Pretty much this. Communities are responsible for keeping their games alive. If people who dig 3s would get their heads out of SF4 because, “Oh, that’s where the competition is grumble grumble” and start trying to organize shit, maybe the game would get more love. Tired of hearing people who hate SF4 talk like it’s the only fighting game that exists anymore. >_<
HD Remix had the potential to be more successful if released in the arcades particularly Japan. 3rd strike being re-released will most likely do no better than HD remix/Marvel.
The community seems to be pretty dead with the exception of Japan. Than again I’m sure there are other fighting games that still thrive there that no longer are played competitively anywhere else.
To be honest I think 3rd strike is standing on it’s last legs and unless something drastic happens it will eventually die out. If sf4 damaged sf3 community that much imagine what sf5 will do if does just as well?
the thing is no one respects hd remix.
an arcade release would have done nothing cuz the people who continue to play St wouldnt start playing some ugly ass remix version.
“Communities are responsible for keeping their games alive.”
Didnt daigo say he thought hd remix if released would do well in japan? I didnt see the interview though so I’m not 100% sure. I know he isnt the be all and end all of the Japanese arcade scene but if he played hd remix in the arcades competitively there would be pros/scrubs that would follow suit. He is pretty influential some pros only got into sf4 because of him.
The community is dying because scrubs wont go near 3rd strike, the scrubs keep the games alive not pros.
If 3s is going to have any sort of revitalization the guys who love it have to start doing what the SF4 crowd is doing for that game. Hold regular tournaments and stream them in high quality with fun commentary and trash talk. For every dumbass that complains about parrying there will be a handful if not more people interested enough to play the game. People have to be able to see others enjoying the hell out of a game to be motivated to play.
While SF4 doesn’t appeal to me at all, the way it is promoted by the fans really does a lot for it.
3rd strike tournaments needs big name japanese players to attract the fans. Sorry the americans don’t hold a candle to the japanese in 3rd strike and no one wants to watch lesser compettion.
You would have to do a huge promo like Daigo (for sf4 fans) vs Kuroda (for 3rd strike fans) to garner some interest and even a couple days later people will forget the epic event that just happened and play sf4 again.
There arent many noobs that are interested in playing 3rd strike and the few that are will never reach pro status because the lack of competition.
The game is old and isnt held in the same light as ST.
That type of organisation requires money something the 3rd strike community will be lacking in.
Fun commentery won’t bring people into the game and you could bring in wong, marn and phillipino champ for a trash talking marathon and wouldnt achieve jack.
I’m sure people can see plenty of 3rd strike footage online I doubt streams will make much of a difference.
People will complain about the yun/chun/ken fest
Watching the stream people will ask “when is the umk3 tournament on?”
wow, what is this trash I am hearing? When the hell did a scrub like you get so knowledgeable of the 3S scene and knows what is going on?
*I play newbies daily that have potential and respect 3s, as most of them don’t like sfiv so were curious of 3s. Near my city, there is a Mexican restaurant that is holding 3s tourneys becauset hey love the game so much. When I gather at the local players’ homes, 3S is ALWAYS the main fighting game people want to play.
*3S is not going anywhere. The ONLY time I hear of Chun/Yun/Ken complaining now its usually from someone like you who says it in their own coy way by blaming it on other people.
*Age should never be the reason to not like or hate something. Being “old” shouldn’t matter if its still good. classics never die. 3S is still barely 10 years old and still is regarded as one of the most technical, competitive and fantastic fighting games of all time. Nothing has surpassed it in gameplay IMO and many other players feel this way too. Chess is ancient too, but you will ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS find people playing it online or somewhere else… and it still is great masterpiece of a game. Go to GGPO or a local arcade (that is somewhat popular and not dead) that has 3S and see that there is ALWAYS people playing it. Many of the same over and over and many new players that come and go.
*3S will sell bunches on XBOX and PS. It will only bring in many more players. Some will leave, but for the most part, it will only bring in more players to this gem of a game.
*You can’t say who will reach pro status and who will not and when or when not this will happen. Unless you’re God, are you God?
and no one listen to Lousiphifer. He has honestly been getting torn apart on GGPO by me and others and he is being a bitter asshole over it. He is a scrub who wants to blame all of his mistakes on someone else. Such as when I’m beating him its like, “All you do is backdash and throw…all you do is parry and super…etc…” Get better, Loius and dont worry about what another player is doing, just win with your own tactics. If the player is better (like myself), learn to get better and don’t take the ass whupping so much to heart.

I think almost everyone has said that a new game in the sf3 series would be cool. That’s when a rebalance would make sense. If they did such a thing and added like 2 characters that would definitely revitalize the SF3 line. I’d love to see that. If they’re just going to release 3S on a new platform though I’d much rather it be a version of 3S that isn’t screwy and consistent with the most played version (arcade 990512).
That’s all really. I don’t think that makes you old and set in your ways. It’s just reasonable. If Capcom wants to take a stab at the sf3 games again and have some of the old crew work on them I’d be very interested to see what comes out. As long as it stays an sf3 game and only minor kinds of changes are made like from 2I to 3S. I think everyone would be pumped for that. Pending that though we already have 3S and it’s a great game that will eat hours and hours of your time.
ieatkittens: eh you’re just being a pessimist. That’s fine, it’s a necessary evil but hey if people enjoy the game and want to play it even on a local level that means there’s the chance some of them will become more interested and explore it further. They’ll go online and see the people who do still play and maybe want to get involved. You have to start somewhere.
The community isn’t going to explode or suddenly grow, no. As long as there are people still playing the game though and ways for new people to play it (ggpo/emulation is huge in this but also 3soe) the community will keep going. 3S is well past it’s glory days in the US, but that simply isn’t a good reason to stop playing if you enjoy the game.
Newer players have a hard time because the community is pretty small and selective I think. You can’t just come in as a nobody and have any kind of respect. There aren’t many other nobodies to give you respect. You need to humble, take your beatings and move on. If that’s not for you then you’ll really have a hard time properly learning the game. That’s a turn off for newer players I think.
3S isn’t going anywhere. I followed every thread in about every SF/Video game forum and when 3S was announced to come to XBOX and PS, many thousands of people went nuts. It was one of the biggest buzzes ever.
Consider this-
3S barely ever gets advertised or talked about by Capcom or any Capcom supporters, BUT when it does, it sets a lot of people off and they go crazy. It doesn’t take much and we don’t get much. There were so many people excited when 3S OE was announced and I will guarantee this game is going to sell incredibly well.
SFIV/MVC3, these games are over-saturated with advertising, magazines, etc. They are NEW games and people love new stuff - doesn’t matter if its shit or not. Yet, if 3S became this way - even being an older game - it would get just as talked about or more so.
You naysayers will see 3s is not in anyway dead and with this revival on XBOX and PS, its going to explode. I’m not going to laugh or say “I told you so,” because I will be too busy kicking your asses and everyone else’s on XBOX.
I will agree that arcade 3S is near death, but thats arcades in general, especially America except for a few key places…and those key places that have 3s, it usually does very good. 3S in a whole is very much alive, unortuantely the way of the game now is online.
I went to the arcades for 15+ years, and while sad that it will be up to online now, its also a good thing. You can relax in a comfortable environment at home and play more people than in just your neck of the woods.
All we need is a really good online server for 3s.
TRUE… but New players will have a million times better chance on xbox and ps to get good and not worry about these things. GGPO and arcades (with a local scene) are harder for new players to get into, but this will change with the variety of players (and the use of a mute button or not even using a headset) they will get on XBOX and PS.
ieatkittens, clearly you are a huge pessimist…
‘there will never be an American Kuroda’
If the scene in America were actually thriving enough we could very well stand a chance against them. In fact in ST, America and Japan are about equal, they are marginally better but they also have a large scene and a larger commitment. Our Marvel scene is better, because ours is much larger and we’ve been exposed to it more. Over there it’s rare to find a marvel machine anywhere… and even at that, they are still competent enough to be near our level.
Also like VF4 has said before, people go into a 3S match thinking “oh boy here we go Chun.” Tiers aren’t an issue in Japan and people aren’t immediately pointing fingers to the chun-yun-ken fest. It’s these undermining thoughts (yun-chun-ken, ‘there will never be an american kuroda’) is exactly why the American 3S scene is lacking.
I’m trying to think of ways to buff Sean without making him into a braindead character.
well, i don’t think that 3S needs balancing. The only characters that I would buff up a little bit are Ryu, Sean, Hugo, Q, and Twelve. The other characters are solid…
One thing that I didn’t like about 3S is that parrying made fireballs fucking useless. I would lower the number of frames to parry. Because isnt the frame for being able to parry like, 16 frames (correct me if Im wrong)? Thats pretty long IMO.
Of course anything over 5 frames is long because I play MVC2 lol.
^^ Quality trolling.
Way to contradict yourself, you’ve automatically rendered your opinion useless.
If you’re trying to play a traditional fireball strategy in 3S then you’re playing the game completely wrong, and you’ve automatically rendered your opinion useless.
I SAID YOU RENDERED YOUR OPINION USELESS! BUT DON’T WORRY! I’M JUST BEING AN ELITIST DICK!
YOU FUCKING DIPSHIT!
Hold Dat is always right.
Fun and driven-to-the-ground-fact: parries didn’t make fireballs useless, THEY WERE PURPOSELY MADE TO BE WEAKER THAN BEFORE.
Remy sa3- make it the one hit back kick already in the super itself that causes a wall bounce like Ryu ex joudan so you can then do a cbk into flash kick combo. You get meter back from the combo you land and leaves you options to reset after the launch itself. Kinda like giving him a genei jin ender mix up/bar build option.
That’s the only one I can really think of that would make it as applicable as his sa1,2 it won’t buff him at all it just adds to a weak super not used. It also fixes the problem of the counter not hitting correctly on jumping opponents since its the high back kick.
Alex sa3-
Twelve sa2,3
Q sa3
Sean…
For these others I don’t think I know for sure what can make them valid options. I just know that the more options you have available the better position your in.
Instead of thinking like a rebalance maybe it should be more of making things more useful. Add to the variety of the game by making things that are not used competitively - viable options.
That might work, but the elephant in the room is Chun and Yun and they definitely need some nerfs.
kill genei jin and Chun’s SA2 and both those problems are solved! they become high mid tier and everyone is happy. especially Makoto.
