Hi I was just starting this thread because I looked everywhere and couldn’t find it… The question is how the fuck do you block most of his damn resets and cross overs? I usually just mash buttons to be an ass and hopefully punch or kick him out of a gay cross-up, but i want to know how to escape successfully… When to neutral the stick, when to press punch or kick, and even when to jump out of ridiculous shit… It seems like everyone is playing magneto these days so im just anteing up with smart stuff…
thats why he’s called mag fucking neto
The only real way to counter a mag reset is to know that it is comming and block accordingly. Play against someone enough and you’ll pick up when to start to change your block accordingly.
Now personally i think this is some pretty dumb shit. if you don’t know what’s going to happen next then why try to hit hit him out of what he’s going to do next. sticking out a limb leave you open to be rehit by a faster normal or an assist.
in this game you either block high or low while in the ground and just one direction to block while in the air. look out for non triangle jump dashes and you will be able to block a fair ammount of resets.
i tend to anticipate a dash under c.lk reset, and react to any other type of reset. it works fairly well for me.
another thing to do against sub-par magneto’s is to hold up…if their timing is off you will be able to jump out of a lot of crap you dont think you can jump out of.
last thing, some resets get completely wiped by mashing lk (assuming your playing magneto, lp if your playing cable, and storm is probably lk but a lot of resets dont work right on her because of her body being GAY)
I pretty much go into a state of 3x speed when magneto is rushing me down. Because when he is in your face, you ARE in TROUBLE so there is no more screwing around. Pretty much thinking at a much heightened speed than usual, in an attempt to stay on-par with the other player and avoid being trapped.
It was tough at first but at this point its like touching a hot stove for me. Sorta like an intense FPS-shooter match, you always keep moving/thinking. Hesitate in one spot for an instant and you die.
Thats about all i know, wish i could help ya more.
Look I play this game consistently for the past year and all my friends which is all msp players and mss players train shit hard for like 6 hours a day… I stand my ground pretty well i know most common sense to whether to block low or not and then pushblock… but there is some crazy shit that happens with these new blood mag fucking netos… u make some mistakes and your team is gone… Im just trying to find some more advance escapes from those gay resets and stuff… I know the game pretty well, but theres some more advance resets even when u try to hit out it doesn’t go through…
when getting ROMed: pick a direction (up is best), and then just mash a button (short is good if your mags). you can jump up out of a reset, or just mash short short and turn the tables. usually will not work against the good resets, so observing the height you are at, and being familiar with your opponents favorite resets is helpful.
after a 5 fierce or knockdown: just guess (dont call assist because you are asking to get double snapped).
oh yea and youre gonna die anyways so just dont bother.
When u get romed try blocking both ways at once. That only works on pad(just hold left, right and down on the d-pad all at once ). :lovin:
lmao :u: gotta try that sometime
Hey, look at what is being done to you. Don’t get hyped and think, “Omfg, he can do a million and one things to me at once…which do I use?” If you are playing in a casual setting, you may notice that your friends particularly use a specific set-up or 2 or 3 certain resets. In casuals, don’t be afraid of getting hit so much, but use the time to learn how they hit you, and once they do, what they do to you. Don’t block the opposite direction until you see they have given you a reason to. What I mean by that is this:
(someone said this in a sort already, but pay attention)
*you are on the ground
-block low…not so bad, block low b/c a dash up c.lk takes less effort than a sjc. AD/DF, etc
-block high…block low and learn to respond to their sudden take to the air (react faster, jump away when u can, learn what works for you)
-block left…when in mid-inf or etc, learn to respond faster (though some cross-ups are ambiguous)
-block right…same as above (but, remember, don’t block opposite direction until they give you a reason to…and once they do, reaction time will be your key)
*you are in the air
-block left
-block right
-tech throws…don’t forget about this
-watch for drops to the ground at certain heights
So, your goal is to establish the following:
- are you blocking left or right?
once you establish that…
- are you blocking high or low?
and once you establish that…
- am i getting thrown?!? oh noz!!! O_O (you have a bit more time to execute a tech, so just look for it)
WATCH MAGNETO <O><O> (and other characters ^^ )
*also, don’t forget the other elements of the game such as counters, advanced guard, and DO NOT CALL YOUR ASSIST ON RESPONSE IF YOU ARE NOT SURE OF WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON YOURSELF (not all Magnetos are clean enough to avoid them, but at higher level, you will see it more)…unless you like seeing cool assist infinites
yes, use pushblock on reaction to blocking a triangle jump, saves you the effort blocking whatever is next, even a quick high to low
practice around with it, know when to use it and when it will work and when not (hint, corners vary some stuff and obviously don’t PB is your opponent is in the corner TJing you)
Things I learned from fighting magneto in terms of blocking:
*normal jump block call assist> make sure you are already in normal jump mode before calling assist or you’ll looking to be double snapped.
*resets during ROM> mash LK or LP depending on the character, it messes most resets from rom, even the fastest one. But it doesn’t work on Jose Garcia reset if done properly> that reset you have to guess to block.
*the normal jump air dash forward+assist psylocke reset> block on the other the reaction, it really feels weird to block on the other direction but it works and you need to develop that.
i’ll add more later because i’m at work right now and surfing during work is totally banned, it could get me fired…
You block low all day because mag’s low is 2 frames. You can’t react to that shit. However, magneto’s high is 8-10 frames depending on your opponent skill level and thats actually border line human reaction time.
I had a chance to talk to john sindel a few months back and he agreed with me since he was the KING of defense. He even went as far as to say that whenever you see a SJ flash, he trained himself to react off the blue spark and always was ready to block high.
As for teching throws, a fake throw will make your character wiff a fierce. So, what I figured out was if you hit lp\lk, then kara into a throw it does 2 things. If your opponent fake throws you, its just a light normal which is much safer on wiff\block and it still allows you to tech a throw.
NEVER push block magneto high. EVER. Thats like the worst option to use because it may stop 1 rush down but in return, you give him 2-4 more for free and after that you’re really fucked.
mmm big up on kara light~throw. smart.
LOL at random 1 frame lows, not that it makes any difference in human spectrum.
hmm really? I and better players than myself in Chi have been able to use this pretty well : /
the other player being one of the best blocker, if not the best, in Chicago (you should see him him block rushdown, ugh) and he uses pushblock to get rid of any mixup from a quick tj. yes they gotta dash up again, but then they can only do so much compared to NOT being pushblocked, then they can go high, high/high, land, high high/high, low/high, nj ad+psy/etc/etc/etc/etc…
Wow thanx thats really useful info!!! I usually just push block everything to get the hell away…
I 2nd that… if you don’t pushblock, you’ll be guessing what to do next which is very bad…
you cant block magnus, bottom line its straight guessing, if their more than 3 character spaces away, call ground coverage or psy and block high. If mag is close get the fuck away far as possible or counter hit. Personally i dont block magnus, i just whore high priority moves to make him slow the fuck down.
we’ll if you push block, he can still make you guess because he gets a free rush layer. Basically, its the lesser of 2 evils IMO. Anyway you look @ it, magnus is making you block and thats just bad. Personally, I would use my push block to make sure I got a way out rather than to stop a mixup. Just me though.
Josh is right, the only way to block is just NOT to block. Put shit in the way or slam him with high priority moves to frustrate someone into a clean CH.
there’s only about 4 things i can think of mags can do on that free rush layer, 1.) either dash.f lp cause he’s expecting you to jump> you can call an assist on that then run-away, 2.) dash.f lk+assist>block low + call assist or nj+call assist 3.) dash.f, nj dash.f+call psylocke>block opposite side [don’t call assist here, just try to block 'cause you’ll be snapped if don’t block.] , 4.) hi-triagle jump>which you can push block again or call assist.
<hope that help too…
