaster/Sentinel). I think people just don’t expect a lot of things you can do once you’ve put a bit more work in with Hulk. I’ve got Wesker (OTG followups to air throw and Gamma Tornado) and Magneto on my team (Gamma Wave plus Disruptor wins most zoning wars, Disruptor keeps Hulk’s normals safe) on my team to make sure Hulk has the right tools on his side.

For a frame trap I’ve noticed that a Gamma Crush after a blocked gamma charge and L follow-up works absolute wonders. I’ll usually try it once a match and it seems to connect about 75% of the time because people will be mashing for a punish. If they do nothing and block I’ll just DHC into something safe.

edit: fixed my post

I don’t get what you mean, how would you throw out gamma crush’s in a row? after the first one hulk is in the air for a little bit and most characters can just dash in and punish before you have a chance to attack.

He meant to say blocked Gamma Charge. It is a decent frame trap, especially if you have good reaction times. It doesn’t work on smaller characters though.

Ah that makes sense then. Now to add on the whole Gamma crush missing on small characters, It also misses on some characters that use a low attack when you throw out gamma crush.

Yeah my bad, meant gamma charge and yeah it doesn’t work on smaller characters. Like I said though its really effective against most of the cast.
