Hangout with Michael Moore? The man knows how to eat!
my friend actually completed this challenge broth and all! i dont know how he prepared for it but i know from past experience and eating with him that he loves to put down that pho.
I’ve thought about this challenge before. I would just take everything out of the broth ASAP and eat it like some soggy pad thai/noodles. If you just mix it a bit to let air in, heat shouldn’t be a problem. Also, probably the biggest time consumer for me is chewing the meat; Maybe you could tear/cut the slices of meat into smaller pieces with your hands while you are chewing another mouthful.
Edit: But maybe you just want to down it like an OG. I’ve been eating extra large bowls of Pho since i was six.
I’ve yet to try Pho before but after reading this and having a place called “what the pho?” next to my house I may try it in the future
it’s called iPho (lol) at Jackson Square. And the girls working their are unbelievable. Makes me wish I was black, just so I could get some off that.
and yeah, I usually get my pho at a place called Pho Dau Bo, and I usually order their large or extra large bowl, and annihilate it in no time, broth and all, usually with meatballs and steak, and can sometimes be still hungry
I went to their website. I didn’t actually look at the yelp page. Well, either way, I’m going. I’ll take pics, etc.
I think I know where that is. It’s on Pleasant Hill, right? I laugh every time I drive past it.
Man, I went to an ESL school that was like 95% asian when I was in high school, and thus got introduced to some of the best damn cooking on Earth. There are two competing pho restaurants within about a block of each other, and they have great priced bowls, and incredible portions, and deliciousness that would make Bison salivate.
As stated, I love mine with the beef strips and meatballs (man those meatballs are fucking GOOD), TONS of sriranchan hot sauce, and I always finish every last fucking drop.
Seriously, I now take dates there, as girls love it as much as guys do, and all my friends have classified pho as a drug due to it’s addictiveness
I’d love to learn to cook it properly (and in massively large quantities)
Hahah, it’s funny cause a friend of mine mentioned this exact challenge to me over sushi yesterday. I was thinking of taking it, since I can finish an XL at Pho Dau Bo most of the time. However, after seeing the size of this bowl, I don’t know if I can take this monster on. I guess me and you both have a challenge now…
i’ve discussed it with many friends. Most say it cant be done, I think I could do some massive damage at the least. I can finish any bowl at PDB, broth and extras and all. I just look forward to a bowl of pho so big I could literally possibly have to walk away from it. But man, 2 lbs of meat alone has me sold. Trying to figure if adding hot sauce would be a good idea though.
I WILL do this contest in the next few months. Not ready for it yet, but train I will.
I’ve eaten some massive stuff before.
A 2lb burger post cooking weight. 3 4x4s at In N Out.
I powerlift so my appetite is ferocious. However, I’ve also eaten 2 Xe Lua sized bowls (XL size) before.
I’d say let the meat cook, it’ll shrink in size about 10%. Eat some of it with hot sauce some if without, same with hoisin as to keep the flavors new to you.
Avoid drinking in broth until the end to fill in the cracks if you do choose so.
You have 20 minutes before your body will probably register its full so eat until you seat and your eyes bleed before then. Then if you hit that wall just try and try.
Good luck!
2lbs of noodles, and 2 lbs of meat doesn’t sound like much honestly.
to put it in perspective, 4 lbs of wings is generally 30+ wings, and that includes bones.
I also buy 1lb Hungry Mans or lasagna and fucking bum rush it
You can always devote your time to something useful aside from becoming a fat, disgusting tub of lard.
If you want.
Why would I wanna do that?
pho is pretty good.
the one time i had it, i added way too much hot sauce i felt like i was eating lava. it was so visually torturous on me that i started pouring my ice water inside to dilute it lol
So the place I originally wanted to go to went under. But I found another place in Toronto that does it. Price is a little high (40 bucks), and you have to finish the broth too, but there is a bit less noodles, and less meat, but the meat is better too.
Is this doable? Who can train me? Anybody attempted something similar? Or any Torontonians who have tried this specific one?
did u win yet
Pho challenge = no
In life = yes
I don’t know man I would rather just have Pho every week than partake in this kind of thing.
