If they do it for Tekken it would be kinda unfair. Theres loads of good 3s players who dont want to travel (or enter) for a console tournament. It would be awesome if the west and east qualifiers and the Evo finals were arcade format, but that will never happen.
It’s like I’ve been saying, if you bend the rules for one game (especially since Tekken couldn’t even get the most entrants), you have to bend it for all of them.
Yes I read that, but it’s a shame too. How the hell are you going to confine yourself like that, making it a console only tournament and have international people especially international Tekken players from Korea and Japan. I would find that very interesting if they decline going this year. Biggest tournament, and you guys can’t have DR only because it’s arcade only, what a shame. That’s why in my opinion Texas Showdown is better.

(a.) if you make that argument for Tekken, a game which didn’t even get the most number of entrants for Evo2k5, then you can make that argument for all games.
(b.) with a guaranteed $5,000 up for grabs, i doubt that Evo2k6 will have a hard time drawing the international crowd. maybe not spectacular numbers, but probably not THAT much of a decline from last year.
(c.) if you’re complaining about the lack of international players, please post the total number of international players that attended this past Evo and this past Texas Showdown… yeah, that’s what i thought.
Oh, you’re that Lei player? Good shit with Lei, you had some nice stuff.
Saying DR or nothing at EVO is just retarded. How do you think the ST community feels?
If you really want DR at EVO, then do what CigarBob did for the ST community and make an unofficial tournament yourself.
I guarantee that EVO would not mind to let you barrow the big screens for the finals.
And yes, I am a scrub. Boo hoo …
Rickstah- its says your from torrance, visiting? anywaz yea it was fun ill probably come back sometime next week… Im so rusty thats the first time i played in 3 months
Well from the looks of it, ST will probably be back at Evo in the future anyway since CCC2 will have a perfect of it apparently.
sounds good to this scrub
Ban steve, nina, bryan, deviljin, heihachi, law, and feng and 5.0 might get interesting…
You just listed a top tier that’s dramatically larger than the top tier of most Capcom fighters…so what the fuck is the Tekken community complaining about then?
Played 3s lately? Try a 3-character top tier!
tekken also has only 3 top tier characters. DJ, feng, hei and law are upper mid and im guessing comparable to makoto, dudley, hugo
Geez every game has abuseable character’s either you join the wagon or learn to beat it. what are you guys and gals children???
Screw Tekken. 90% of the players are scrubs complaining about top tiers and cheap tactics. That’s why Alex Valle was best in the country playing the game once in a while. If Wong plays it for like a month he probably will take Evo home as well.
Let these guys throw their own tourneys and give that 5000 to Marvel that makes Evo and SRK what they are today, or to 3rd Strike that is the other big game right now, and has something to do with srk, at least. Tekken and Super Mario have nothing to do with Evo. Let tjose Zaibatsu guys get out of their asses or travel to SBO next year. Get real
ignorant scrub motherfuckers. you think tekken is just like 3s? hardly. stop making comparisions that dont work and think of logical arguments please.
lol keyboard commandos over here thinking they know everything
I wasn’t complaining about abuseable characters and I wasn’t SERIOUS about actually banning them, I use Law… I was just commenting that it would make T5.0 more INTERESTING to play imo. I’ll still be at Evo West and Evo in Vegas, and I’ll play against all the Steve, Nina, Bryan’s out there it just won’t be interesting in 5.0 compared to DR.
The only complaint Tekken players in general have is that we have to go backwards from DR (which imo is a GREAT Tekken) back to 5.0 (which imo was a BROKEN tekken). Everyone understands why that is though, and while it is unfortunate that there won’t be DR this year at EVO, it is what it is.
Wow, this is one of the worst posts I have read on here in awhile.
-
Valle was one of the best Tekken players in the US…during 3 and the early days of Tag.
-
Justin plays Tekken seriously and is clearly not even the best on the East Coast, let alone the US.
-
The community is actually quite self-motivated…the people in Norcal are organizing a major DR tournament that will feature international players.

Evo is not going to be JUST a fighting-game tournament anymore. Plain and simple. The event will not survive if it goes that route, since the genre is so stagnant. I think the organizers are doing a great job of balancing the mainstream (Mario Kart) with the hardcore (importing Guilty Gear Slash, AND for a team tournament at that), and that’s really all we can ask for.

I have no Idea what you mean!!! Are you saying that evo won’t servive having added mario kart and other non-capcom games. Or that there’s nothing the evo staff can do because fighting gamers or a dying breed.
Basically, that they’re going to have to go the Mario Kart route and continue to do so in the future.
The lack of popularity of fighting games is a problem. Namco’s stuff always used to sell well but apparently T5 didn’t. Capcom games are all old. The latest and best version of Guilty Gear is import-only, and (let’s face it) the series in general is far too weird to have a wide appeal in America. DOA4 has easily the most drawing potential of the Evo games, but thus far nobody has been able to get the online players to travel for it. Actually, I think the current Mortal Kombat franchise has sold better in the US than almost anything in the Evo lineup…
With all that in mind, I hope you could at least somewhat understand why we have Mario Kart this year. And to the people who ask “why not Smash?”, I thought the same thing at first. What I realize, though, is that a DS tournament costs the staff basically nothing to run, while Smash would be expensive (since it’s on a console that isn’t currently used for anything). Also, Mario Kart is much newer and therefore has far more casual players (which is the audience I think the staff is trying to draw with this move). I would not be the least bit surprised if Brawl made the Evo list next year, though.
To sum it up, the only current tournament fighter that’s really “mainstream” is DOA4, and the only upcoming one that will be is Smash Bros. Brawl. Another possibility would be Mortal Kombat, if they made a new one that actually didn’t suck for tournaments, but I don’t like the chances of that happening. Everything else will be relegated to niche status in the US, which is why Evo needs to add something different.
