cuz tekkken sucks???
anyway we should make a thread in GD just asking omni how much a game sold…like how many (xbox)copies did halo1 and halo2 sell? and how many copies did killzone(halo wannabe)
how did cvs2 on ps2 and ngc do?
I think it’s u.s only. Not 100% sure.
One plus for capcom is that it was nothing but profit for SFAC on the Xbox and PS2, seeing as it was a ports. It also outsold CvS2 so that is another plus:tup:
Halo 2 passed 5 million easy worldwide. Halo 1 sold even more.:xeye: also, the pc copy of Halo sold around 500,000. :wow:
you know the numbers to:
GGX (ps2)
GGXX (ps2)
GGXX #R (xbox)
GG Isuka (ps2)
i was kinda wondering how those did
Tekken 5 is not doing bad. Remeber, most of the units sell come after the game became a greatest hit title, which is 20 bucks.
GGX: 47,000
GGXX: 77,000
GGXX#R: 73,000
GGIsuka: 28,000
This is only US numbers. And you guys should keep in mind, these numbers fucking suck!
Lets look at some other fighting games:
Smash Bros on Gamecube: 2.9 million
mk Deception on ps2: 577,000
mk Deception on xbox: 400,000
MK DA on ps2: 1.4 million
MK DA on Xbox: 580,000
Soul Calibur 2 on ps2: 780,000
Soul Calibur 2 on xbox: 569,000
Soul Calibur 2 on gc: 832,000
Dragonball Z Budokai: 1.7 million
Dragonball Z Budokai 2 : 1.27 million
Dragonball Z Budokai 3: 800,000
EVERYTHING outsells Street fighter/GG for the most part.
Omni beat me to it lol!
I didn’t have SFAC’s exact numbers, just that Capcom bragged about it’s strong sales worldwide a few times. Another factor is they didn’t put that much money into it obviously since it’s a collection anyway, less money spent, they turn more profit.
:wow: :wow:
lol, fixed.
Derek
Anyone else find it odd that Virtua Fighter 4 sold a pretty solid half a mil copies yet has like no following whatsoever? Yet SF3 which sold about 1/5th that had the most entries at Evo ??
2d is dead indeed.I can’t believe those same people who buy 3d fighters don’t even bother to buy 2d fighters as well. MK DA 1.4 million,GGXX#R 73,000 hahahaa in what age are we living.
What about the KOF games on PS2 and X-Box?
Anyways, basic summary: 3D sells more than 2D. With 3D you also attract the casual consumer, whereas 2D, not so much. It’s unfair to compare the two genres in terms of sales, really.
I mean, even SFEX3, a game that barely receives the light of day in “hardcore” circles, sold more than MvC2 on PS2, SFAC (which includes Third Strike) on PS2, all CFE, all GG…
Heck, I think that for a 15+ year old game those numbers for SFAC are awesome…especially in this Halo/GTA day and age…
Maybe this will put things in perspective for rabid SF4 fans, begging for a new 2D fighting game. These are the numbers that Capcom sees (at least in this country).
So, for people who claim Capcom was being lazy with CFE, or that they were trying to make a quick dollar with CFE…look at the 2D numbers. It’s a miracle that CFE EVEN MADE IT TO THE U.S. Chances are they knew it wouldn’t sell very much ahead of time, but they brought it over anyway. Does that sound like a company trying to make a quick buck?
And DBZ has the backing of an extremely popular, worldwide franchise.
Anyways, thanks for the numbers!
Erik Ko of Studio Udon once talked about SF AC coming to the US. In his own words he said Capcom approached SCEA (Sony of America) about releasing Hyper SF2 AE and SF3 Third Strike (In Japan they are 2 seperate games for the PS2) for the PS2. In Erik Ko’s words again Sony was very hesitant about bringing it out in the US because they do not have that much confidence in 2D Fighters, but after seeing how well (well enough I suppose) Hyper SF2 AE sold in Japan they let Capcom sell the game here as a collection, and that’s how SFAC came about. Then Capcom released SFAC to the Japanese Xbox, US Xbox and worldwide too.
In the end, I think packaging the two games together was a good idea even if it came about for the wrong reasons. That move probably got more versions of SF3 Third Strike in people’s houses more than anything. I doubt it would of sold as well by itself since most people only care about SF2, people outside of our niche community that is.
2d is the indie movie scene, or the niche foreign film scene of todays videogame scene. The fact that Metal Slug 3,4,5, KOF 2001,02,03, 3rd Strike, CFE, SVC, GGXXR came out for Xbox is a miracle.
The spirit of great competetive fighting games will always live on, even if 2d Street Fighter doesn’t.
Of the 2d genre’s, it’s weird to think that nearly all have died out except for two: Shooters and Fighters. Companys have proven that you make a 3d shooter feel as “nearly” as good as a 2d one (Ikaruga), but I’ve yet to play a 3d fighter that plays like SF. Time will tell if that is possible…
Damn I really got off subject there…
I bought all of them and SFAC. I just can’t seem to find MvC2 for the sexbox yet. Guess I’ll have to order it off the site…
There’s still 2D Action platformers on handhelds, the DS and PSP like Castlevania, Sonic Rush and the upcoming Ghouls & Ghosts Extreme. Seems like the only way companies like Nintendo and Sony will except Action 2D games nowadays. I would love to play a console 2D Castlevania since they’ve yet to make a good 3D one. After playing the demo of their newest Castlevania 3D game I dont’ think it’s going to fare much better either, but who knows maybe the final product will turn out okay.
Does anybody know if current XboxLive suscriptions run over to the Xbox360? Or will people need to buy new 360 specific suscriptions?
Thanks
No you have to get a new subscription for Xbox 360, it’s called either the Gold Package or Silver Package, I forget.
The new Xbox 360 Live subscription will be free though and comes with the purchase of an Xbox 360.
thanx for postign the numbers, omni. I;m glad that sf"ac has sold that many copies, especially for the ps2…Since you work for sony, do you personally think capcom willr elease an alpha collection anytime soon? thanks!
