The only possible case I see CvS3 being successfulis if SNKP pushes for a console release of KOFXIII establishes themselves as a rival of Capcom again in order to obtain some free publicity. The rest is correct advertising and enticing a crowd to actually pick up the game with carefully put together words. As well as good online play so they don’t discourage anyone who has the game to continue playing it any further and telling they’re friends to hold off on purchasing the game
Dear God, please no…
First off, dear fucking God, please fucking no!
Second, source, please?
You gotta think more like Capcom, man: SNK’s on the skids, we don’t like designing new characters with any great frequency, so let’s throw them a financial bone, license their stuff and they get an automatic shoutout cuz of our game.
It has nothing to with rivalry, it’s all about money. Doubt SNK would let the deal go down like CVS1/2 where Capcom made the profits quite as much, but if SNK’s really feeling financial pressure, who knows?
That’s much easier said then done. They haven’t been a legitimate rival for Capcom in at least 10 years. What could they possibly bring to the table that would change that fact?
Thing is, SNK built their entire empire on arcade hardware and software. Capcom did that as well early on, but they balanced themselves out by building a very reliable consumer base on consoles with games like Megaman, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis etc and eventually games like Devil May Cry, Onimusha, Viewtiful Joe, Dead Rising, Monster Hunter etc…
Now that the Arcade dominance era is over and smoke has cleared, all remains is a bunch of loose Fighting Games, Beat em Ups, SHMUPS, Shooters, Platformers, Sports, and Puzzle games. Most of these types of games are very niche in this day and age and are best suited for digital distribution. A market that is getting more and more crowded everyday. Doesn’t seem like the type of games that will bring them back up to Capcom’s level.
I think the ideal route would be to take the SF4/MK9 route and start over from the beginning. Build a new audience while keeping the old.
Unfortunately for us, It seems like the top brass at SNKP no longer have passion for the games of SNK. As a result, we see “good” business decisions such as rereleasing the SAME freaking games over and over again until even the die hard fans are sick of seeing em. Instead of games like Last Blade 2, Art of Fighting 3, Real Bout 2, Sengoku 3 etc…we get first gen NEOGEO games like KoF94, Metal Slug, Samurai Showdown, Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury for the gazillionth time.
It’s like SNK is stuck in a time loop.
/RANT
I believe I hinted at that in our post. If they establish themselves as a rival of capcom, maybe more people might look into and eventually buy the game. But that is only if SNK wants to put that kind of money in their advertising. One simple commercial just won’t cut it.
Rivalry is always free publicity. Look at what Avgn Vs Nostalgia Critic did for NC? He’s bigger than he ever was and obtains funds to create many different movies and obtain better quality cameras.
It’s not going to be a new crossover game.
SNK has never been relevant in America. Ever. That’s not to say the games aren’t good but ask 10 people if they know what KoF is. CvS3 will sell. Not because of SNK, because A) It’s Capcom and B) Fighters are on the rise, and people that play fighters buy fighters.
But seriously. If its not CvS3 or DS4 (which I don’t even care that much about.) I honestly hope it’s a new smash, just to play with my friends. 10 stock FFA you lose a life you take a drink. Good times.
EDIT: Just saw your post zero. If SNK were smart they would console KoFXIII and go to work at CvS3, then by time it’s out and on the market. Get KoFXIII on dat greatest hits $20. People who pick up CvS3 will learn of KoF and notice it’s only 20 bucks. Shit I’d get both.
Well you bring up an interesting point. It seems as though SNKP is holding themselves back rather than the consumer base to be honest.
That’s not true at all. SNK was huge in the 90s. Yes even in America. Particularly in the early 90s when arcades were still a big market.
I agree with this. A new Capcom vs SNK would be a great start to getting SNK back in the public eye and to create more brand awareness for them. Although, I don’t think Capcom would allow such a deal just yet. Over saturation and all that. SNK is on their own for at least the next couple of years.
most of you guys are setting yourselves up for a huge ass disappointment
It is, but his point kind of stands - at least here in Brazil - since the most popular games around are '98 and 2k2 - mostly '98.
come on bloody roar or killer instinct
maybe primal rage?
any of thows would make a hell of a game comback
CVS3!!?? you got be F!@#$%^&*()_
My money’s on either a new Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, Street Fighter EX maybe, Marvel only fighter stands up for a chance, Smash, Final Fight, SvC2, Rival School, or, CYBER BOTS!
Super Smash Brothers Item-less Final Destination Edition.
Seriously though, as much as my heart wants it to be something like a new Darkstalkers or CvS, my mind is telling me that it’s a new Smash.
Same…I’m trying not to get my hopes up…but it’s…it’s just not working.
I WANT TO BELIEVE DAMMIT!
Cue X-Files leitmotif.
Smash Bros with a ranking ladder and standardized online rulesets? I’d buy it.
Ono would piss you guys off.
“Why can I L-Cancel 20 Feet From the ground?”
“Why is Wavedashing a button now?”
“Why do I get final smashed for taking out 3 of HIS stocks?”
1 & 2: I’ve never been a fan of overly obtuse mechanics, making them a more streamlined part of play wouldn’t bother me a bit. And 3 already happens in Brawl.
Capcom x Nintendo on the TvC engine, minus mega-crash.
Samus screw attack infinites please.
