I’m an idiot. I didn’t ground my hex inverter!
I was wondering how would you hook up your xbox mic to your pcb after the mod? Do you open your arcade box every time or is there a simpler method of doing that?
I tried to mod it and it blinks when i press the 3 kicks button as suggested with the chimp. I see the madcatz controller blink green and nothing afterwards. In pc mod it doesn’t recognize the controller, but in ps3/pc it does.
just signed up to say thanks for the guide! got mine working today. if its any use to anybody here are the “button mappings” from the pc (when you go into properties):
button 1: a
2: b
3: x
4: y
5: LB
6: LB
7: Back
8: Start
9: Left Thumbstick Click
10: Right Thumbstick Click
If i don’t do the trigger and when i press jab, forward, roundhouse on my chimp before plugging it to the xbox360, and it should recognize the the xbox360 controller right?
The ChImp has Autodetection.
So you wouldn’t need to hold down any Buttons to plug into Xbox 360.
And Jab + Forward + Roundhouse is not correct.
It is Short + Strong + Roundhouse.
And Triggers have nothing to do with doing this.
Get a 2.5 mic extension cable from monoprice.com and have the cord hang off the case. Cannot use the 1st gen mic that fits flush with controller contours.
Once again, thank you so much for your help. I was thinking of using this method however, how do you know when the extension cable supports both headphone and mic? For instance, I purchased a 2.5 mic extension from a local store and for some reason the mic portion of my headset does not get transferred through.
Have you tried these extensions from monoprice.com yourself or do you know someone that has been successful in accomplishing this with those extensions? Although, maybe the problem could be due to my headset. Because, I do have one of the first generation headsets which happens to fit flush with the controller.
Nevertheless, thank you for the reply and the website. They have amazingly cheap prices, will order one and give it a try.
sorry if this has been asked/explained before, but i broke off the wiper contact for the right trigger. is there anyway i can fix it or solder the wire to a different spot? i really dont want to buy another controller just for that.
i hate bumping up an old thread, but im having issues soldering the small connections (buttons and start / select / guide) . i bought some of this stuff…
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.20583
for flux. i took a piece of plastic and i put a bit on the PCB. when i tried soldering with my pre-soldered wire (using tin/lead rosin solder) , it does not stick at all. even without the flux, it doesn’t stick… any suggestions on what im doing wrong? =/
by the way, the flux melts almost immediately after i put the solder iron + pre-soldered wire together onto the pcb. it makes a puddle of flux and then nothing happens after. =/
My MadCatz triggers are hacked
and now I’m wondering if its possible to do the same thing for the analog sticks. does anyone know how i would do it using the same hex inverter chip from the trigger hack? i’m hung up cause the trigger hack uses 2 pots measuring from center, while i want to do it with one pot.
Do you have a pic of what you’re trying to solder to? And are you sure you’re using the flux correctly?
Just checking: Is this the correct way to use an NPN transistor “manually” (instead of a hex inverter) to invert a trigger?
How to hack analog sticks to digital switches
I make the assumption that the pots are 160k ohms, here is how I think they should be wired. Those who know, please comment.

I went ahead and followed my diagram and learned that the joysticks do not need to be inverted to be used. When I hooked it up the cursor is reading full down/right, however, left and up function fine when triggered, it just goes back to down/right. Also, I used 10K 1/4 watt resistors on one chip and 150k 1/4 watt resistors on the other.
But now the question is this, how do I hook up the H W L to a two button switch? Does anyone know how to do this? Anyway, here are pics of what I did, this is how I will do all trigger mods from now on. BTW, I have hacked the older Madcatz 4726 controller, the non-common ground, it doesn’t matter for trigger and analog stick hacks though.
As of now, I have 2 very well made trigger mods ready to go. All you’d have to do is solder them to your H W Ls and to the buttons, very very easy now. I’m just going to split the dual bread-board right down the middle, email me nitblast@gmail.com if you’re interested. I can do a ebay/paypal transaction.

I read in this thread that the 2007 model madcatz pad does not need to be inverted with the hex inverter. But I still don’t know where to put the ohm resisters on the pcb. Is there a tutorial for padhacking the 2007 model?
The only place I could get hex inverter chips are online and shipping for a few of them is like 15+… the link he showed on the first place was like 20$ xD
10K Ohm Resistors.
Put between High and Wiper.
Oh, and it goes High, Wiper, Low for the Left Trigger.
Oh, and it goes Low, Wiper, High for the Right Trigger.
Aww.
I can get them so cheap here in California, US.
Because I can just walk into a store and buy them.
xD Lucky you…???was in seatle… >_>
in your first picture of the wiring done to the board (without the triggers) it doesnt seem like you wired the LB and RB buttons. i can wire them without having to do the hex inverter mod right? the hex inverter is strictly for LT and RT correct? just want a clarification since the LB and RB buttons werent wired til after the hex inverter was put in
Also, I just went back and looked at the pictures, and it looks like you soldered wire to the ground wires of the LB and RB buttons. Am I seeing this wrong?
EDIT: nevermind, i went back and re-read the entire thread and saw that you mentioned you made a mistake soldering but that the diagram was correct.
