How do you beat El Fuerte?

It should be called how not to beat El Fuerte

This is specifically the reason I’ve been waiting to update my guide.

AE fuerte is a very different character and you need to learn to reuse him, or lose him- I suggest the latter.

AE console will allow you to pick between the super and ae iterations of sf4 characters, however you cannot play a super character against an AE character, it has to be super v super, or arcade v arcade.

I find my El fuerte AE playstyle very effective and fun, I feel he is more like Remy in 3s, and he should be played similarly.

You don’t do any damage, except for execution intensive combos which are quite difficult to find an opening for- but the key to winning with fuerte is keeping away from damage, and taking as much damage off of your opponent at every hit he allows you to land.

Once console AE comes out I’ll relearn my character and update this guide accordingly- for now Ima blow people up with super fuerte while I still have the chance.

What the fuck? Where’s info on how to beat him with Cody?

Don’t use low ruffian, especially at match start. If you do, He will get two hits off far dropkick, combo into crMK, which means RScrMK or xx super and it’s time for the mixup.

Zonk knuckle’s invincibility is handy. Keep it in mind. Stick to holding HP. Fuerte’s love grabbing. You want to tech. You want to focus splash mountaineers.

CrLP with knife pretty much forces Fuerte to block since it’s fast and has good priority. Handy after a knockdown when he has no meter.

Knife is good in this fight. In Super, Fuerte has lots of slow normals with crap priority. And the knife will allow you to exploit it. If you have a clean opportunity to get the knife, grab the damn thing.

Stop throwing rocks and Use your rock feints when fuerte has meter But be careful if he’s got meter. Do not charge rocks unless he has no meter and is grounded. Otherwise you’re probably going to get RSF’d and/or knocked down for being stupid.

Keep it simple with combos to keep him floored. Fuerte has below average health.

Try your best to stay with the lead. Cody is slow as hell, fuerte can run away all day in this respect.

When you’re behind, don’t get mad, don’t get impatient and DON’T get stupid spamming dashes or ruffian while chasing, grab the knife, stalk carefully. Reason: cody’s front dash has enough recovery to catch a dash spammer with a slide or quesadilla. This is what I personally do vs every Cody I play. They NEVER grab the friggin knife, they start throwing rocks, they start spamming dashes, and I bore poor Cody into a timeout win, then offer him some food.

Try to not get knocked down. Cody’s not very good on wake up against Fuerte. Tortilla kinda eats him alive. If you’re knocked down just pay attention for patterens, remember your back dash and zonk.

Bingo! Hah Hah!

the el fuerte vs el fuerte match just got alot easier with all the nerfs

how are you going to have a thread devoted to undermining and destroying el fuerte in the el fuerte thread?

this is wrong…

sickly wrong…

to fully understand a match up u should understand the other side always. if u know how you can be beaten then u will know what NOT to do. part of learning anything is possible learning what is not rather than what it is. hope that didnt confuse u

The more our opponent understands the matchup the better we’ll have to play. It’s a way to force a fuerte player to improve.

that sounds great… truly

so as soon as we see all the “how to kick the crap out Ryu and Sagat” threads in their respective forums, we can all really start playing fairly…

oh… right… there arent any

jus do everything other than what ur not suppose to do? iono, be creative with elf

I think this thread has become a bit of an embarrassment now, lol. The only people who can’t beat Elf in AE are the people who don’t care enough to be involved in the SRK community.

How to beat Elf? Pick any character with a fast reversal, a good back-dash and safe pressure…

u mad cuz u cant RSF or are you getting RSFed all day?

Tostada.

He must be butthurt that there’s no Oni section. Throw more fireballs yo.

YOU CANT BEAT ME BUT YOU SAY IM SALTY AND MAKE THIS THREAD

Guys.

This thread is just HUGE!

I’d like to annoy you with some questions if you don’t mind.

I’m an Ibuki player and I have such a hard time with El Fuerte. I spent a lot of time playing against a good Fuerte friend of mine and still, I can’t figure out anything. I feel like the pressure Fuerte can put me in on wakeup is totally random.

So basically: how do you react to Fuerte’s pressure?

Here’s my current point of view so you can tell me if I’m wrong:

  • Run back - jump throw : backdash OR neutral jump. Okay this is maybe the only one I can react to, and still, my friend usualy tries to make the backrun as short as possible
  • Forward run - jump throw: crouching should be the best option, but it’s nearly undetectable on eye (or maybe too difficult to react to using my poor eyes) so I’d rather go for a backdash/neutral jump
  • Body splash: playing Ibuki, her command dash looks nice. Otherwise focus - appropriate dash or backdash (although I sometimes get hit if I backdash, maybe the splash was crossup), because I feel like it’s seriously impossible to block in the appropriate direction.
  • Overhead: meh, should I really explain?
  • slide: focus lv2 to crumple, or focus dash, or just crouch block.

I could finally figure out all these things but there is still something I miss: HOW in earth do you react to this? WHERE is the visual clue, saying that Fuerte’s gonna use one mixup?
Let’s take an example: my friend likes to use a whiffed overhead when I’m down to go behind me, and then he’d overhead or slide. So blocking is VERY difficult on reaction.

The main problem is: I feel like I can’t react to Fuerte’s gimmick whatever my concentration level is. So I usually go for a “random” thing, which would basically put me at 60% chance to succeed, which is way too low according to my character’s low health.

So is there any way in this planet I can react to these mixups, with a visual clue I missed, or is the Fuerte matchup REALLY that much “rock-paper-scissors all around” ?
For now, I try to handle this matchup by using ULTIMATE RUSH TIME. This basically sums up as "you don’t know how to counter him? Get him down first so he can’t get you down’, but well… Whenever I’m down, it’s janken all over again

Thanks a lot!

Ibuki has a giant dash, i play against really great ibukis and this seems to be their first choice for escape, however, i just run further away from them and smash them on end point, or run further toward them if they are back dashing

the problem people have with Elfuerte is trying the same thing more than once.

you need to dash forward once, dash backwards once, wake up ex once, block back once, block forwards once, jump counter once, block low once, and dont repeat them until you’ve tried everything else once

ElFuerte is way to fast and has way too many options for anyone to ‘read’ him.

you can however, minimize the damage done by mixing up your block & counter options more than he mixes up his attack,

dont think you arent going to lose out and get hit, because you are, its guaranteed, but you can minimize the amount of time your stuck and the amount of time he succeeds by not repeating yourself at all

Damascus, you say that you have problems with Elf’s pressure, but only mention his wakeup options. Does your friend do ANY run cancels? IMO those wakeup options are only great in tandem with great punishes and baits (And if he isn’t doing those, there is something wrong.) Fuerte can’t survive on just those mixups alone, the risk/reward just isn’t worth it in the long run.

Don’t jump on wakeup…I just don’t know why that would be good at all. Backdash the tortilla, focus the tostada/slide…And Focus backdash if he is using OS techniques.

Fuerte doesn’t have a DP or anything, but a good Elf can use his escape options very well to get back out. Remember, Ibuki has great pressure as well, I’d say that she facilitates the same role that Elf does in a more consistent manner. This matchup is pretty even, whoever can maintain their “vortex” (guh…) longer and more consistently wins.

One problem is, most Fuerte’s all play differently. It’s hard to identify the problem without a video or so. For the most part, you need to recognize a Fuerte’s tendencies FAST. Ibuki has the tools to space Fuerte well and keep him predictable. Recognize his options at certain spacing. He won’t be able to cross up splash if you do. If he wants to get in he’ll most likely have to use meter to run in. Convincing a Fuerte that its a terrible decision to go airborne is gonna be your biggest goal. If you shut that down you take away most of his mix ups. Get the life lead, play it lame and punish when he gets desperate. When the rounds starts, you need to be controlling space and playing solid till you get that knockdown. Then you do what 'buki does and get him caught up in the vortex like a rusty old trailer.

This is all assuming this Fuerte plays it standard.

Thanks a lot!

Does this basically sums up as “hey, this matchup is random, just try the safest options and mix it up with other kinda safe options and pray for Fuerte to do the appropriate pressure” ? I have a lot of trouble saying that a matchup can be random, but in this case I can’t really say the opposite.

@protoman:

Well, I may be wrong, but doing a neutral jump to avoid a jump-throw makes me punish it with an untechable knockdown and start my vortex. However it’s still veryunsave so i don’t especially use it in match conditions.
Also, I’m only speaking about these because they are the actual problem in my case. Whenever i get down, I hate betting on a random solution to get out, and being hit is totally frustrating as I feel like I can’t avoid this in a consistent way.

@RustyShacklefurd:

Well, it’ll be hard to get a video in my case, but that’s of course the main problem. My friend has the habit to change everythnig he does at each round. I can’t even use any kind of mind game to expect something.
Let’s take an example: He often does untechable knockdown - overhead (to go to the other side) - [overhead OR slide OR VERY SHORT runback jump throw OR bodysplash] in a TOTAL random way.
I’d like to say basically that the Ibuki-Fuerte matchup is totally 5 - 5 and sums up to “first down loses”. However the problem is that if he’s down, he’d still have a way to safely escape me (backdashing my kunais and blocking the safe jumps is all he needs) while I have to bet each time I’m down, so that’d transform this to a 5.5 - 4.5 El Fuerte favored.

EDIT:
Wait I forgot that Fuerte has the easiest unblockable on earth against Ibuki. Would that mean we are going to be 6 - 4? :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for your help, you confirmed my actual thoughts about this matchup: controlling space and preventing El Fuerte from coming in is the most important part of the matchup. I’d have to get used to Fuerte’s ways of approaching me to be able to counter them… Time to train.
