That’s another issue. One I know all too well. Not everbody has the good fortune to live in an urban location. I know tons of hick towns around my area where you don’t see minorities, still. I remember taking my vietnamese girlfriend to one of these schools, and literally every dude was following her around, just amazed at seeing an asian up close. So for a lot of people, the only exposure to black culture they get is TV, movies, and music. So when the word becomes so prevalent in those mediums, it’s hard to tell somebody ‘no you can’t say that’ when that’s literally all they know.

Dude’s words created controversy inside and outside the company he worked for, controversy that can’t be disputed because it was recorded and shared for the world to see/hear. Freedom of speech is cool and all, but people who use it as an excuse seem to forget that anyone who doesn’t like what they say and complains about it can use the same excuse too. Hulk Hogan and others could be right about the N-Word, but it’s a rubber-band effect that comes from a long history of racial discrimination. Those people don’t decide when it goes away or when other people should “get over it!”, because that still takes time, patience, and a mutual understanding/respect from everyone to make that happen. A complex issue of history, anger, inequality and resentment that isn’t going away anytime soon. An issue that Hulk Hogan doesn’t a complete comprehension of, and stepped-in it in one of the worst ways possible.
