How to not suck at Fei Long: An Advanced Fei Long Guide

You can also cancel close standing RH into a super which is easier than FP into super…

neat. so using j.mp, wait for a split second and tenshin?
i was using cross up j.mk>cl.lp>ex Tenshin. But it uses one ex bar. I’ve got to try yours out.

YOINK!!! Does more damage too!?? I like it.

So…you guys were like…using Tenshin bare?

lololol.

You guys are silly.

I was using it like Abel’s command throw… ticking into it by letting the normal land, recover, then TT. So yeah, bare I guess since it is so slow  Or I guess I didn’t use it much at all since it seemed to be useless

Tsk tsk.

Shoulda tested it first to see if it could cancel.

Cuz hey…you never know.

you mean like cancel attacks to tenshin like cancelling c.lp to rekkas?

Its true. Makes perfect sense now.

heavy theory fighter buisness here

so standing jab on hit into normal tenshin is air tight. using my above theory

stand jab hit(+5) cancelled into normal tenshin(14 frame startup)
add in the recovery frames(+7)

+12 on hit
-14 frame startup on normal tenshin
2 frame hole

adds up in theory, but i get wierd outcomes sometimes in training mode where the tenshin wont connect. maybe sometimes i cancell too early, and the dummy isnt out of hit stun before the tenshin goes active. i dunno

working on setups right now from where we know standing jab will hit. such as from a landed CW. normal CW on hit pushes too far for the jab to hit and the opponent to still be in range (on ryu anyway). however ex cw puts you at the right distance. theory filled set up:

you could go ex cw, standing jabxxnormal tenshin. cr.lk, st.lp, cr.lpxxrekka 2x, ex tenshin. clHPxxmk flame kick.

after the knockdown, you could safe jump in with rh, forcing your opponent to block high, standing jab, and hit confirm whether to use normal or ex tenshin, and repeat. that shit is filthy

its a Similar Strategy to Makoto… FP into her dashmove, cancel, normal dash , grab…

suprised nobody saw this sooner i been doing this with Fei for months :xeye:

This is what I was getting at. I didn’t know the math specifics, but I know if I put fei long as a training dummy and do the combo, and if you can’t mash 3 frame jab in between it, then that means there’s a < 3 frame window. That means only invincible moves can blow through – or the opponent is forced to guess a jump. If he jumps and you do something else (standing strong), GGPO!

Also, you can stand jab and buffer normal command late at it will connect on block or hit. This of course gives you a larger frame of window, but that’s not always a bad thing as it allows for counter hit setups.

You can even link two standing jabs and then ex-kaiten and it will connect in the same manner.

This combined with lp, mp, c.rh; lp, hp, rekka; lp, tic throw; etc. Fei long is a beast.

Some characters the regular command throw will not work on cause they have a goofy hit box (abel and rog I’ve found so far), but Ex will scoop them up.

its been known for quite some time that lp cancelled into tenshin, but previously we all tried to use it from fei’s bnb setup. cr.lk st.lpxxtenshin. the problem was that standing jabs whiff if a short character blocks low first. that made the setup situational for tall characters

the new part is finding out that the jab has to make contact if you can force a high block on any character

The reason that works is because when you go from standing to crouching it takes a couple of frames.

During those frames the game sort of sees you as still standing. Transitioning from standing to crouching so standing moves will still hit, although I also think it depends on who did the attack. Fei isn’t that tall so I think this works better for him then say Sagat who has a standing jab that leaves him at +4 on block.

wait guys, i’m confused here, you are meant to say that tenshin will connect if you do the cancel moves? or you guys are trying to make sure that the lp whiff in order tenshin to connect? and we are speaking of regular tenshin correct? i can only see that the second one works but not the first

and i already know doing normal attacks fadc to tenshin long ago but barely uses it as i preffer to do ex tenshin after the fadc and it takes 3 bars while i prefer to keep it for super or ex cw.

actually speaking of tenshin setups, i have a setup that i wanted to test out will post it if it works will test tonight and Nem if you could help me out that will be great

saying that forcing a high block from a jump in, close standing lp blocked, cancelled into a tenshin. cancell like a close standing fierce into a flame kick

Ok this jab xx tenshin on hit doesn’t seem to be working for me very well
I can get it to work roughly about 1 of out 6 times, is this same for the rest of you lot?

I’ve gotten it the Tenshin to connect randomly on hit as well. More so to the fact that I delayed the input after the hit rather than cancelling it off immediately.

Just out of curiosity, how much blockstun does a Focus Attack Level 2 give? Can it give enough to push an airtight st.lp xx Tenshin right off of? Like cause a frame trap? Or is it something that you need to condition the opponent to?

it will work as long as you do it before they fall on their knees

Well I would love to try that out but I am at work, if we can find a few useful setups for tenshin all the better.

he was talking on block. you could get the proper frame advantage, but lvl 2 has a way of pushing the opponent when you dash(fei exclusive) so they may be out of tenshin range after they block a jab

i think i know what happens when you cancell a hit jab into normal tenshin. first, i dont think the frame data is 100% concrete. second, i think you can cancell into the tenshin at different points after the jab connects. if you cancell it too soon, it wont hit because they are still in hitstun, even though the frame data says otherwise
