How should TOs handle the Gem System? (READ THE OP, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BALANCE)

How would a player “sneak gems in”? LOL

The TO sets up all the systems right?

just delete any gem DLC from the system before the tournament starts. BAM. No DLC gems and no reason to have to keep checking. lol I can’t believe I didn’t think of this sooner. So obvious.

I didn’t know you could play with them unequipped.

I guess it really depends on the event. I don’t usually set up all the systems. I may assist in the setup but I usually have other things to take care of then making sure that players are putting in the right settings, with most games and most players it isn’t an issue. I also rely on players to bring systems and I would think other TO’s have to do the same. There isn’t a reason for an individual to own multiple consoles and multiple copies of the same game.

If the DLC gems are seperate from the regular gems then it really is a non issue. If they are however lumped with every other gem then it could be an issue. Like I said once the game comes out and we see how it operates, we can make better decisions on the course of action.

Actually the problem with this is that even in majors, a lot of set ups are taken by the community. As such it is a headache to make sure none of them have the DLC and afterwards incredibly rude to tamper with somebody’s system when they were supporting the community by taking it to the event.

When I hear things like a “auto-block” gem i get nervous lol, but there is no way that can be unlocked at the start. i think that tournys will just let people only use gems that you start with and no dlc or unlocked gems. whats the worst it can be a bit more meter gain, more damage, character tags in faster?

If the game is played on 360 and the harddrive is removed would that disable any chance of there being DLC Gems ?

If so the problem could be solved by having dedicated SFxT setups without harddrives.
It also alleviates the problem with having people bring in their own consoles since the harddrive is fairly easy to remove and reinsert.

I am not familiar with the PS3 but if it uses a similar setup that could work there aswell.

I will gladly trade 1 bar of meter to not get KO’d from a combo starter that would have otherwise ended in a cross art that usually takes 50% of life or more.

That isn’t just not a good argument, it’s not an argument at all.

disagree, but u still dont understand the mechanics of the gems… moving along, I think these gems will be interesting, adding more depth to a match but ur forgetting one thing, they are “conditioned based”

so trading one bar meter might not be a good idea depending on the situation bc for auto gem to work for u, u must be hit 3x’s or something like that…it is a “assist” gem hence the word assist from what i understand, that’s all

i dont think it is a good idea to hit the condition by getting hit on purpose, then what u said makes more sense. I dont think it works in a preemptive type of way, now once ur in auto block state (purple outlining), my advice be more offensive and be smart in not mashing**… this gem is NOT the holy grail for Noob’s… man this is just 1 gem we r talking about **

If they go to tournaments often chances are they would be abiding by tournament spec anyway. In the case that they do have DLC it wouldn’t be that hard to just re-download it once they got home. I know it would be annoying but deleting the DLC and just having someone watch to make sure is a pretty good solution.

Removing hard drives is also a great option.

Did this turn into the Gem system thread…seriously…

@Megiddo666 your not helping the situation in the slightest as your throwing more fuel in the fire.

The Problems that lie with Gems is how they should be organized. There is no real simple way to deal with this but ultimately I think it will boil down to these two decisions.

1)Allow all Gems to be used, including DLC ones.
Pros: no gem is outlawed so the sky is the limit.
Cons:Players will complain about not being familar with certain gem matchups, additional cost to TO.

2)Outlaw DLC/Unlockable Gems.
Pros:No Save Data or additional money is required.
Cons:Some players will feel limited.

there are more pros and cons but this is the base issue. dealing with this first is the first plan of action it seems~

On PS3 you only get to redownload things 3 times.

This thread is for discussion about Gem usage in tournaments, not about the gems themselves.

In other words, stop derailing the thread or I’ll start handing down infractions.

Huh? Do you mean activation of the same account in multiple consoles? If that’s the case, then you can activate the account in up to 5 PS3s at the same time, not 3.

That is literally not the case.

Sure it is. Okay, you’d make that trade in a vacuum, but divorced from the context in which you have to make it – the opportunity cost, among other things, a lot of which are details that we have no way of knowing right now-- that’s about as meaningful as your preferred salt (Morton Coarse Kosher all the way).

Also, this is completely off topic. So, there’s that.

What the hell? There is literally no reason for you to be such a prick to this guy.

Anyways definitely colour me in the waits patiently camp.

You have absolutely no concept of hypotheticals.

Yeah I was kinda thinking its like your statement wasn’t absolute.

Maybe he misinterpreted the statement?

-trolls suck-

Okay, then what was your point?

totally false, you can redownload all of what you prchased any times that you want

on ps3 you cant remove the harddrive and play after that
but you can delete the save and system files
but being honest i feel that people are overblowing the issue here
there is no reason to now allow the unlockable gems and the dlc gems outside the reason of time contraints for the Tournaments and exclusive dlc gems
if the dlc gems are avaible for purchase to everyone, its responsability of the TOs to have all of them, i know that for many this sounds bad, but as a TO (and not only fighting games) i really belive that its the responsability of us t have the complete experience of the game avaible at the events
no one banned unlockable characters or dlc chars on games that have them, gems are part of the game and should be used, if people really feel that this game has a lot of problems to being run on tournaments then just simply not run tournaments for it, there are a lot of options of good games that are coming up that can easily take the place of the game
its not like every game of capcom needs to be played on tournaments
