How do you deal with a 40 hour work week?

You cannot afford a lifestyle on minimum wage. McDonald’s actually tried to show their workers how to budget their money with McDonald’s pay and the conclusion was…get a 2nd job

Minimum wage should be the lowest wage to support yourself but it’s not. Based on current living standards, the minimum wage should be $15/hour

you cant afford the lifestyle you want.

I was living on my own when I was making $11 an hour in a $800 1bed apartment.

broke/lazy niggas are the only ones wanting for it to be higher without realizing the consequences.

That’s more than minimum wage,

On minimum wage, you are spending more than you make just to pay bills and that’s the problem

Most apartments are $1000+ per month. A wage of $9/hour gives you $1440 a month before taxes

You see the issue?

thats where you live, there’s $400 studio apartments in Texas

the minimum wage in Cali is $10 I believe. A quick google search will show you there are apartments for around $700. Again, beggers cant be choosers

Did you take into account the location of the apartment, local taxes, living expenses (I’m just talking bare minimum here), and other things? Life isn’t that simple and to paint all with such a broad brush you’re going to cause problems.

1000+ a month for a one bedroom? Where you live? Soho Manhattan? Minimum wage at least how I understand is meant to be the bare minimum for survival. Not even to live decently. Just survive. Which means that if one is making minimum wage. Well they have to settle for the bare minimun which means they could get their own place. But not one that’s decent or in a nice area. They sure as hell can’t afford a car note etc. Those on minimum wage should be looking at getting roomates or just staying with their folks until they are able to step their income up to afford to live on their own.

That’s what I did. Until I finished school and got my certificate and a job in the aviation industry. I stayed with my dad till I was 25. Yeah it sucked at times not having my own but I had to suck it up and live within my means till I got my money up. I mean they can raise the minimum wage if they like. But if they think it’s as simple as changing a number those fighting for this 15 an hour wage are gonna be dissapointed. Like @Jack_Frost said. That wage isn’t gonna go up without it having an effect on something. I.E to compensate. Employeers will raise their pay to employees to make sure no one goes to McDonald’s for that 15 an hour. Which in turn would cause those employers to raise prices on their services and products to afford that extra pay. Which in turn brings us back to square one.

Or another scenario. Employers like Mc Donald’s since they are paying more, will now expect more work from ya. They might cut down their work force and have those remaining do double the work. Or cut hours, or set higher standards for hiring employees. So a job that anybody even a kid in high school or hell a convict can get. Now actually has standards that make it harder for kids and ex cons to get a job.

You don’t live here, do you? A studio in Soho is going yo run you maybe closer to $3K a month.

I also don’t get why people are saying raising the minimum wage is going to be a bad thing. Literally there’s no proof of that. In fact, it’s had a pretty damn good economic effect historically as more money enters the system, meaning more spending and creating more jobs, etc.

why would get an apartment far from where you live?

the only living expenses you need are water/cps/food. what does local taxes have to do with the rent of an apartment? you should be getting income taxes every year (unless you’re an idiot) so thats more extra money.

What about health care? Bills? Children? Not everyone is in the same situation.

I live in yonkers, a 20 minute train ride to NYC, the average apartment is like $1200 in this town. My mother is a realtor so i can see all the inside scoop.

Minimum wage is meant to be bare minimum but yiu cant even get that here with minimum wage and thats the problem

oh dont get me started on new york cost of living LOL paying $1000 to live in a closet

what bills? I already mentioned the only bills you need. Children isn’t something that should be took into consideration because that’s your fault for having kids that you cant support. thats backwards. you work your ass off to be able to afford to take care of yourself and kids, not have kids and expect a job to compensate you lol. As far as health care, thats a whole other issue.

what happen to the $1 double cheeseburgers at mcdonalds?

That was never $1 in NY so I have no idea.

I forgot yall have the $5 value menu in new york

Pretty sure prices are set by the franchise owner, anyway. A lot of them are pricks.

Instead of living that bum life stay at home, go to trade school. Get a good ass job.

they definitely can change, just like overseas and I believe they were a little higher when I went to vegas. airports/etc

http://www.fastfoodmenuprices.com/mcdonalds-prices/ you can see different states here. not sure how accurate but pretty funny

I was raised i the Bronx, but yeah. Unless it was for business I never really set foot in Manhattan.

@Mood4food77 Ok New York in general is an expensive as State to live in. Honestly i don’t know why people who are making less than 50k a year stay there. Like get out and come down south where the cost of living is WAY cheaper. Like I’m only paying 500 a month for my spot and it’s a pretty decent area. But yeah the minimum wage should vary depending on the state and cost of living there. But again get out of NY unless you’re ballin. Also people who are making miimum wage shouldn’t be making babies.
