How to not suck at Fei Long: An Advanced Fei Long Guide

What’s the deal with MK flame kick being the best (MK CW conspiracy?)? HK is pretty much the same except it does more damage and gives more meter. I can’t even think of any normal situation where one of the HK flame kick hits would miss.

I’m not too sure about mp’s on CH is 3+ more since CH cl.mp, ultra doesn’t work.

Not sure on that argument either since both are noted to have the same windows of invinc (1-5f). If done correctly in regards to aa’ing, RH should be fine. Just do it late. I am sure, however, that this is harder to do vs certain characters given their normals and how low they hang vs how high up the character is (e.g., Boxer’s j.RH).

HK FK only does more damage if both hits hit. With the crappy trade on FK it’s safer to do a MK. Also, frame data doesn’t show hitboxes. HK FK just has a weird hitbox near start-up (after invincibility frames if it even has any).

Let me just say this. I’ve been jabbed, as in standing low punch out of a HK FK (completely beaten, not even a trade) before right at start-up.

Any way to describe that hitbox? Do you think it is even more vertical than MK? I’m going to look at real quick.

lol Imagine how it feels being thrown out of your reversal  I hate seeing the flame of my shien and then me getting thrown, but that’s not any problem of the reversal itself

lk, mk, hk and EX flame kick all seem to have more or less the exact same hitbox. flame kick has to be done deep to work properly and in those situations hk will win and get the 2 hits.

judge against those types of jumpins just beat it out early with a st.hk, NEVER use the flame kick.

Yea, I’m doing it right now and, basically, if you do the Shien right (as you should when doing aa dp moves vs early jab dp > a la ultra/etc) it will beat. That deep timing is just perfect for both hits of RH Shien to land. Tested vs Ken’s j.RH and Rog’s j.RH. It’s all timing + reaction. The one jumping in is just trying to capitalize on your lack of reaction which plays a role in your timing, so be aware. If you can’t react to the jump-in in time to Shien, it likely means you also can’t throw out an aa s.Fierce and they are too close for aa far s.RH. Either block, backdash, or low forward to make it whiff or time your low forward xx super.

Any word on CH frame data?

Some how i don’t like using st.hk as AA the reason is it depends on your opponent’s air attack that the hk can be beaten completely and also some situation it will be too late.

as flame kick, using mk has more invicibility than lk version i believe, regarding he hk, it does deal more damage when 2 hits but you also will land a bit later than mk which is nearly at the same time as when your opponent wakes up while with mk version you still have a little extra time to do a follow up on wake up game or any.

and if you decided to fadc into ultra or cw best option is mk version and it will deal more damage

We had a money tourney here i won Sat…
prise was 200$$ ill put up the rest of the vids in a minute…Bison vs Fei seems to go 50-50

I know I should ask this on the main but since that area is full of lamers and trolls (I remember the thread on Fei’s fixes that HNIC tried making when we got nerfed) I want the opinion of people I do value input on.

I read that the shortcut :db::db: or :df::df: isn’t real. They say that it’s usually 3 inputs needed for a so-called short-cut and it isn’t really a shortcut at all but messy inputs.

So taking this into account I went into training mode and turned on input.

I practiced my :db::db: so I would not mess it up.

Here’s the funny thing, every time I hit a kick button, the game seems to add an extra :l: to the input so my input display looks like this:

:db:
:db:
:l:
:mk:

Just want someone who has good joystick mastery to confirm this is happening (I’m on a pad).

I dunno if this will have implications on how the game is played (ala “plinking” but for special moves) or what might come out of it but I am curious none-the-less.

so, try df, df to get dp moves on joystick and confirm that forward or back (for db, db) doesn’t come out by using input display? sure. i’ll post up

:df:

:df:
:df::p:

=/ best i could get and still get a dp

Awesome guide
Quick question:
Does anyone know how long or how to describe that pause in the crouching combo?
I can do the combo but not consistently because of that pause and it has cost me so matches trying to get the combo down :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome to the world of links. You are not the only one who sometimes misses this, as you will notice if you continue to read through the Fei boards.

That ‘pause’ is described as a link: timing your next attack to combo AFTER your previous attack has fully recovered.

There is no major shortcut for doing this one in particular:

low short > low jab xx rekka
low jab > low jab xx rekka

vs a standing opponent (and certain characters where the stand jab hits them while crouching), this is easier for some people as the standing to crouching animation seems to allow for a timing cue:

low short > stand jab > low jab xx rekka

You simply have to be sure to implement the ‘pause’ so as not to accidentally chain (cutting the recovery of your previous move short to begin the next; this is identical to canceling but in respect to normal-to-normal vs normal-to-special/super, etc).

Training mode (practice + experience) helps to determine the feel for the timing. If you are still not very confident, make your 1st rekka a jab rekka…

…if it is blocked as a result of you missing the link, you’re not in as deep as a strong/fierce rekka would have taken you; and, thus, safer

…if you did it correctly, hit confirm the jab rekka into a fierce rekka into finish if you so please

thanks :), I do understand the concept of links, and I can perform links with many other characters but just with Fei I have trouble with that link :(. I have been working on it in trial for about 2 weeks now ;_;

Congratulations :)!
Enjoy your spoils of war!

LOL is that Guts in your av? XD

XD yes, it sure is!
I need the black swordsmen to help me with my street fighting skills :stuck_out_tongue:

I went to a doubles tourney this past saturday. didnt do that hot. I didnt know it was doubles till I was there and then I got stuck with a BAD geif(mashing out EX green hands lol). at least we didnt get 2-0’d out.

most of the consoles werent patched either (partly my fault), so it was kinda wierd for me.
