How to Stop Worrying and Love the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth - The Ultimate Doctor Strange Thread

it would be funny to see an EoA infinite because that thing increases HSD like no tomorrow.

I’m still kind of soul-searching for my Strange team. Right now I have Taskmaster (Aim Master L) and Dormammu (Black Hole) and neither of them are really gtfo assists. Aside from the 3 you listed - what are the other best? I’m not even sure I like Strange/Taskmaster/Dormammu. I’m pretty hellbent on Strange/Dormammu, but it’s not set in stone. I’m just having so much trouble finding that third character. I’d prefer someone less advanced since I wanna put a lot of time into Strange, but it seems that really limits my options because a lot of the advanced characters have the best assists for Strange.

But won’t having Wolverine in my face prevent me from starting up Seven Rings? Same goes with EoA. How do I get one out when I’m locked down with Drones and being dry humped by an 100 year old speedy midget with a Napoleon Complex?

Separate question for anyone: Can Stephen benefit from an otg assist? I know he can, what I mean is: is it worth it? Or are his combos enough to ToD anyone without having to pick up with Samurai Edge or Katanarama (I keep hearing people talk about Strange’s ToD combos, but I’ve yet to come across one)

hmm… someone’s playing around with this thread because i answered this question earlier today, and now my post is gone.
anyways, you know wolvie’s just gonna rush in more than he normally does when the drones are called. you could try pushblocking wolvie and use 7 rings when the drones get close enough, or super jump and use vishanti spell. just do whatever you can to get the assist. if it’s really a nuisance, snap in sentinel, and kill him. i hope you have a great incoming mixup! if you want to throw in xFactor or DHC into the mix, you can kill sentinel’s assist.

For the record, Strange’s infinite is highly impractical and he does not need it at all.

This infinite business is going to kill the game, anyway. Good thing Persona 4 is coming out in a couple of months.

Yea tortonon showed we can do FoF loops off of TACs

Aside from this whole TAC talk, i’m starting to think Strange really doesnt need a GTFO assist, cr.M is a GODLIKE anti-air. So far i have beaten wolvie divekicks, pipes, nova j.H and other broken BS with this normal. And he can confirm it with Mystic sword L into the IP loop for 3 reps. It’s trully an underrated defensive normal, and probably Strange best normal considering his battle plan.

Tell me it beats Trish’s divekick as well and I’m sending Akuma to hell.

How would you recommend I deal with the situation I was in the other night then? Wolverine in my face, Berserker Slash mixing me up with Drones. I don’t think cr. M will do me much good against a Wolverine who is in my face and isn’t jumping. What do you suggest I use if I don’t use a GTFO assist?

Cancel into Mystic Sword L and M if he’s trying to approach you with divekicks.

oh, i forgot about cr. M! the stupid guide keeps saying, “use the grab option select when people jump at you.” well, that doesn’t work too well. there was this one laggy online match i had with a wolverine; i stopped his divekick twice in the same match with an impact palm lol! i was trying to do EoA, but it worked out.
and are you saying it beats haggar’s air pipe? if so, THANK YOU! i wonder if it also beats zero’s air normals…

Already, Doctor Strange is looking stronger and stronger and many people sleep on Strange enough as it is.

@rotendo

So, i have been doing some research on Strange cr.M. Check out this matchup info! (of course, assuming Strange do the cr.M when he is supposed to)

Modok j.S: Trade, so Strange lose because of ground bounce
Dormammu j.S, j.L: Strange wins
Akuma tatsu and regular dive kick: Strange wins
Akuma special dive kick: trade
Vergil Helm breaker and j.S: Strange lose, its a trade sometimes with the j.S
Wolvie Dive kick: Strange wins
Storm j.S: Strange lose
Skrull meteor smash and j.d.H: Trade or Strange wins if timed absolutely right
Doom foot dive, right above, Strange lose
Doom j.M and j.f.H: Strange wins
Trish j.d.H (dive kick): trade
Trish j.airdash H: Strange wins
Magneto j.L and j.S: Strange wins
Zero j.H: trade or strange wins
Zero qcf M and j.S: Strange wins
Spencer horizontal and diagonal grapple airdash into j.S or j.H: Strange cr.M wins so easily this…
Felicia dive kick: Strange wins
Haggar Pipe: Strange lose at some angles, and win at some others
Nova j.H: Strange can win, but the timing is strict
Nova j.S: Trade
Strider Vajra and the other teleports: Strange wins
She-hulk j.d.H: Strange wins
Frank j.d.H: Strange wins
Dante j.S: Strange wins if he is close to Dante. If cancelled into the hammer Strange wins in the non-invincinble startup frames. If not, hard knockdown.
Joe hot kick: Strange wins
Nemmy j.M and j.S: Strange wins
Arthur j.S: Strange lose
Ryu L air tatsu: Strange wins

So far this, but of course, the timing has to be very good… and this is lab work, in real fights it takes more skill and timing to beat BS with anti-airs. Anyway, this proves Strange cr.M as a powerful anti-air that hitconfirms with Mystic Sword L or XFC into the IP loop

strange has this weird power over me. i know he sucks but i just want to keep using him :[

I don’t think he sucks, I feel he’s more of an advanced players character. I hate using him online cuz the lag won’t let me do his most basic loops.

im probably just a scrub then, i cant do anything vs the better players with strange.

How and when do you guys plant Graces? I read on one of these threads that random super jump > Grace of Hoggoth wasn’t a good idea. Do most Strange players even use the Graces? I know they’re good for solo cross-ups, but when do you feel safe laying them out?

i still see a lot of strange players who super jump>daggers of denak M, and i keep thinking it would be so much better if they would have just used an air grace. not necessarily 3, one would do just fine. it’s so cool to watch the FoF go off screen while your opponent attacks you and forgets it’s being redirected/powered up by your glyphs that were planted earlier. they almost act like hidden missiles.
i say sometimes you just can’t stay on the ground, and your opponent is pretty close to you. when that happens, jump and plant a glyph.
if you’re against an anchoring shoto, you can pretty much stay on the ground and do whatever you want while you wait to counter the inevitable projectile hyper.
i’ve also seen people use impact palm, grace, continue the combo without using the grace, do air combo, etc into FoF xx spell of vishanti. while the FoF is flying around, teleport and go for a reset type thing.

Guys, when in doubt cr.M into Mystic sword L! i think this is probably best Strange response to the most of the tridash mixups. Superjump, Grace L at fullscreen distance is actually a good tactic.

hmm… i’m thinking cr. M would be good to do when you hit a close opponent with a SoV, and they air recover towards you with an air attack.
i’ve noticed that people ALWAYS air recover SoV towards dr. strange.

the way i use graces is at the last rep of your IP loop you should be close to the corner. after the last air IP when you land IP call and call you assist at the same time. you should have an assist that stays out for a little while so you can set up a grace in the corner ex Vergil R slash, Franks cart, akumas tatsu and super skrulls fire spin ( i always forget the name of that assist) to name a few. a few tips, FoF eats up all beams even sentinels spit, when you trying to get away from your opponent do IP as you jump back this catches a lot of ppl. dont forget about illusion bait opponent to try and jump in. some ex when to use it, Sentinel love to use frying pan when they jump in on you keep you eye out for this. Dante and Vergil players always do Helm beaker when they get above you bait this out, same go’s for Wolvies dive kick. always be on the look out for doom dive kick illusion gos through both version of it bait it out by zoning him like crazy they almost always use foot dive to get in.
