Yeah I have my DC buttons set like that too cause its a lot easier except that I have lp set on the right trigger and lk on the left but yeah try to use more light palm bombers they come out a lot quicker and try poking low some more from a far distance.
Hey aku, perhaps you should try using lp 360’s more, gives some more range…
Is that so? I used to never use anything other than HP, because of the damage. But I’ll keep that in mind and practice some more with it.
owned by a sa3 alex
he kept retreating and charging his meter
wait till he gained the meter for sa3, he would do the 46p XX sa3,
i was told to do a mp after he reached the apex, but it only worked once in a while…
so, can anyone tell me wat exactly should i do once he activated the sa3???
It depends on what strength SA3 the opponent pulls out, after the dashing elbow they might use MP, in which case you can dash under, if they use WP SA3 jam on the WP.
Short backbreaker will stop any use of Stungun unless you were already attacking when Alex activated. Even if you’re hit with the elbow slash -> Stungun “trap,” short backbreaker will grab Alex, regardless of which strength he used to try and “trick” you.
I’ve tried to do this in the past and I often got grabbed off the air.
I admit I was a little hasty in my first post, but not by much. 90% of the time, any Alex player trying to use this trap against Hugo is going to use strong Stungun, knowing that Hugo can’t use the standard dash forward escape. Grabbing strong Stungun is easy with short backbreaker. If he actually does use jab Stungun, a reversal short backbreaker will still grab him, though that does require tighter timing.
Now, that’s assuming you block the slash elbow. If you actually get hit, and he uses jab Stungun, even a reversal short backbreaker is not fast enough. Thankfully, that’s a pretty unlikely scenario.
In all cases, short Megaton gives you an extra frame or two of leeway on all grabs, so you can use that if you’re really concerned about some sort of worst-case jab Stungun trick scenario.
So, if Alex is using slash elbow into strong Stungun, a little practice should be all it takes to get the short backbreaker every time. If he’s actually using jab, he’s taking a gamble (by knowing how short backbreaker works -and- assuming you don’t), since just continuing to hold back will escape. If he’s using jab consistently, well, I just answered how to get out of that. =)
Finally, if you have the meter (especially if you’re not using Megaton), EX lariat will dodge the strong Stungun and hit the jab one, with an extra frame (maybe 2?) of leeway compared to short backbreaker. Standing jab will also work (as stated by Ssongro), though I feel the timing to stop the more-common strong Stungun to be harder than the backbreaker. Your mileage may vary. Try all these options until you find one you can do consistently.
In Boogie Nights, Dirk Diggler and his friend Rothchild tried to record that hit song of theirs. It was ‘The Touch’, by Stan Bush, from Transformers the Movie. It’s definitely in in-joke for anyone who remembers, but even if you don’t know the song, it’s the perfect song to illustrate how pathetic Diggler had become.
YOU"VE GOT THE TOUCH…(guitar)…YOU’VE GOT THE POWER!!!
Awesome.
hi,
i have a question on matchups against remy and urien, my friends have kinda found a weakpoint in my game by turtling waiting for me to come at them and shooting fireballs at me, all i know i can do is walk up to them and parry everything, but switching between ex and normal it’s pretty hard.
his dash is so slow.
could someone help me with some tips on this.
(actually every fireball shooting char would be my problem)
his sounds like a pretty dumb question when writing it down but i’ve looked all over this and a few other boards and i can’t find any answers to it. it’s just that losing from turling fireballthrowers feels kinda stupid…
tnx for the help
Yeah, I know what you mean. Ever since my friends at school got familiar with my Hugo, they switched to turtling against me, making me keep my distance with projectiles. I usually switch between parrying and just jumping over the fireballs. If I’m close enough, I’ll usually use jumping HK against them, since it has the best range and comes out quicker than HP(that I can remember…if I’m wrong, then somebody correct me).
To show off, you can try to clap their fireballs away.
If you’re like, at a full-screen distance away, then just dash back and taunt taunt taunt(for double the defense). If they’re scrubby turtlers, then bring out Poison for distraction.
When you’re near close enough, use MP or crouching MP or MK to poke them(his MP and d+MK have really good range). d+MK will knock them down to the ground, so you can dash close to them.
In situations like the guys you mentioned, I use Hammer Mountain. Gigas Breaker won’t work too well in a distance game(unless you can do Tachi Gigas), and you’ll rarely ever have a chance to use Megaton Press(Ultra Throw would be good if Hugo didn’t have Gigas or Moonsault Press).
Oh yeah, and Hammer Mountain can go through projectiles.
Hugo is a shitty char. Anyone who plays hugo competitively or at high level should understand that by now.A low tier character beating a high tier character is possible. The first thing to understanding hugo match ups is hugo’s weaknesses. When you realize his limitations you kinda understand what will and wont work for you.
Since Hugo is in the bottom tier. There are alot of match ups which he will normally lose to. Best thing one can do, is just play and learn the match ups. A key to point to winning with him is experience. Knowing what to do and when to do it.
As with turtling, cant really do much about that. I know one of hugo’s strength is conertrapping. Use mix ups like clap -> 360+wk. -> late low fwd, -> walk up 360 or 720, etc. Or when they are on their wake up go well out of throw range but stay in your 360+jab grab range. When your opponent has been grabbed by that many times and starts to get jumpy, pull them down with the backbreaker on their wake up. If you play your cards right, you can pressure opponents to forcing errors.
SA3 is more tourney friendly than SA1. My first style of playing hugo was turtle. Hugo has lots of life and stun and can deal huge amounts of damage with so little time.
There are two matches that are almost impossible for hugo to win. Chun li and akuma.
Hopefully more competitive hugo players come out of the wood works. I have footage of me sending frankie3s to losers in a big FF tourney. When i find a site to host it i will put it up.
I use jab 360 for range purposes. On whiff super, shoryuken, or parried attack i MIGHT use hp. But i am starting to use wall throw to backbreak for meter (this build 65-70 percent meter for sa3 ) and spacing purposes.
One thing the japanese told me i needed to do better was my combo or move selection. Apparently i always did the stuff that was most damaging. I didnt think of other options i can do to benefit me more in the long run.
For example: if i am in the corner and i block ken’s sa3. I do low jabX2 -> SA3. Kokujin was saying thats nice and all but i could have threw ken in the corner for corner pressuring. Most ken can do is get hit with pressure tactics then ex hurricane out of there or wake up sa3 again. Which he wastes more meter.
A couple of things i am working on is more corner pressure tactics, combo selection, and blocking.
I said this in another thread. Blocking >>> Parrying. In FF and japan missing a parry is major pain.
tnx acu and 720 for the replies,
i’m choosing for the parry and jump over tactic right now, when people see hugo parrying the fireballs they stop pretty quickly noticing it’s only helping him to build up meter, so i can go back to my pressure tactics
i never knew hugo was so low tier, I’m having a lot of succes with him vs most characters (chun li’s still very irritating, yes).
what i really wanted to say is:
720, if you want, i could host your footage for a while on my webspace at school, i’ve got some space to spare now my website is off-line.
pm me your info. If you have AIM that would make it easier for me. I will give u me and frank and me and arlieth.
I am interested in seeing these videos myself since I play Hugo too. My friend and I own Scrubtactics101.com so hosting them would be no problem. I would PM you, but your box is full. Maybe you could PM me with an AIM name or something?
Pm box cleared. Send me your aim.
vids!!!go!!!

True, Hugo cannot do anything against Urien (mix up fire balls, st fierce, crushes xx Aegis).
