Hugo general Thread

any trade you make is in hugos favor, stand fierce eats stand mk, hk, mp, and hp. there are ranges where you can jump at sim and he needs to be scared of body splash beating his far stand hk. If dhalsim is EVER in the air and you have meter, you can just ex lariat, the worst thing that can happen is he teleports behind you and hits you with a sniper in which he is too high to combo off of, you are still in his face and he has to guess for major chunks of his health and when you get close you dont need to be scared of any kind of reversal aside from super so you are free to fierce clap os exbackbreaker/U2 and he is almost always forced to take the mix up after fierce clap.

How do you guys practice OS? is it even possible?
I mean how do you make sure that the move you OS won’t go out on block (if you whiffed it) or if it didn’t it would on whiff?
I mean, if I just do it far away form the dummy I might get used to a timing that the OS move will come out even on block and vise verse (is the the right phrase?lol) if i try it on blocking dummy.

set up the dummy as the character you are trying to practice the OS with, use the record function and create the situation in which you are trying to OS, the OS shouldnt come out on the initial recording, use the playback function and use the option which you are practicing the OS against. if the initial recording was done correctly, the OS should beat the option you just used.

Yeah, but that mean I succeeded it once. I want to practice it repeatedly (Otherwise it’s record, check, record, check etc)

well if you find another way feel free to let me know

I will find it, here.
Some kind heart champ here will share the secret way for doing it.

Is that not pretty easy already?

The move hits meaty, os doesn’t come out because of hit stop. If your meaty move whiffs, then os comes out…

Still need to practice the timing of the OS move

Start with Clap OS. Claps have tons of hitstop and very quick recovery, so just input the move right after his hands come together and you’re probably golden. If anything, you’re more likely to have inputted it too early and not get the OS than too late and getting it on block, which is good because it means worst case scenario you miss out on some free damage.
If you’re in a match and you don’t feel comfortable with the timing, you can just try mashing c.MK, since it can OS to catch most back dashes, is a 2f frame trap after blocked Clap, and combos after Clap on hit for hard knockdown.

In general, just time the OS input at right when you should hit them.

And yeah the easiest solo way to practice OS is to record-check-repeat, but Hugo’s main OS’s aren’t very input intensive, so they don’t really require a ton of practice to get down.
If you have a friend with time, though, you can use Online Practice and ask them to just mix it up between being hit, blocking, and backdashing.

Honestly, the hardest part about OS’s is to time your followup input in the event that the move you’re OSing from actually hits when you want max damage.
HP Clap (OS U2) MP Clap is something I still have some trouble timing to combo on hit, which is why I usually go c.MK or s.LK xx LP Clap / Lariat for now.

For some reason I also have trouble on timing the mp Clap after SPD knockdown to get the safe whiff (people like to react to claps with reversals, can’t blame them though)
Is there any difference with the SPD buttons?
MaybeI should just settle for lp Clap for the time being.

MP has least number of frames, so stick to that one. Just try to do it a bit earlier, it can be a bit tight of a timing.

Edit: You can try timing it for RIGHT after Hugo finishes his jiggle after landing.

Hugo’s OS EX BB is GDLK yo, i almost got a comeback from no health, OS’ing this T.Hawk back to back cuz he would EX condor spire on wake up and EX BB would beat him, only reason i didn’t get my most gdlk comeback with Hugo is cuz i dropped my Ultra -_-, i have Justin hands, i always drop my Ultra.

I swear ima spend like each day just practicing to Ultra.

The only Clap OS i been having trouble with is after BB, wiffing st MP vs shotos, i feel like u have to do that timing prefectly or u will get hit by their dp

i was just playing against some annoying vega that taunts and backflips all day and i can’t do shit aboot it. capcom pls.

other than being easily cheesed out by some of the cast. hugo is extremely fun to play as and can be especially dangerous at close ranges.

God people need to learn patience. Hugo will take a long time to master due to his very slow nature,I honestly think he is a very strong character who is only viable with top players, none of that middle of the road easy mode crap. Low level and intermediate players will make him look bad as you can’t get flustered at all and must be on point at all times. I feel he is a high level or bust kind of character, as for tier rankings I put him in the upper top half of the cast it’s just gonna take a player with the patience of a potatoe to show it. Which could take years since most will look for quick and easy vs methodical yet dominant.

I have been playing Hugo a while now and I lose to Derpy players. All they have to do is mash DP or their wake up moves anytime I try to do a frame trap after a knockdown. So far the mix ups I have tried only work on smart people that block and think. (but I guess it is smart to mash DP lol) It is frustrating cause when I pick my main I can easily beat the Derp.

I’m getting better though. But 1 thing I notice about my gameplay is I don’t use meat squasher in matches cause I usually get hit out of it by people mashing jab.

Lastly one weird thing that happened today, Guile knocked me out of my EX lariat with his forward strong over head punch. wtf

Frame trap? You tryna blow up crouch tech? As Hugo?

If you know they mash dp on wake up, do the MP clap so it wiffs and then punish their ass, wrks really well versus ppl who mash dp, thats 1 of the reasons i love Hugo is that u can punish ppl who mash on wake up, bait them and punish them hard with 40%+ dmg

You’re being a little too optimistic lol

honestly dp mashers can be punished hard with clapcombo 3-4 Times Clap + LK–> Lariat;Specialy the counterhit realy hurts them hart since then its 4 times clap…^^ i realy love hugo he is Great as 2. Teampartner vor my Hakan i guess they complement each other pretty well and i need to learn patience and hugo is great to learn to be pacient. On the other hand who whants a Jack of all Trades Grabbler will have a bad time with him… He is no wonderpony of death against the whole cast but if you learn more then one charakter he can shine bright!!

wonder pony of death is my new favorite thing
