The attach mechanic so so broken. Wtf how come I can just glob every jump-in and SMDF every single throw? SFV sucks!!! D:D:D:D:D:D:

what the fuck happened to the nominate for an article button. what the fuck.

Hrm, I see your point, best I can offer is… Necro is Necro. One weird SOB, but I still love “attempting” to play him.

The Necro = Blanka and Dhalsim’s love child argument is a bit of faulty logic as the only thing they have have common is strechy limbs and electricity, which I guess you could say define all the characters, but not really so. Necro still plays completely differently, has an different moveset and doesn’t really share any similar looks to Blanka or Sim.

Both may be stretchy, but Necro is far more offense oriented than Sim. Sim is primarily a keep away, turtley character. Turtling is not as effective with Necro, due to the lack of fireball and teleport. Necro is much more based on offense, and can be somewhat rushdown with his dive kicks and command grab. As for Blanka, Necro has about as much in common with him as he does with Benimaru.

I wanted to add something else, something that annoys me greatly about Capcom and SF. Unlike other fighters like Tekken, Soul Calibur, KOF etc, Capcom never really updates their storylines from game to game. Ryu is always the “wandering karate bum on a quest with no end”, Ken is always the “American karate douche and family man”, Akuma always the ever-so-cliche “ooh he’s evil” karate demon/hobo, Chun the “kind-hearted superwoman with daddy issues”. The only thing that truly changes is the game’s engine.

Fighters like KOF and Soul Calibur always give you an update on each character’s story with the next installment of the game. One thing that SF x Tekken clearly does is make it painfully obvious how boring the SF cast has become. Just look at character’s like Raven, Yoshimitsu, and Alisa Boskonovitch, could you ever see Capcom creating fighters like that? I’m not even a Tekken player really, just wanting to illustrate a point.

I think they updated the stories just enough to show the characters are aging. But not soap opera proportions.

A lot of the SF2 cast’s playstyles would absolutely suck in SF3’s world

So it’s probably for the best they weren’t carbon-copied into it

I dunno, some characters might transition better than others. I highly doubt that matters though, since at the end of the day, this is still SF3. Nobody thinks the game sucks because of “no Dhalsim or Blanka”(nobody that counts, anyway).

As a Tekken player, I wanted to add that changing Paul from I FUCKING BEAT OGRE to a Dan-like clown is not a very good character story decision from Namco as his gameplay sunk with it. So I can give Capcom some props for not doing that.

Street Fighter’s storyline is so fucked up, just from random characters appearing out of nowhere, and not clearly stating who beats who in which games, and having random in-between stories…

Cleaning it up or updating it, versus something chronological like Tekken… Would be like attempting to neatly organize this:
http://swamplot.com/inside-the-messiest-apartment-in-houston-ever/2008-09-23/

at least Tekken kept the story going since day one… Not like SF where you have 5 SF2 games, and then SFAlpha, which is before SF2… then SF3… Then SF4 which is before SF3, but including characters from Alpha who weren’t in 2 and apparently didn’t age (Sakura - though, Soul Calibur didn’t do it well with Ivy), and then some random ass characters are in different versions of Alpha 3 Upper / Max… and some characters from Alpha 3 are ONLY in Alpha 3… Likewise with SF3… It makes zero sense, even if you try to sort through all of it, you’re still going to find yourself saying, “wtf is going on?”

Maybe, just maybe sakura might work with the III engine. Fei would work too, but the rest would just suck.

Rose would be fine too, and if you want to reach… so would Sim.

So… viable options?
From Alpha… gen, juni, karin***, rolento**, rose, sakura
From ST… cammy, feilong*, sagat (…maybe)

I think Sodom would do alright. I’m not sure about Sagat, I think he would be weak in 3S without his zoning, but he does have long range pokes so who knows.

Alpha 3 was one the most played and popular SF games ever.

Nobody saw what I did there.

This is true.

Alpha 3 still sucks though.

I 100% agree.

This is an interesting topic and we all have thought about it from time to time. Honestly 3S works so well because it lacks most of the old cast. It’s an evolutionary leap from the old archetypes of the past that have become so iconic. Every cast member has something of the old cast reflected in their design. Comparisons are sometimes pigeon holing the way characters play but (even if they really don’t) they are obvious nods to the old greats. ie. Hugo (Zangief), Remy (Guile), Necro (Sim/Blanka), Yang (Fei), Q (Barlog) etc. and yet some are completely original Makoto, Oro, Urien, Twelve etc. Although some clearly are based with older characters movesets they are much more an homage and in reality don’t play anything like the SF2 cast.

SF2’s cast is very generic but perfectly suited for it’s timeframe, many of the character designs would be considered plain jane by today’s standards and only are praised by how truly iconic they have become over time. Many of these characters work best based off their designs following a particular engine and often are forced into a “square peg, round hole” dilemma.

I always thought Rival Schools was a good representation of a new generation of Street Fighters. While 3S in my mind is the best and the Alpha is really just a more elaborate SF2. Many characters in RS: PJ share similar traits to the old masters with a fresh hip new vibe. Much in the same way Tiny Toons was a great spiritual successor for Looney Toons.

3S cast is perfect the way it is. I don’t know if the addition of any other Capcom characters would do the current cast justice TBH.
