I still have no idea of how it works, Serp.
Tenboss just tweeted me that he had discovered it, and asked if there were ways to use it.
Then I brought the question here.

Starting to see some limitations to this tech…
oh well i just tested it.
not that good tbh … still good tech
well, that was a bust. i was excited for illusion to finally have a use.
this either means that capcom screwed something up, or we’re getting close to a great tech. why would illusion even be cancelable?
Probably an unknown byproduct. That or there’s a universal rule whose jurisdiction Illusion falls under for being a command normal.
And illusion isn’t useless, you just can’t use it on someone who is falling, air dashing down, or using an otherwise down oriented attack in the air. It’s useful for purely standing highs and moves with a long recovery when whiffed because Illusion makes the attack think it didn’t connect. You have to already know Illusion will work favorably in the situation you are applying it to.
Gonna try out my Strange out for the first time since early December at the local scene today. Hopefully I don’t blown up as quickly as I did in the past. I think I used to play point Strange(EoA) with Task(HShot)/Spencer(SlantGrapple).
i didn’t mean that illusion is completely useless, but it’s definitely not as good as i thought. maybe i’ll play around with this illusion-plink business later.
Combofiend was playing Dr. Strange anchor with his She Hulk/Spencer shell at SBA. Any thoughts on this?
Any footage on youtube/stream?
Edit: From what I’ve seen, his Strange is quite bad as of now. (which is completely understandable). He was getting happy birthday’d quite a bit and Strange is clearly an assist character right now. Saw a bit of SoV spam as well, and a few dropped combos in x-factor.
All in all, I’m not surprised at his performance; he had just picked him up and Strange isn’t easy to grasp at the start. But I look forward to the future and hope he sticks with the character and represents him well (as I’m sure he will if he continues to play him).
I’m just hoping that he sticks with him.
Wheres the footage?
Only footage so far, the rest of the stream hasn’t been added to youtube so far.

Peter will. He’s got FoF-loops down by now, and he’s coming to Brazil next weekend for Brazil Game Show. We’ve got a weekly in Sao Paulo every Friday, which has every week some of the best talent we’ve got in our scene like DoomBR, Bruno Wizard and Erotiky. October 12th is a national holiday in Brazil and the first day of BGS, so the FNF (Friday Night Farofa) will be godlike, since some people from other states/cities will also be there (me too, for the first time). Peter’s going there, so I can share some of the tech we’ve gathered along this almost one-year of UMvC3 with him. And as you guys probably expect, if combofiend sticks with Strange, he’ll become a beloved character and lots of people will also play him, because of the fiend-effect.
I’ve actually considered that team. I think it’s pretty nasty on paper. Hard tag from She-hulk command grab into Strange = meter positive ToD? I’ve also thought about doing inescapable “Hame” situation like Abegen but with this team. Incoming character, Spencer slant > Bionic arm > 7 rings > She hulk air grab. Maybe?!
So, for the people playing Dr Strange second, he might not be so free to incoming mixups. I was thinking about a way to do something similar to Dorm Inferno for evading incoming mixups, and i think Strange have it. Much like Inferno power up requirements, Strange can setup yellow graces in the field after of a DHC kill. After of a SOV that use all of the 150k damage, Strange has enough time to grace L, TK EOA, hard tag into point character. If Strange somehow gets 3 graces L on the field then the suddenly is not free at all to incoming mixups, because of lv 3 flame combo breaker capabilities, specially if one of those graces L is in the corner/hidden behind the corner. Think about this tactic guys, might be useful as a defense master plan.
Anybody messed around with throwing an EoA slightly behind the entrance of an incoming character? IP as the character comes onscreen guarantees enough space to teleport behind them. I think Ive seen Tenboss do this before.
If you face a char that cannot airdash, place an EoA right in the corner, dash back and teleport H. The enemy will need to block a crossup. If he doesnt pushblock, an ambiguous j.H; if he pushblocks, you are in full-screen range and ready to annoy the hell outta him with Doc’s zoning.
I feel like the optimal Strange team would involve Vergil.
But no one has really decided on who the 3rd character would be.
I feel like Vergil(rapid slash)/Strange(bolts)/Ammy(cold star) would be extremely cheap though.
Fuck Vergil. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)
Strictly speaking on optimizing him in all positions and getting the most out
of everything he has to offer. I see these as his best teams.
Strange Dormammu Vergil
Spencer Strange Amaterasu
Morrigan Dr Doom Strange
I thought about it, but the range for action for that team is too short (cold-star reaches 1/2 screen, and slash is not a projectile-like assist) not to say that it lacks health. Same thing with Akuma, for the exact same reasons.
I went Doom cause it boosts both Strange’s damage output and defense/zoning, not to say that he is dumb and capable of xfc3 comebacks.
