How would you re-balance Third Strike?

im pretty confident that me and a few others that dont main alex but play him casually have better alex’s than the people complaining about him in this thread.

like someone said before in this thread, if you want to play more footsies, low short short super, etc, play a different character. thats not what alex’s is about and he wouldnt be as fun if he were like a different character.

how about until capcom saids “YES, WE ARE REBALANCING THIS GAME” people dont give suggestions to how they want the game balanced? doesn’t this sound fair? it would sure save a lot of wasted words and a lot of time with this discussion

Pillock.

To be honest, I think Ryu in 3rd Strike is perfect and doesn’t need any changes.

Ryu’s game doesn’t necessarily revolve strictly around his EX moves. EX Fireball is pretty much his best tool of the bunch, but you can’t just mindlessly throw it out because of being safe on block. There are plenty of other ways for Ryu to get a knockdown or dish out huge damage without the need of EX moves, so I don’t think adding one more EX stock is necessary.

A lot of your suggestions are either from missing combos(j.HK) or probably just using certain moves at the wrong times(sweeps, SA1). I’m not claiming that you are since you didn’t say so yourself, but all of Ryu’s moves can be used effectively in certain situations, luckily most of them being pretty standard.

EDIT:

I definitely agree with this. Part of what makes 3rd Strike so much fun is that all the characters play differently from one another, and even SA selection can drastically change how a character is supposed to be played. Rebalancing 3rd Strike could possibly take away a lot of that uniqueness and just make the game overall less fun to play.

I also agree with this it would be stupid to rebalance this late into the games life cycle especially if they didnt re release the game in the arcades. Which would only be its chance to survive. Thats what I was trying to do is keep 3rd strike ryus uniqueness into consideration when rebalancing him. I am content with 3rd strike ryu and in a sense the suggestions were a lite/diet version of 2nd impact who is awesome in comparison. Also I’m not trying to argue with you aku Im just justifying my decisions and feel free to correct any errors i may have said about ryu. I dont think 3rd strike should be rebalanced but if it were these merely be my suggestions.

I’m gonna ignore the unrelated stuff and the trolls, especially those i have played and i know they suck.

Pretty cool huh? Discussions where everyone agrees with each other or stays perfectly calm are boring anyway, at least for me.

I thought the people who said things like “omg Chun, Yun, Ken, are scrub characters! They need no skill!” are the ones that get the most hate. I understand that some characters are easier to use, but isn’t it also diversity if a characters moves are more versatile? Like, when Chuns footsies limit your option to a point where it is impossible to even trade with her, then you are stuck with very few options that are at least able to trade, let alone beat her options, doesn’t this make you a pattern player? The way you put it makes me think that you say only scrubs play Chun because she can win so many situations by only pressing b+hp but i am sure thats not how you really feel.

What about the people who always disagree with what i said? Are they not brainless? They repeat the same stuff the “old” players say. The guys that are always against everything “mainstream”, the cool guys? Linkin Park sucks, they sould out, they are mainstream! Lupe is the only true rapper because radio stations don’t play his stuff!

Okay, im am going to try to do that today if i find the time. I also very much like that last sentence.

Yup, my ego is indeed huge but i can also admit when someone is right.

Numbers don’t lie, they don’t care about your skill and they are something we can’t change. They might not be the answer to everything but they help us to explain a problem in an unalterable way. If it’s 0 °F outside then it is cold, no matter how many jackets you wear, it still is fucking cold outside.

Now, to keep this as short as possible (lol) i am not quoting what ieatkittens and aku said but i am trying to make it as uncomplicated as possible.

Normals

  1. Alex jumping HK is great, especially in the matchup against the twins. Jumping fierce is fine too. I personally use j.hp to start combos and j.hk to zone (most of the time). Jumping MK is fine too and jumping MP is a good move to dash in afterwards (air to air hit).
  2. Making his HP faster would probably make it too strong even tho it is only 1 hit. Like aku said, it beats a lot of shit and is not that easy to react to.
  3. Making his sweep safer would be nice, but i prefer the “surprise effect” instead of making it a move that is more or less safe to “spam”. Sweeps are always risky, often its a knockdown or get punished scenario but thats what i like about it.

Specials

  1. Startup of DDT is fine, the move is comparable to Hugos Meat Squasher in a way even tho i personally find Meat Squasher to be the better move obviously.
  2. What aku said.
  3. Chop startup and recovery is fine, i wouldn’t say they are as good of a pressure tool as Necros Hook or Hugos claps but everyone of them can lead to pretty good damage, well except lp flash.
  4. EX Elbow is cool!

Combos

Supers

  1. I’d say that a good Hyper Bomb would make up for the lack of EX meter, unfortunately Hyper Bomb isn’t good.

  2. I don’t really know what to think about that because it ends with a throw. If the vortex is too strong then the super becomes safe if the opponent doesn’t parry because of the throw, if the vortex is not strong enough then you get punished anyway so whats the difference?

  3. I LOVE STUNGUN! Maybe do something with it like Kishin Riki (Oro SA1) so it has 2 different version like a ground grab version and a air grab version. But aku is right, can’t touch this!

This. If i wanna play a Shoto then i play a Shoto. It just feels like 25% of his damage is throws and 75% everything else. I know his kara throw is really good but being a fast grappler means being able to “sneak” in fast grabs every now and then, the only problem is that his throws aren’t fast. That is one of the points why i would rather improve the startup of his Powerbomb instead of the damage. I rather land two 150 damage Powerbombs than one 300 damage just because more Powerbombs make me fell more like a grappler.

True. Ryu has the typical Shoto footsies, good EX moves, good stun damage, a versatile super, a damaging super and a unique super that is different from every super in the game. Stungun is unique too, but im not gonna compare Denjin with Stungn!

Honestly part of the diversity, atleast for me, stems from the fact that some characters besides being different, might actually take alot of work to use because of their inherent flaws.

substitute retard for novices maybe? I’d like an explanation for that too

the same guys who run to Alex are the one who propably play with Abel in SF4. Alex “looks” like he doesnt take a lot to win, then they realize how hard it is after they run into a good player. thats my theory at least

pre sf4 era - “yo i think Aex has some shit to him, im gonna work hard on my matchups and show ya’ll he’s not weak”

Sf4 era- “this guy needs buffs.”

Yes that’s the point. Not all characters are equal. It’s just that simple. Some people don’t mind or specifically want that additional difficulty in learning.

failfail: Versatility is not diversity. Don’t be confused there. 3S has a lot of diversity looking at the game as a whole. Certain matchups may be lop-sided with a character dominating gameplay; that’s fine. That’s because the characters don’t all have moves that perform the same functions but look different. They’re all over the place in terms of unique moves/movement. What this means is matchups are more complex as far as learning goes but the trade off in terms of entertainment is you really need to change yourself depending on who you’re playing.

I completely understand the feeling that some characters just have a harder time and they shouldn’t because wouldn’t it be more fun to see more character diversity? The problem is character diversity isn’t really a problem for anyone but spectators so it’s really just a stupid discussion. Even so I don’t think diversity is a problem.

Just because we see a few characters relatively often winning tournaments doesn’t mean there weren’t plenty of other characters participating but not winning the whole thing. If you take your mind off winning and concentrate on enjoying the game issues about balance and the like are just not as important as improving your own game and overcoming all the obstacles (like matchups).

Those of us here who really enjoy the game are bothered by people wanting to change it because if you want to change it that means you’re not really into the game. There’s little difference between people who make lists of changes or say chun yun and ken are cheap and need to be nerfed.

Well Diaper Bomb plays Alex and he is not annoying.

^That’s Daigo Bomb

Controversial statement: The game is dead. A handful of arcades have it. Kuroda has retired. A handful of men still play it at a tournament level. Online play for 3S is a cesspool.

So with that in mind, what harm could a rebalance do? I say it would make the game feel fresh and give it a few more years (if not more) of life if done right. Last time I ever bring this up: KOF 2002UM is in Arcadia’s Top Ten list, and I think 98UM is in the Top 20 or so. I say just consider it as a new experience. It’s not like Capcom is going to go into your arcades and raid your homes and destroy the arcade cabinets and Anthology discs for your consoles.

yes please rebalance. everyone agrees with you.

if they are gonna rebalance, then they will. if they arent then they arent. you arent gonna change the minds of people who want it to stay the same, and were not gonna change yours.

ps. 3s is not dead in japan.

My bad. HOW COULD I BE SO FOOLISH! :open_mouth: xD

>.> Just ignore him xD

I’m an asshole.

yes youre correct. sorry for getting in the way of your dialog. sorry dog.

Try thinking before you speak, quit parroting or just making up bullshit for your arguments, and someday you’ll receive as much respect as that Sailor Moon game on the SNES.

ggpo trash all over srk, sad state of affairs.

how would i rebalance it? delete this thread would be a good rebalance.

Even though it would be a sad day for many 3rd strike fans. I think hd, rebalance plus 2 more characters with a release in the arcades could help revive the series. Otherwise 3rd strike imo will die a slow death. Sf4 did the damage but I think sf5 when released and if recieved well will deliver the final blow.

A rebalance will not accomplish that. HD Remix/MVC 2 is a perfect and current example of this

the only thing that will inject new life into 3S are the players, tournaments, events, rivalries, grudge matches, etc.

the Marvel community has the blueprint on how to keep shit alive. all we need is an arcade perfect port and the 3s players to come out of hibernation and 3S will be fine.
