How to not suck at Fei Long: An Advanced Fei Long Guide

Well, what I meant exactly is…

Get a blocked Focus Attack Level 2 (Opponent in blockstun) > Dash in with lp (cause more blockstun) and cancel into tenshin or EX.

What would the block stun be at Focus Attack Level 2? And would it be enough of a frame advantage to pursue the the dash in lp xx tenshin?

*i think i know what happens when you cancell a hit jab into normal tenshin. first, i dont think the frame data is 100% concrete. second, i think you can cancell into the tenshin at different points after the jab connects. if you cancell it too soon, it wont hit because they are still in hitstun, even though the frame data says otherwise *

Didn’t Eugene pull it off pretty tightly against the Bison player? Or did the Bison player just react to immediately blocking when Eugene offensively advanced up on him?

A blocked lvl 2 focus will give 21 frames of stun

Fei long’s dash is 17 frames.

So +4 advantage.

Assuming frame data online is correct.

Theoretically, that’s an airtight tenshin setup. Almost similar to Makoto’s grab setups?

you missed the part where the dash portion of the fa lvl 2 has extra pushback. ive tried to land tenshin off blocked lvl 2, and they are out of ex grab range. so if you put that jab in, im almost certain they will be too far out. ill check it right now though

Is it that much pushback? Can’t be that much if you can tack on a blocked st.lp. That’s what matters the most. Being able to get that st.lp to be blocked so you can cancel into tenshin immediately. I mean if you’re within the st.lp range then surely you must be within the tenshin range, no?

You should also be at +2 (from blocked FA/st|lp) would be a very tight frame trap, but nothing Fei Longs aren’t used to.

nope. unless my xbox is doing some wierd shit. when you do a level 2, and you dash, it pushes your opponent away from you. at this point you could land a naked ex tenshin, but once you hit jab it moves them out just enough for it not to reach

Aww…that sucks. It seemed like it would work. Meh…

Thanks for trying HNIC!

Maybe that was by design :frowning:

Might be possible depending on the range of the FA, Fei’s has lots of range so maybe within a certain distance the trap can work.

I’ll do range specific test runs later tonight. As well as other scenarios.

In the middle of the screen (no matter what range) you always end up at far lp distance so it does not seem possible.
In the corner though you seem to be in range however I’ve been getting mixed results more often the tenshin wiffs. Ex on the other hand lands everytime

also mike with your tip of performing the cancel a little late I’ve been having a lot more success on the jab xx tenshin

you cannot connect tenshin after a block attack if you are doing by cancelling it like hp xx flame kick, tenshin will not connect because it is a considered a throwing moves (unblockable)

it will work however if you let your punch finishes so its more like chain, lp finished then tenshin

uh…, yes you can. because of the slow startup of the tenshin, they get 2 frames to escape. they could jump, back dash, or do some non throwable reversal. however, if they try to tech, or mash a normal, they get caught. on blocked jab cancell, the tenshins should connect every time. on a hit jab is where you get mixed results

really? going to test it tonight

Edit

nope it didn’t work and i can prove it, lp cancel to tenshin the tenshin will not connect but if you finish lp then tenshin then it will work

so lp xx tenshin (tenshin will whiff)
lp, tenshin (tenshin will connect)

I’ll show you a video just give me a couple of hours

I haven’t tried this tenshin setup on a LIVE dummy yet, but i found that it works wonders so far for me. focus attack level one, and on block, dash forward, and use EX tenshin. Idk if this was already said, since there are so many pages for this thread.
