The counterargument is that capitalism is an inherently parasitical system where the customer is always the host. By extorting their fans for as much money as possible, Capcom are being good little capitalsts.

Let’s be real. Capcom want money.
That’s literally all it is, Why so much depth?
God I’m a nerd. I read “Capcom want money” just like the classic Mythbusters line “Jamie want big boom.”
That said, what all these large business say they want to protect “Free Market Capitalism” is in fact “Corporate Capitalism.” There is a distinct difference, the supply and demand of free market is meant to be in equalibrium. However in the case of virtual goods there is an infinite supply to meet whatever the demand is so corporations are able to inflate prices until they reach the point that people wont pay anymore. That is Corporate Capitalism which is about beaucratic companies forced to maximize profits at any cost.
y did u just post this very old news?
cant we use the premade gem load outs intil capcom comes up with a way to load up custom loadouts?
a) it’s not that old. 16 days ago.
b) it somewhat answers a lot of people’s questions. They’re not doing DLC gems right off the bat, and from what it sounds like, they might not do them at all based on how the community responds.
c) they’re introducing a tournament mode as (probably FREE) DLC. no ideas what that’s going to have in it, but it probably will have something about turning gems off.
Not to mention, I remember reading somewhere that if you don’t want to use them, you don’t have to pick any. I could be wrong on that, though.
I thought you just liked muscles and mustaches
The real question isn’t Why, but HOW. I love the man to death but Holy Wow, I can’t trust anything he says anymore. He’s like the Santa Claus of* lies.*
You know what would be nice? If you could preset several gem combinations for one character instead of for the whole cast. That way, at least, you could try to insure maximum coverage for all the popular combinations for each specific character.
He smells like beef and cheese.

I had a thought about this and I figure every gem load put can produce a specific code “12345” and on the character select screen everyone just inputs that code and gets their gem set.
like whats been said above a few times, but the Fg scholars blabber over it , with long diatribe post, they have 3 pre loads easy picks ready to go one click…thats that…Real simple… means your character sucks with the cheesy stock defense or offense preset…shit out of luck …
i felt the whole time these gems were to hide that they did not have time or did not wanna balance the game, so if your Char sucks and you can try and balance him out your self… after watching the finger crap tourny, they look freaking worthless other then make your character glow…
i was scared as shit of this game when it first announced, thought it was gonna be some mvc3 system bullshit…its sf4 with tekkn tagg and juggles and A whole crew of exciting cast from the tekken side…its sf4 with tekken tag and Christmas lights…other then the Christmas lights , it looks Like my dream game… dudes who live for combo whoring blaz blue mvc3 yadda yadda yadda…that dont like the mind games and footsies and the fact that you cant just practice a long ass combo and use people as a punching bag or be the 20 second punching bag off a light attack… this game will be a hit because its a sf4 tagg game with a whole new cast from the tekken universe…Oh yeah im delirious and rambling…it has 3 fucking pre sets…thats your presets in competition . power. speed defense and there probably the worst sets you can make…If you gief sucks with all of them then he is low tier…but as seen on that tournament ,i think there random and worthless as shit , they kinda are what the rage system is in tekken 6 , but random and seem to suck and be worthless… now its xanax sleepy time
THEY HAVE #3 STANDARD PRESETS ALREADY<< THATS YOUR COMP SETS>>>>>THATS A WRAP BOOOYAAKAAAA… its sad when the illiterate guy has to explain it to ya,
Once again for yeah overly smart guys, they have 3 standard gem sets. preset quick picks…power, speed , defense
I think it could work. There might be some GEMS like DLC ones or overpowered ones that need to be banned.
With over 100+ gems. IDK how that would be manage. Will they just allow all of them? We will see.
I think I saw that each gem has an official number so to add to my last post, maybe the tournament mode will just allow you to enter in those numbers INSTEAD of a unique code?
if they allowed players to quickly edit one gem loadout then it would be beneficial that every player remembers their gem’s numbers, though it still takes time for them to pick and choose them it would allow players to use their gems they are used to using. however if not then someone should like in bold list the activation condition’s of the stock loadouts.
aren’t gems kind of a huge part of this game.
how can you ban them outright. that seems like an awful idea.
the only way i can see to make this system work for tournament time constraints is have every complete selection, as in 2 characters and all gems produces a code. like lets say 6 number/letter code.
then when players sit down, they both just enter their code, and the game loads up everything that code produces.
edit: oh i see someone else said something similar. yeah thats the only way it would make sense really. infact that would possibly speed things up tbh. if you could load in pre-set codes into the system. then once everyone registers, organizers can just input codes ahead of time, players simply sit down, find their code, select, there you go.
im sure the game has NONE of these things though. because that would make it actually well thought out.
The game has default presets. Most likely tournaments will simply use those.
that sounds lame. bad solution.
Agreed. I say we wait and see what the tournament DLC does.
Unless the tournament patch fixes everything (HIGHLY unlikely. At best it will just let you set gems at the character select screen cutting time added from 3-4minutes down to 1-2minutes which is still far too much for any major tournament with more than 150people) than the ONLY options are “no gems at all” or “only choose the presets”
The “entering a code” idea is interesting but impractical as it doesn’t solve the issue of “what if a player wants to change out a gem/character.” Now you got a player who has to carry around a notebook of codes in-case he ever wants to counter pick. “Ok this is the code I’ll use if I fight a Sagat and Abel. This is the code if I fight a Sagat and Dhalsim. Ect ect.” also it’ll add “gem checks” to make sure each player got the correct gems from the code in the order they want. And typing with a joystick isn’t exactly “quick” and given the number of gems in the game the codes would be fairly long for 6 individual gems (since they would want to use a universal system so that it is easier to add gems in the future without disrupting the code options.)
I’m drawing a blank right now but all it takes is a little ingenuity. There’s definitely a way to make it work.
