HRAP2 Modding Guide/Review

Looks awesome, but I’m starting to dislike Seimitsu buttons. The feedback changes drastically (not for the better) as they wear.

Really? How much time/use are we talking about? And which buttons? Because as far as I can tell, Seimitsu’s GX series use the exact same microswitch you’ll find in Sanwa’s high end RG’s and both buttons are specifically designed to take more abuse than usual.

shit, and I’m thinking of going this route as well however, when I realized that the HRAP SE had all seimitsu parts I figured, why even bother when it’s set and ready?. Now the deal with the PS-14-GX, the y look kick ass, look like HAPP competition (correct me if I’m wrong) and probably perform or most likely outperform the lifespan of competition (who knows?) and very comparable to sanwa’s. Really, and as always, I guess it all comes down to a matter of preference for each individual. Me, like all of us here whom grew up playing SF are well adjusted to american (HAPP from my understanding) but throughout the years, more and more cabs had a different feeling to it IMO ( I remember when I would rotate the stick clockwise 360 degrees before tournys back in the day to check if it felt diffrent form other places I played at; my way of checking back then) Seriously though, either way you look at it, It’s preference. Look at byrdo, finkle, TRNG and others, majority is Always sanwa/seimitsu the Q is What kinds do they prefer. Just a thought.

Glad to see all the cool mod pictures! I’m jealous now, I wish I had grabbed some different color Select/Start buttons now but I’m stuck with default yellow =P

Keep 'em coming.

wierd question, but does anyone else NOT use the shaft-cover on their stick? I personally dislike it… maybe it’s just me :looney:

I need 2 more pink buttons and I have a full pink stick:P

Maybe I’ll get some black buttons too and combine them to get the seimitsu look:P

Hey! I’m new to modding scene, and I need some help/advise on modding my HRAP2.

1.)I plan on modding my stick with a Seimitsu LS-32/LS-32-01/LS-32-02, but I don’t know which model to buy and what the difference is between them.
2.) I also wanted to buy a Sanwa OBSF-30/RG, but I don’t know which model to buy and what the difference is between them.
3.) Depending on the model of the joystick/buttons I buy, will it make the modding process easier/harder?
4.) Should I buy snap-in buttons or push-in buttons?

Thanks!

You’re looking for a seimitsu ls-32-01 or ls-32-02. the ls-32 will also work, but since it doesn’t come with the 5-pin connection, you’ll need to do soldering. The RG version of the buttons come with higher quality switches, which will most likely last longer. They might not be worth it, but if you tend to force your button presses, they could be a good idea. The only stick you could buy that would make it more difficult would be the LS-32, either a sanwa JLF, LS-32-01, or LS-32-02 only require a screwdriver to install. For the buttons, go for the snap-ins, the screw-in type buttons generally cost more and will be a little tricky to install if you have normal to large size hands.

I have a question about the seimitsu stick. I noticed recently that they have leafswitches in them. How well do those work, and how well are they maintainable in a LS-32-02?

here is mine:

now i need new start/select buttons.

where exactly in japan can i get joystick parts?

im in tokyo right now, and visited akihabara today, found a big electronics department store that sold stuff like hraps, but the people who worked there didnt know where to send me for parts.

anyone know?

Most of the bigger stores that do electrical components carry sanwa sticks and buttons in diferent colors/sizes, but the bigger arcade PCB shops like Try, G-Front, and especially MAK, will have a better selection of different colors and models.

The cheapest for standard sanwa parts I found was an electronic hobbiest store that I don’t know the name of. On that map, walk ‘up’ (I think it’s west, but not sure) from Super Potato, and it’ll be on your left after the store that sells Laserdisk equipment with the big ass speakers in front. They had sanwa sticks for like 1500-1700Y, and buttons for like 160Y.

For the HRAP2, the US Tekken 5 10th anniversary stick outer parts (plastic shell and metal top) are exactly the same. I’ve exchanged the white shell of the HRAP for the black of the Tekken 5 stick as well as putting in seimitsu red with black outline buttons. I’ll throw up pics when I get the chance hopefully later tonight.

While I’m on the topic, I’ve gutted my Tekken 5 stick, but want to use the PCB with wires so i don’t have to sodder directly onto the pcb with the button switches. Anyone know what gauge wire to use? I haven’t drilled the holes yet… just default size after you take off all the sodder and remove Hori buttons from it.

Wire size on the buttons doesnt matter; I’ve used 30 guage on sticks before, but its so small it can be a pain to strip or crimp. Most people use 26 or 24 guage stranded wire. I really wouldnt get anything bigger than 22 guage or it starts to get to big to route without putting strain on your connections.

cool, thanks, i actually found that hobby store.

this mod should work for hrap1 stick ?? which model of semistu stick should I get ?? I REALLLY wanna try semistu sticks as I hear its more “americanish” than sanwa. I doing ok with sanwa but its soooooooo loose sometimes I am having trouble doing motion supers :looney:

does anyone know is it still possible to get hrap 2 somewhere (i live in UK, but i can handle shipping cost from everywhere :p)

Hey, sorry to bump an old thread, but i was just reading through, and the various minor problems people have had with Sanwa screw-in’s has got me rethinking what i should buy. Can a few ppl post their opinions?

I’ll be modding a HRAP 1 (non-mirror top). Is it definitely possible to fit Sanwa screw ins inside? Is there extra tightness over a snap in that makes any difficulty inserting them worth it?

Thanks in advance!

just use snap ins. lot easier to get in, and no need to worry about nuts touching.

Restrictor plate

I recently modded my HRAP2 and after reading these forums noticed many people recommended getting an octagonal restrictor plate since the square makes circular motions a little more difficult at times. I popped out the square restrictor plate just for the heck of it and noticed, in my opinion, that the stick felt great with no restrictor at all. Circular motions were really smooth and overall it just felt very nice.

Of course you would have to find another way to hold the microswitches and what not in place, but has anyone actually tried playing with the HRAP2 with no restrictor plate?
