No, but it makes it easier to read. An “enter” input here and there won’t kill you and it will allow us to not have to follow along with our finger so we don’t lose our place.
And I like Planet Zero a lot, but there is a price for having all those “latest and greatest” games. What, 1 dollar to buy a card, then about a 1 dollar a game? Give me a break. Sometimes its even more money.
Kinda doesn’t make it too much fun if you are trying to learn a new game yet you lose and have to fork out a dollar a game.
And the whole “if its on console its not the same experience” is crap. I would say 95 percent of all American players practice on a console at home. We don’t have arcades like we use to. So playing on a console at a tourney is preferred. The reason why the Japanese don’t like it is because well… they have arcades.
Just because the japanese do it doesn’t make it “the right thing” to do. The Japanese aren’t the saviors of video games and we aren’t required to follow their example.
Well, if the Tekken community wants DR, then they should front the funds or at least the machines to do it. I mean, EVO staff can only provide so much. MvC2 would be exemplary on arcade machines, but most Marvel players suck it up and play it on a DC.

you do make a good point “because the japansese do it doesnt make it the right thing to do” and i didnt want to make them out to be saviors, but the games are made for the japanese by japanese and the hardware they play on was designed for it.
now this point “if its on console its not the same experience” is crap!"
i didnt mean for you to belive me really or understand as i am talking from a perspective where i do have an arcade and i happen to be blessed enough to have the money to play there.
now i never really said americans perfer arcade, but deep down im sure everyone would perfer it if the scene was as big as the japanese. also i was really only trying to say you would play better on H2H if you had the exposer we have been blessed with. i still play great on console, but i love H2H so much more.
last thing for america your right arcade is not right, atleast not right now, cause we cant afford it,. but my real point was that the players are evolveing to where we should be and not standing for this below standard version of a game is the first step, i didnt want to turn this thread into a console vrs arcade argument, but i wanted to try and give examples of american players realizing where the japanese are, they are not gods just better off than us. im at work ill come back to this later
That probably has to do with the fact that there aren’t too many differences between the average MvC2 for DC and the arcade version. IIRC Japanese or a few of the first American copies of MvC2 were arcade perfect.
why?
And if you base the US scene on that, we are doomed to be 2nd class gamers. An important distinction is that as a ‘fan’ if i want to get the latest and greatest everything thats on me, but you absolutely cannot expect to actually build anything for the public with that.
Usually the reply to that is ‘f the public, what about us, the scene!’… well the truth is that what people think is ‘the scene’, is actually just a small part of the scene that Fighting games need to have to be taken seriously.
The ‘scene’ when it was actually a scene, had of a nationwide network of gamers that all played SF in their local arcades, not 100 people voting on an internet forum. The people that are left shoulder the responsibility of recapturing that market, not forgetting about it and keeping everything to themselves.
At the same time, there still is a responsibility to the current players, but that responsbility does not entail unrealistic costs and effort just to appease players that don’t want to seem ‘behind’, especially when they are doomed to forever be behind if they base their scene on a totally different market.
Most people do NOT prefer H2H specifically, its just that given the choice between H2H and current console setups, H2H wins. When you go deeper, you see the reasons why this is so:
From what i’ve seen most players would be satisfied if this critieria were met, and you don’t need a H2H cab to do this, you just need an engineer and a plant to produce them. Why hasn’t anyone? again, because 100 people on the internet is not a market. If there were 10,000 people things might be different.
A lot of the current players are stuck on having the right equipment and versions of the game, what they don’t get is that the solutions aren’t really that hard to get, but the scene has to give someone a reason to do it.
If you show a company you can get a million copies sold for slash or DR, they would be making it tommorow. If you can show ppl that a worthwhile home arcade unit would sell 100k, funding and design could probably begin. If you go on a forum with your 20 friends and bitch at ppl for not catering to you, you get alt+f4’ed. Of course telling people not to bitch on the internet is a futile mission, so the best we can do is just realize they are upset and not really understanding the situation, and continue to spend our energy moving forward instead of going back and forth with them.
So how do you get to the point where it’s worthwhile to solve these problems? You get more of a market, You have to go where the US people are, to the consoles, to the home market, to the online market. It may seem like it’s behind compared to japan, but the goal really isn’t to be like them, it’s to create the best scene for the US players that we can, and to become so powerful that other scenes will want to learn and copy how we play while we also learn from them.
The version of the game is a side issue and a distraction, while I will not deny the excitment of playing a new version and having a fresh game, in the end it’s irrelavant if there is no scene behind it.
To be honest if we got people playing Tekken 5.0 and any GGXX, they would still have a better scene if and when DR and Slash came stateside (after a few months of adjusting) than a scene that doesn’t get new people and is preoccupied with wasting money on imports and arcade machines because they are afraid of looking bad on the internet, not to mention cutting off people who aren’t willing to jump off that cliff with them. Having imports and special arcade machines is a privledge and a possible advantage, it should never be a requirement to play if you want a real scene.
Wow really cause i alway thought the dc version of MVC2 was faster than the arcade version
read partially of thread but, i say let norcal run the tekken world championships or whatever for DR. let’s be honest, every evo the same thing happens.
1)japanese people beat everyone in sf and gg
2) justin beats everyone in marvel
evo results don’t even reflect who’s the best in my honest opinion, it’s not for the hardcore players it’s just for spectators.random placings in the top 8 mean nothing.
if you wanna make a name for yourself for your favorite game, you should be going to these tournies.
mvc2=ecc go do something at ecc, let’s face it, justin and sanford are the best and NY is the place for mvc2. props to duc for winning at evo and yipes getting 2nd. but ecc is the place. I personally think evo is harder to place top 8 in then ecc, just because of the format. but you’ll always see random people in top 8 for evo, i.e. genghis, chris schidmt, rawzilla, and the top top players will always place.
3s=do something in socal at ffa, I.E. world championships of 3rd strike, or ffa ranking battles. everyone said justin was the best in the us, but this tourney proved otherwise. seriously, would you consider watts or hsien chang top 10 today from their evo placings? i’d put the top 3 from previous ffa ranbats over them.
tekken=b4 evo, there was EC and TiT tournies, that’s electric cancel (cali) and tournament in texas for your new schoolers. I guess let norcal run the new big tekken tourney. again, sure crow won evo, 2/3 rounds, but what happened after that? all you hear about is insanelee, jinkid, jinmaster placing after that.
cvs2=i guess norcal regionals could be considered the place, since john choi, ricky ortiz, combofiend are probably top 3 in cvs2.
in the end, evo is just for console warriors. Maybe you’ll get an accurate placing for cvs2, since every other game is best played on arcade, the way it should be.
i don’t know what my point is, but basically evo sucks, it’s gotten soft and it’s just for spectators.
“Random” placings in the top 8 at Evo are usually impressive, since most of the time you have to actually beat elite guys to make it that far. Look at 2k4 when Watson made final 8 in 3s…sounds like a “WTF” moment, but he did take out Mester to reach that point. Essentially, top 8 in Evo is far tougher than top 8 in any other tournament since there’s a lot more players in general and a lot more heavyweights.
And, really, no one tournament proves who the best is; it’s all the tournaments taken together that truly matter. I fail to see how what you’re saying invalidates Evo, as any single tournament, be it arcade or console, has its random fluctuations.

You’re fucking retarded. Hsien got top 16 at evo2k6, yi wang got what? Top 64? Go watch some more ffa ranbats and jerk off you fucking fanboy.
must…ignore… flamebait…
<3 srk
I dont realy understand all this bitching about Slash and T5DR. If you want to do it take it into your own hands. Get 2-3 T5DR boards and build some cabinets and fucking do it. God damn it. And if you dont do that stop your fucking crying about not having the latest or best version.
I wanted Arcade ST at evo so I made it happen. Im not rich and im not some brainiac.
Build the shit or buy it. Just fucking do it and stop waiting for some one to do it for you.
FUCK!
Oh no, a typo
I don’t know why MvC2 is different. They took off the ‘guile blade lock’ bug but there is not much change other than a few more bugs they took out. It doesn’t really matter where it counts (top 4 + the top 3 used assists aka the boring characters). :-P.
Whatever happen to that ol’ Tekken Tag Tournament game? Is the Community dead?
Don’t compare you running ECC this year to EVO. I assure you this will be the last time your run ECC.
ECC could run a DR tournament on 2 machines, while evo cannot.
Jinmaster.
ASSURE me? Who the fuck are you? Nobody, and it will stay that way, retard.
go to norcal’s DR tourney, plain and simple. Japanese peepz will be there, sho, yuu, and mishmaster, so yah its goin down.
kinda on what cigar said though, if you call yourself a huge fan, dont bitch unless your gonna do something about it.
