People are confusing “re-downloading” with “game-sharing” lulz
its still wrong
you can share the account across 5 ps3 in total, that is how i manage all the dlc stuff from the tournaments
You’re right - and that’s what I’m saying. You can re-download everything you want if you have access to said account - but sharing one account is limited up to 5 different consoles.
I’m a TO as well.
You know, when you put it that way, it makes me kind of nervous about how long it would take to unlock every single gem. Hopefully, we have, as a society, figured out that unlocking stuff for Versus Mode kind of just blows.
That the trade off in this game can and very likely will be minimal in the face of the gains. It only activates when you need it to activate. As long as you’re doing your job, you should be blocking most things regardless (no meter cost). This gem is there to cover up the gaps and will cost a meter ONLY when you need it, in a game with universal magic series, that’s going to be very valuable.
Even avoiding taking something like 10% damage is worth the meter, especially if you end the round at 10% life.
im hoping for a time saver unlocker key for dlc, i wouldnt mind paying like $2 to $4 for it
There’s really no point in talking about this until the game is out or it’s far enough along that people can tell how long it’s going to take to select gems across a whole tournament.
I hope it turns out that gems are so terrible we agree to ban them, because it’ll much less work and money to hamper events, which are getting harder to organize as we have multiple popular games to juggle already. Plus players will know what to expect in tournament.
TBH I’m not going to be surprised if the game bombs anyway even among the FGC so maybe running tournies for it won’t be too bad.
-sigh-
Please give your crystal ball to me. Since you know the future, right?
PS: stop posting.
On-topic: let’s just wait for moar information.
why has this thread gone out of control?~ it seems we can talk with in the parameters of discussing how should TO deal with said game, but it seems to be always detrailed by comments about Gems or even worse as of late about the game bombing~ seriously are you that salty about Gems/Pandora or w/e reason that you have to troll here? I mean im all for free speech but this isnt the place for it in regards to that.
kinda wish this thread gets back on track though~
Not to be Rude but
We should all STFU about the banning until we find out what all or at least some of these Gems evidently do.
So many uncompromising banning suggestions, assumptions, and recommendations about banning or banning certain Gems and we have not even seen a majority of them yet in action to make a wise decision on what gems should not be allowed.
And for the last time All Gems and the Gem System in general cant be banned. Dis-allow the overpowered ones from tourney’s, once we figure out which ones they are yes. However, banning the whole Gem system is fucking impossible at this point because Ono made it a main feature of the game just as the meter bar is.
well we will mostly all have different opinions on this matter, its why we are in this pickle already~ more or less i was hoping for the majority to come to a compromise on the matter of dealing with Gems~ and hopefully that would be, leaving them be for the time being. as like you said we dont know much about the details~
I’ve got an idea. Instead of banning DLC gems outright, why doesn’t Capcom provide a ‘Gem Rental’ system for Tournament organizers? For example, you pay a small fee, and EVERYTHING is unlocked in the game - but only for a limited time - say 48 hours or something.
That way, tournament organizers have less trouble collecting all the unlockables and DLC, while people who want them on a more permanent basis can unlock stuff through gameplay and buy the DLC they want through the conventional method.
The other upside to this is that it would allow people to test out all of the gems for a short time to see which ones they liked for their character before deciding upon which ones to actually buy.
i’d rather it be a one time fee for a master unlock code or something to that effect+ a DLC package the includes all the current DLC + future DLC but i guess that would be the perfect solution for this problem if people werent so uptight about money these days~
The next person that brings up Gem balance and properties in this thread gets infracted. If you guys can’t go back on topic on your own then I’ll be doing it by force.
That could work, specially if it’s very cheap - a buck or two. A considering SEGA did a demo that expired after a while - Sonic Generations - I don’t think it would be impossible to do with DLCs.
The real question is what will EVO do, as that will determine what other tournies do.
Personally, I think Gems could work, I just don’t Capcom to make it work right, especially given Capcom’s 2011.
I’m ok with them trying the concept, and this is a great game to test the concept in, as no one will be hugely super-disappointed if this game flops- you can afford to be experiemental.
Would be the most logical solution. Maybe Capcom could setup some sort of Tournament support system. Register the tournament, list the number of consoles, pay the fee, and they send you. A code for each console. Which will unlock and download all current gems. Which is what was said above.
But the best we can hope for is. A Gem unlock DLC code maybe a month or so after launch. Added to PSN/XBL which will unlock all the gems in game. When it comes to DLC gems. Value bundles after x number of packs are released (much like costume packs). Would probably be Capcoms solution to this.
As for what gems may or may not be banned.
Logically speaking with a gem system. There should be a gem menu that you can select. On the main menu allowing you to view your gems. If this menu also allowed for gems to be removed from selection. By clicking on the gem so it’s image goes dark. That would at least mean every player. Would not have to carry around a list. Of gems they cannot use when at a tournament but. This would add to the work load. Since people would have to black out all of the banned ones. During the setup phase of these tournaments. Which depending on how many there are/banned. This could be quite time consuming. Maybe more so then it is worth. Despite it allowing players to simply sit down and play. With out having to worry about banned gems.
The simple truth of the matter is that. Any good solution depends on what Capcom chooses do to. But if it is all put onto the player then. Many may feel it is more trouble then it is worth. Still if people truly want to play it competitively. They will find a way to make it work.
Could the time issue regarding gem selection and button checks be solved by keeping every tournament 2vs2? The game has that mode so why not? This would save a lot of time. And it would be dope.
The real argument in favor of banning gems has several parts to it:
-
Fracturing. There are supposedly hundreds of gems, and some can only be obtained via preorder DLC code. As the community generally provides its own setups, this will happen. Some stations will have the preorder-exclusive gems, and some won’t. Even Evo has this going on. Worse, other gems will be unlocked via whatever means Capcom comes up with. Players are going to have their preferred gem loadouts, and will opt to use the station(s) they know to have them available. Now, what happens when, say at Evo 2012, Unknown Player A whose gem preference means he chooses to play matches on Station 4, and Justin Wong has his preferred gems unlocked only on Station 7? How will the official resolve this situation? If he rules in favor of either player, the other will have a legitimate gripe against the tournament for not letting them compete with their chosen characters (and the gems are essentially the ‘3rd character’ in this situation). Ruling that they must play, sight unseen, on Station 2, and they both might have issues.
-
Time constraints. Capcom has proven consistently that they cannot make even a button config screen that takes less than 2 minutes to navigate and set for the past 10 years. All the signs point to gem customization being just as time-consuming, and probably worse, when the number of gems is taken into account. If gems were to be allowed, a SFxTK tournament that starts at 11AM may not finish until 2AM or later that night.
The argument against a gems ‘whitelist’ (the other proposed solution) comes from Sirlin, in his Playing to Win article, “What Should be Banned?”. It identifies three prongs for testing whether something should be banned. A whitelist of allowed gems fails at the first and second tests. It’s unenforceable because there’s only so many colors they can make the gems, and there’s no way to tell if that blue gem is preorder-exclusive, unlocked, or on the whitelist. It’s not discrete for much the same reason. The ‘Warranted’ test is the only part it meets.
However, a complete ban on gems is very easy to work with, as an empty slot looks much different from a filled one and can be spotted at first glance. It also ensures that all players are playing the same game, and is thus warranted.
Such a list is pretty much the definition of ‘Discrete.’ It would be exactly clear when a gem is or is not legal, because you have the fucking list right there.
That doesn’t exactly follow.
Plus, if we’re banning gems because they’re DLC or whatever, it’s a simple matter for tournament setups to just not have those gems.
