I doubt the packs will be super expensive. I think they’ll probably be as much as the costumes or less because its an essential part of the game.
Anyways unlike Smash bros im sure we will have ways to counter certain gems with other gems.

Its probably been said before but I have a feeling that these “pre-order” Gems could probably be unlocked in this game by those who did not purchased them. It’s just something that people can have access to quickly by shelling out more cash instead of doing the work to unlock them.
It probably won’t affect anything in that regard.
For example, did MVC3 tourney’s ban Sent, Taskmaster even tho they were not in the game at the start? No.
I don’t think people appreciate how time consuming unlocking shit is. Probably because half the people telling TO’s to suck it up probably never had to unlock everybody in MvC2.
looks at 49.8% that want to ban gems outright
what a load. if this turn into the whole “ban all items in Smash Bros. despite the fact that it was MADE FOR ITEMS!!” schtick then you should quit playing fighting games or stay the hell away from this game and go back to SF4. If the game has a SPECIFIC FEATURE that was designed into the game and permeates the ENTIRE GAME, you CANNOT TAKE IT OUT or ban it. if you dont like it tough. I guess you guys should ban X Factor from MvC3 huh? I mean, its the SAME FUCKING THING isnt it? its a “feature” that has permeated itself into the ENTIRE GAME and alot of people dont like it and its effect on the tournament scene as a resource that MUST BE USED. but we deal with it and put up with it because its part of the game.
To take it out is to cheapen it and make it into something it was not designed to be. so the way i see it, its not a SFxT tournament if gems arent allowed. Ono says thats the way the game was designed and thats how it should be. if he was fine with people not using it the would be an option not to. there isnt so i think the choice is clear.
if your so worried about time constraints then have people write a small list of their Main 6 Gems as well as a “sideboard” of 6-10 gems. if someone doesnt follow this list then they take a round loss as per standard rules or is DQ after a repeat offense. problem solved.
No. Have you been paying attention? The argument isn’t that gems should be banned because they’re gems. People are talking about banning them because of the problem it causes with it being DLC, exclusive pre-order gems, etc. Last I checked, you didn’t get X-Factor if you pre-ordered from Amazon instead of Best Buy…
Of course Ono is going to promote it and not make it optional. If they made it optional how would they make money from DLC gems? (Because it’s Capcom, let’s be serious. It won’t be free. They’re selling 3s videos for 3sOE as if there isn’t thousands of hours of footage on YouTube) If they made it optional it would also be saying they know it isn’t a good system and no company wants to say “Hey, our bad. We made a bad decision” because then it makes them look bad.
We’ve been over this. Even in that case, there’s no reason to ban stuff that everyone gets out of the box.
In any case, I feel like it’s high time we get something like a special mode for tournaments. Everything gameplay-relevant is available, including DLC (cause you know that shit is on the disc), but you can’t play online, get achievements/trophies, or unlock anything.
Who are you talking to? Respond to someone’s point instead of creating something to rail against.
While I agree it’s silly to ban parts of the game you don’t like, developer intent has nothing to do with anything. Who gives a fuck what Ono says or what he intends for whatever feature? Is he going to be playing at tournaments? If it clearly harms the game and a ban would clearly make the game better, ban away! Just no theorycrafted Day-1 bans, but that’s not how it’s going to go down anyway.
But even if I think it’s silly, whatever the actual people who organize and attend a particular tournament decide is what goes no matter how much I huff and puff about warranted or justifiable bans.
The 110 people that voted on the Poll and created the 49.8 Ball Outright percentage.
Also.
Scrubs gonna bitch.
Keep that shit in.
Computer Blue.
I haven’t read any of the 7 pages in this thread but I am quite surprised that 50% of the votes say to ban them out right. At the same time, I’m not surprised. What if the PS3 gets gems at launch that the 360 doesn’t have unlocked or vice versa?

You can’t know whatever justifications those people had for voting that way, is what I mean. How are you gonna just pick out a whole range of people to soapbox against when you may not be responding to their views?
why should i care about something i dont know about (their views) when all i need are facts (what they voted for)? they want to ban a feature that is a part of the game as much as items and interactive stages were a part of what smash bros. is. if they want to ban gems because they are scared its a money grab, then thats too bad for them. but at least for SFxTs part, its something your paying for that does something to the game than paying $4 a pop for a bunch of clothes.
maybe thats a bad comparison, whatever. all im saying is everybody is forcing us to ride through the ultras and BS X-Factors or stupid “unfeatures”, then they should ride through this too. if they dont like it, dont buy it or enter its tournaments. its clearly NOT FOR YOU.
I’m not the one who specifically addressed them. Of course you need their views (or someone’s views at least), what’s their justification for the ban? Otherwise you’re just talking to yourself, making up your own reasons. If you consider the primary reason as being against a money-grab instead of a gameplay problem, your previous post turns into “too bad for them”. Who are you telling to ride it through? Did anyone use the justification you’re arguing against to vote against gems?
Do you realize that the main call for a ban is so that tournaments can happen in a timely way along with other games?
I do also agree with the people saying we don’t have to immediately make it a tourney game at launch.

i posted in my last post how to fix that. it aint perfect, but if its whats gotta happen then thats whats gotta happen.
You’re assuming that even selecting those gems is going to be quick and easy. Look at button config. Do you honestly think capcom is going to make gem selection with tournaments in mind?
Unless I misread your post and you are saying we should choose a set of gems that can be used in tourneys and then you are practically banning some.
I’m not for the immediate ban, I think this game needs to be played first before we start holding tournaments for it.

Considering 3SOE, maybe they aren’t that oblivious to what we want - Capcom USA, at least.
Though I wouldn’t count on Capcom JP, even if they stated that 3SOE was a feature test for future games. I’ll call it a day if we get as much as Youtube support on this game.
Iron galaxy is responsible for that just as backbone was for hdr.
This game is actually hands on capcom which is why I doubt the button config or gem selection will be optimal.
I bet the interface will be pretty at least.

What the hell do gems have to do with comeback features?
The gem system is a real headache. Logistically it is a huge mess regardless of how TO’s choose to handle it. Ban DLC gems means that TO’s have to check to make sure that some player doesn’t try to sneak them in or what if a newer player just happens to stumple upon them and uses them. It was may have been just an honest mistake. Only allow games that are available with the game presents a similiar problem. It also means that people who show up and what to play with all the gems they worked for will be dissapointed or even at a disadvantage. Banning gems outright seems to be the best option, but it has been stated that you have to play with gems there is no way to turn them off. If we hack the game to change that then we aren’t playing really playing the game. New players will be thrown off when they go to tournaments and there are no gems whatsoever.
The unfortunate truth is the system that has been presented has to be dealt with, ideally before the game comes out. The problem though is that with simply don’t have enough information yet. Once the game comes out we will have all the facts and maybe other options will be presented. Unfortunately, if our fears our confirmed we will have wasted our time and money.
They have already said you don’t have to equip gems.
