How Do You Train For A Food Challenge/Contest?

I am entering a Pho Challenge (vietnamese soup, which just so happens to be the most delicious food in existence).
Yeah. Seriously.

2 lbs of noodles, 2 lbs of meat, but I don’t have to finish the broth, and I have one hour to complete my ordeal.

I need some of that japanese hotdog eating skill, combined with possible vietnamese assistance.

Also, normally I eat pho with tons of hot sauce. Should this be avoided (thus sacrificing some deliciousness) if I wish to complete this contest?Should I take the noodles/meat out of the broth in order to win?

Oh, and the prize is not having to pay for the meal, plus free meal next time I go, plus my picture on the wall of fame. And yes, that sounds worth it to me. I am fairly certain this is what I was put on earth to do.

edit: also, I should mention I am not exactly a big guy (but there are pics of previous champs and they’re 120 lb asian kids). I’m a 200lb semi-muscular white guy, so I don’t see any reason I can’t do this.

Oh damn. It’s in SF?! I’m fucking going!

EDIT: Those weren’t champs. That was the wall of shame. No one’s finished it yet. I’m on a fucking mission now.

Water and lettuce

I think you should exercise, don’t just food.

Kobayashi on True Life: I’m a Competitive Eater worked out like everyday.

huh? the link shows a few people who won it. In fact a friend of mine went and finished it last year(or at least I’m sure it’s the same challenge). not sure if his pics are private but

thats not the ACTUAL one I am going to. I wish I could visit California sometime.

Just an example. I also saw one place that does a 10 lb challenge

From what I have heard and read, the main problem is the noodles absorbing all the broth, and the fact you have an hour (its mother fucking hot when you first get it). Dunno what other possibly problems there will be.

I should mention that I am a mother fucking buffet thug when it comes to all you can eat restaurants. Also, all you can eat wing places post warnings signs with my picture on em. I never really figured out how I haven’t got fat yet lol.

DRINK lots of water.
DONT take your time or expect to hit a wall.
EAT before you go.

If you really want, drink a ton of booze… it may or may not help.

the beef will be easy, the noodles will be hard.

Good luck and post your results!

Just remembered this one. Do an extensive workout before hand ie. lifting weights. I mash on food after I workout.

Off the top of my head, I hear “pros” drink a lot of water for a few days before the event. Like gallons or something, to stretch out their stomach and get it ready for lots of food.

Also, protein should go down before you try any kind of carbs, because carbs expand in your stomach (or so I hear) so you feel full faster is you eat those first.

The guy on Man Vs Food, also like to mix flavors to have variety so his mouth doesn’t get tired of the same flavor over and over.

The website doesn’t really specify whether they won or not actually.

stoppin in to say vietnamese food owns

Well considering the loser’s all have signs that say they surrender

I would assume them standing there with an empty bowl that says “You did it” means they won, and like I said my friend did beat this challenge.
Great Success!!
The three challengers

I’d have to say the key is getting it down as quickly as possible… I think it takes around 15 minutes for your stomach to send that “I’m full” signal to the brain… so stomach down as much as possible within 15 minutes then eat the rest at a steady pace.

Good luck, if you get a picture make sure you rep SRK somehow…

my unexperienced advice would be:

starve yourself for 8-10 hours before the contest, go work out really hard, then smoke a bunch of marijuana.

i think that would get the job done.

lol this guy looks like he’s going to explode
Great Success!!

on a serious note, i remember seeing on MTV’s true life, one of the guys would eat a lot a lot of chopped lettuce. he said it expands / stretches your stomach. i think that’s the key.

being in really good shape and having a sharpened metabolism has something to do with it i believe. my friend who is in super good shape and not fat at all can eat more than anybody i know

oh also, eating is like an art in a way, a skill. you must train yourself for a long time, by eating alll day every day to the point where you get sick after meals.

watch man vs. food.

There you have it, good luck with your training.

Where is this place? If it’s in Hamilton I am soo going.

lol this commercial with Kobayashi and another female competitor is hilarious

haha, yeah Sonya Thomas is awesome

I love Pho so freakin much, but that’s a lot of it, lol…

Good luck man.

just thinking of a food challenge is giving me a stomach ache. not because of the fact that you stuff your face, but the after effect (i.e. heartburn, nausea, itis).
