Kinda late but for what it’s worth I’ve seen Floe on Tekken Ranked in the past, lol.
I always wanted to main Fei, even in vanilla, but I found myself too bad at his combos and it was frustrating. Lately, I think my execution os alot better, so I picked Fei again. This guide helped for the general gameplay since back in the day I was kinda lost on how to use him.
I love Fei, this guide helped me to pick him up again!
Hello everybody! I’ve recently been attracted to Fei Long (in a manly way of course…) and was just wondering if some people that are better at command characters could give an old charge-character player some pointers.
Here is my “training agenda” as it where for lack of better term:
- Practice comboing Rekkas on both sides of the screen. This also includes trying to “hit confirm” by setting the sparring partner to random block.
- Working on my good pokes. Specifically, st.HP, cr.MP and cr.MK
- Spacing and trying to set up a good defense
- Working in the F->MK overhead into my pressure game
My main problem is combos. I was wondering if the following combos are good for a beginner. I’m only looking to practice 1 or 2 BnB combos to start off (hey, gotta start somewhere).
For some reason, I can’t get cr.LP->Rekkas to work. Is there some trick I need to know about to get this to work? I’ve been press down<LP<DF<F<Punch. Is this not how you do it or is there a buffering thing I’m missing? I went into look at my inputs and it looks correct by all I can get is a cr.LP and then a st.LP 2-hit combo instead of the Rekka coming out.
I really want to get the cr.LP --> Rekkas down because it seems a lot of my pressure game flows through that combo so any help would be appreciated.
Are there another combo I should be working on as well? I am also doing the HK/EX Chicken Wing -->cr.LP --> Rekkas as well.
Thanks everybody, this thread has been very very helpful for a new Long player.
cr.LK> st.LP ~ cr.LP xx Rekka is his BnB. The ~ denotes a link, which is a 3 framer (not as hard as Bison’s cr.LKx2 link).
For cr.LP xx Rekkas, you’re not doing the motion fast enough. The cr.LP needs to flow directly into the next punch a little slower than a double-tap. That means the motion needs to be fast enough for accommodate that. Try using cr.LP xx HP Rekka instead of doing LP Rekka, or use the negative edge from LP to get the LP Rekka.
st.HP xx Flame Kick or st.HP xx HP Rekkas are his punishers for most cases. Other than that, work your spacing and get comfortable with standing underneath the clock with your opponent at the corner.
Wow, thank you! The double tap between LP and HP helped me at least 2 combo it. Now it will just take some practice! Thank you! I’ll keep working on it.
Dunno if still relevant but I just made a quick PDF out of this guide for myself. If someone needs it : this way.
How much of this guide is outdated now because it was originally written for Vanilla?
Can someone help with cr.LK, cr. LP, cr. LK, cr. LP>Rekkas? I seem to get it in the Challenge mode, but I could never see myself doing it in the real game. I’ve seen tons of Fei players do it, but I don’t know how to get the zoning/spacing right, and let alone do it on a consistent basis. Any tips?
For that trial you need to chain the first 3 (cr.LK, cr.LP, cr.LK), and then leave a little gap in your timing so that the final cr.LP links so that the cancel to Rekkas is possible. If you don’t chain the first 3 though, you get pushed back too far for the combo to work as cr.LP pushes back a great deal.
It’s a one frame link though, so it may take a good few tries.
The reason you see a lot of Fei Longs using this is because st.LP whiffs on around a third of the cast whilst they are crouching, so you can’t do the regular BnB of cr.LK, st.LP, cr.LP xx Rekkas. Both cr.LK, cr.LP xx Rekkas and cr.LP, cr.LP xx Rekkas are one frame links.
If you need tips for any other trials, despite this being the wrong thread, I’d be happy to help.
BTW - Whoever made your avatar picture must be amazing with Fei Long; I bet he’s dashingly handsome too, and I’d be willing to bet he’s talented beyond measure; and if he has any fault at all, it’s that he’s too modest
lol blatant plagiarism is the best flattery
seriously though i rarely ever see feis do the 1 frame ~ c.lp xx rekka link
I did Challenge 19 (cr.LK, cr. LP, cr. LK, cr. LP>Rekkas), and I can get it no problem. But then I was trying to do it in a real match, and IDK if I get nervous or what lol, but I couldn’t do it.
Then I went back to practice mode, and I got it again and again. Not consistently, but every few tries or so. I understand you have to chain the 1st 3 moves, and link the 4th before you can do Rekkas. I think it’s the linking that gives me the most trouble.
I feel like I leave a gap, but it’s either the notation of the stick being pushed the wrong way, or I’m doing it too fast, as Fei will just be whiffing LP’s while standing up (maybe I’m spamming lol? IDK). I understand LINKS, but they by far give me the most trouble. I’ll look around here for tips.
P.S. I don’t know about the handsome or being too modest, but hey, I’m not gonna take anything away from the guy either. He’s pretty good at design I know that. I want something like this as a shirt lol.
Well, sorry for patronising you in the previous post with the way I was writing then lol, I misread it too. Ha. Anyway, you’re getting the cr.LP, st.LP instead of cr.LP xx Rekkas (comboing or not) if you do it too early, because the cr.LP has been chained and the Rekka can’t come out, so st.LP takes its place. The only tips for that would be to find which link you prefer (either cr.LK, cr.LP xx Rekkas OR cr.LP, cr.LP xx Rekkas) and just repeat them in drills so the timing is stuck in there, like any other 1 frame link.
Fuck, I sound patronising again, lol, I hate that.
fuck, every time i scroll down this page i think “why the heck is spartan double posting” and then i realise oh wait…
anyway, doc, my advice is to not rush the inputs. the final c.lp xx rekka should feel smooth, something you can do at anytime, whether you’re linking from c.lk or cr.mp or cl.mp. the rest of the motion doesnt matter as much as the c.lp timing, cause once you land your linked c.lp, cancelling to rekka should be automatic. i wish you luck with practising this combo… even starnab mostly gets by without trying it.
I didn’t take it as patronizing, but it’s all good. I wanna get both methods down, but it’ll take more (and more…AND MORE) practice.
That’s the thing, I always feel like I rush, even when doing it correctly. Then I watch videos either of recently played matches, or matches on youtube, and I’ll be like how come I can’t do that lol? Is there anything I can do better on just the actual linking of the 2 movements? I know you’re supposed to delay, but I feel like I delay and then the attack is blocked from there.
It can be infuriating because I know what to do and how it’s supposed to be done, but it actually coming out is a problem.
press and hold :lp: :db::qcf::uf:+ release :lp: = cr. lp, lp.Rekka?
You’ll be doing the Light Rekka through Negative Edge, yes.
The d/b and u/f aren’t really needed though.
Guys,
So I’m finally getting better at linking combos, but this will sound strange. I don’t know how to do if while trying to pressure someone. I like to use my pokes and mix it up. But I don’t know about doing it from the ground. I can jump in with a jump MK, then cr.LK, cr. LK, cr. LP, cr. LP~Rekkas for the 8 hit combos, but I have to do a jump (or cross-up). But it’s weird, like I don’t know how to do it while already on the ground, even though the mechanics are the same. Does anyone ever have that kind a trouble? Or am I making it up? I know it’s all about practice.
Are you talking about not being sure how to do the combo from the ground, or how to use this combo from a grounded state?
If you have to jump in to do this combo (not used to doing it from a grounded state) then all you have to do is practice practice practice. You are probably doing the last link to fast. If you score the jump in you are probably relaxed as you know the rest will hit, on the other side of the spectrum you are probably rushing to get through it without the jump in. To solve this just do it over and over again. I had problems doing this too, and training room is your friend here.
Now if youre having trouble finding a way to use this on the ground then get used to hit confirming it from a crouch-tech.
I think he’s on about pressuring grounded opponents without jumping in.
The main thing here is that you don’t have to do be always doing big/long combos and the like at all with Fei, unless you’re punishing or get a lucky CW etc, properly space Rekkas and good poking and use of the overhead is where a lot of your damage should come from, as that’s where Fei’s strength lies, in his ground game.
Set a dummy to a neutral state and workout some block strings and poke strings where they are sequential and you can work it into your muscle memory and start using them in real matches. It might take time, but you can make opponents very affraid to press buttons with effective poking and prodding at them in the corner, and it usually makes anyone but really good players and upwards jump at you in some hope of getting out of the corner.
