How stereotypicly racist is Street Fighter to you ?, and does it bother you?

died laughing. but i said the same thing (mentally of course) when i fought a deejay once. was like, the hell did he go?

Tekken has Ganryu, a standard loud and shirtless Bruce Lee clone, young schoolgirls - oh wait - SF has these same stuff. Both cliched with stereotypes. - though Ganny is way cooler than Honda. :stuck_out_tongue:

And Abel being gay ftw - lots of shipping potential. Abel x Guile, Abel x Nash, Abel x Seth…

Too many black people in SSF4

Thanks for the hackneyed thread.

SF characters are rarely “stereotypes” or “racist”. They are, however, based on previous media, or real life people.

Balrog is not a generalization on black people that they all box and only care about money. It’s just based on Mike Tyson.

Fei Long is not a generalization on Chinese that they all know kung fu. He is just based on Bruce Lee.

Stereotype is such a misused word.

And Guile is based on pure unadulterated awesome… with an american flag stamped on it.

Indigenous people (paleo-indians) make up 15 - 30% of Mexico. They were the Incans, Aztecs, Mayans and the indians of North America so the T. Hawk stereotype is rooted in reality. The majority of the modern day Mexican population are of Mestizo descent. Mestizos are the ‘white Mexicans’ who are a mix of mostly European and indigenous descent. This ethnic group formed when Spain had control of the territory and they have less of a connection to Mexican history than the minority indigenous population that is the basis of T. Hawk’s design.

Dudley is a bit ironic, yet awesome as he was definitely inspired by Heavy D from KOF, where he was just like Rog basically

A green eletrical monkey named jimmy (no one is called jimmy in brazil lol, sean neither)

Well is’nt totally true,at the time Iron Mike was THE boxer,an icon

Another thing, some characters are clone of legends of martial arts(real or from movies),more than nation/ethnicity stereotype

Ryu = Mas Oyama*,father of kyokushin karate

Balrog = Mike Tyson, at the time the best HW boxer of the world

Fei Long = Bruce Lee, father of Jet Kune Do

Zangief = Alexander Karelin, best wrestler ever, russian from syberia,at SF2 time yet 3 times world champion

Oro = Helio Gracie, father of brazilian ju jitsu. Famous for keep train at 90+ years. Even similar face

Abel = Fedor Emelianenko, best Sambo(Abel uniform is a Sambo one) and MMA artist of the world http://noolmusic.com/z_pics/fedor_emelianenko_vs_aleks_emelianenko_sambo.jpg

Hugo = Andrè the giant, (fake) wrestler

Alex = Hulk Hogan, (fake) wrestler***

*but probably Karate Kid(1984,three years before SF1) influenced heavily the chara design too
**really different design btw
*** imho Alex was 50% Hulk Hogan and 50 Axel Rose

Basically they have not search an idea for an African-American, they just put in an icon of martial arts as he was,African-American

im not gonna lie…

that sounds AMAZING

Capcom has done just fine with their black characters. People can complain when they create an AIDS-stricken, khat-chewing African soldier with a machete for cutting people’s hands off. Actually, they shouldn’t complain because that would be pretty fucking cool.

When are all the fat white people going to bitch about Rufus?

A protestant link if I ever saw one…

I know this was quoted like three times already, but if I was drinking milk, it would be coming out my nose.

I’d play the shit out of Paddy McSpud. I hope his ultra would be something along the lines of chugging a barrel drum of beer, then producing a technicolor vom tsunami toward the opponent.

That would be rather ineffective considering most of the people who might consider bitching about him would actually be fat white people.

Damn son, that was deep. Didn’t Deadliest Warrior do a IRA V. Somebody?

the big fat white people can’t bitch about him… and do you know why?? cause he’s got a Woman!!!
if he was a SINGLE fat guy then you’d probably hear an uproar lolol but he does fit the Fat Biker Dude type with his Biker Bitch!!

Well Sean is a pretty normal Brazilian kid.

I would actually love to see a Canadian stereotype in a future SF game. A huge lumberjack grappler guy wearing a plaid unbuttoned shirt over his hairy chest, plus a touque. He would do insane damage, but then do progressively less damage as the match went on, because he would feel bad about winning and start being nicer. His SPD would be him tackling you, then helping you back to your feet while saying sorry; this would naturally be a perfect reset into an insane mixup game. His winning pose would feature him eating pancakes with maple syrup and drinking milk out of a bag.

Very, and not at all.

What the fuck is with these stupid gamefaq type topics?
