How to fight against Honda?

You got a point there. Truly imo, A Honda, Sak, Bison 2 is the best team. I play CvS2 alot more than talk about it now, even if it is training mode, haha. The comp I get in 3S crosses over :p.

i disagree, blanka is an overall better character than sakura, he does more damage, doesn’t get stunned like a little bitch, and has more life. A-sakura is too one-dimensional vs certain characters, and her CC isn’t even guaranteed if your opponent has half a brain. and once you do actually land the chip CC, you’re liable to get rushed down pretty hard against K-groove and baited against P-groove. just my opinion though, i’ve tried to phase A-sakura out of my teams for hibiki or honda.

most people will dismiss this as theory fighter, but for those with an open mind or half a brain, listen up

C-maki (yes, C-MAKI) does VERY well against honda. C-maki can literally play hit and run the entire round and her attributes get her out of stupid honda tricks and 50/50 guessing games.

-C-maki obviously has air-block, you can use that to punish accordingly (i don’t have my DC to test what works, i’ll edit sometime). her lofty jump makes normal or super jumping backwards to bait a headbutt quite feasible.

-Maki’s throw range is 60 pixels, and honda’s fierce 360 range is 56 pixels (strong is 57, jab is 58), so she SHOULD be able to throw him out of his roll before the 360 comes out. haven’t tested this quite yet either. and maki has some crazy mixup options after her punch throw, just check the maki thread.

-Even if maki’s added throw range doesn’t catch the RC 360 or if you don’t like the timing of throwing honda out of his RC 360, she can just scrap it and do a level 1 720. this is a VERY defensive super, and takes all the guessing out of throwing OR going low with honda’s fierce or rh. if honda jumps straight up to bait the 720, maki recovers quick enough to do a low fierce or standing rh as AA (so it’s basically free damage). to get a reversal level 1 720, just spin the stick like an idiot, and double tap jab (or triple tap all the punches if you only have a level 1).

THIS IS IF MAKI GETS KNOCKED DOWN IN THE FIRST PLACE. which really shouldn’t happen. and C-maki should always have a level 1 considering how quickly C-maki builds meter. honda dashed forward and did a 720 SUPER? maki’s whiff throw animation makes her unthrowable for 24 frames. as long as maki gets reversal timing on the level 1 720, then honda’s 720 SHOULD whiff even if honda’s super flash occurs after maki’s.

-70 stun points is nice so she won’t get dizzied very easily.

-Most characters are usually at a disadvantage when honda corner them, but maki is at a huge advantage. all her off the wall tricks are nice, or just spring off the wall and run away some more.

-Honda does RC hands to poke with? just jump up and down and press roundhouse because of it’s good hitting angle. or air block if they do a headbutt.

-Once maki gets her level 3, a level 3 720 OR standing mk/fp into level 3 kick super gets some serious damage for maki to run away the rest of the round. linking into a level 2/3 punch super from a mp also works if honda messes up his timing on a RC move on wakeup.

CONCLUSION?

all in all, maki has the tools to nullify a bunch of honda’s RC 360 50/50 bullshit and RC cheese. always have a level 1 for a reversal 720, and run away and use airblock. get a throw, and capitalize off the mixup. i’d go as far as to call it a counter match, but you have to have a solid knowledge of maki for it to work. and lots and lots of PATIENCE.

PS- as i said, i don’t have my DC on me to test some of this stuff, but it sounds right from what i know about the properties of reversals and throw ranges. if buktooth or somebody who has a better knowledge of the properties of frame data on reversal timing or whatever else, please post up if i’m incorrect on any of this stuff.

dude… no more maki shit. eagle is better vs honda. i guess maki could be a counter but i havent seen anybody effectivly use that whore so you could be right. now if some dude goes to evo and fucks shit up with her then maybe that’ll change my mind(no it really wouldnt i’d say it was a fluke and tell him to do it again which he wouldnt because all that shock value would be over) but until somebody does something than dont say nuttin yeah. eagle has the best options vs honda out of all the pseudo characters. mid counter is really good and so are his pokes.

i dont’ have a DC or ps2 w/ me as well.

but iirc, maki is off the ground when she does her KKK spin kick move.

so if honda does his rc360/c.fierce mixup on wakeup, maki’s KKK move can beat it.

however if honda chooses to do rc slaps, she’ll get hit(take the first hit only though).

eh, i like C-maki the best because of her awesome level 3 kick super, level 1 720’s to get out of certain stuff on wakeup, solid poking game, her AA game is on lockdown, and the odd ball factor. plus i like good crossups, and she has plenty of ways to set it up.

i think of her as a better ken, because i mess up the RC funky kick sometimes and he’s too kamikazi and random for me. maki can’t dizzy as well as ken, but that’s no big deal to me. nobody will agree with me on it, but that’s just my opinion in terms of maki being better than ken.

Until more people play Maki you’ll have a hard time convincing people she’s better than Ken. Although now Honda has replced Ken as the new super powerful character, just as Ken replaced Guile who replaced Chun Li, who replaced whoever else Choi might have played. So basically, once Choi uses Maki (after a Japanese player does lol) she’ll be top tier.Then we’ll have a how to deal with Maki thread all because Nestor plays cheap and pisses of KCXJ.

well you convinced me that maki is the best character in the game.

Maki’s good as hell, but she is so underused, just like Vice and Joe. I wouldn’t say she’s better than Ken, but I think she can compete. Good rc’s and decent poke and a great runaway game. Very dangerous with a lvl 3.

No more Maki please. What I really want to know is whether Honda can be thrown out of his RC 360 move or not. Either when he does it out of a tick, as a reversal, or as you get up.

I’ve been RC thrown out of my Ken reversal dp+LP move and other times I’ve cleanly passed through. I’ve been RC thrown after a tick move even though I correctly anticipated that Honda wanted to RC tick throw and tried to counter accordingly with my own punch throw. Whether my timing was off or you can’t throw the RC 360 in the first place I can’t tell. Same thing with all the other times it looks like I sucessfully threw a Honda RC 360 grab attempt. I don’t know whether I really threw it or if Honda had messed up his RC.

I will be very upset if BAS wins the big Texas tourney coming up just because he goes around cheesing people with a character nobody knows how to fight against. Anybody have any more general counter information yet? I’ve posted all I have already.

I find Mai to work very well on Honda. Gotta play Eddie Lee style and run away from that guy. Basically keep him away cause you absolutely CANNOT get knocked down or else you’ll be facing a mixup situation. Honda has a lot of trouble in stopping Mai’s mobility for this matchup. It can really frustrate the honda player into making some small mistakes where you can capitalize.
