Hello I recently (like a few days ago) started trying to get good, but I did not do so well with evil ryu. Can someone recommend a good more aggressive character? I kind of like sakura, but I just keep getting beat down every time. With ryu I was able to get to the trial 19, but I suck with him really bad.
What kind of thread title is that?
EDIT: No, what kind of QUESTION is that even? What do you think?
All characters are “good” in their own way and you can have great success with all of them, except perhaps for Dan (but even that is debatable). Don’t expect to win straight away, you’re gonna get beat down many many times. This game doesn’t reward you straight away like most games, you have to put the work in to get the wins. So in answering the question how do people get so good? It’s simple, practise and experience. Practise in the training room, practice your combos, your ultra setups and practice your matchups. The experience part comes from just playing over and over and over. I’ve played 8000 online matches in 2012, and my win% is only 50%. But I’m so much better than what I used to be.

I’m gonna say Seth, then you’re gonna say “Seth is stupid. I don’t like him”, then this thread will stay stagnant.
By picking cammy. Derp.
In all honesty, it comes down to practice and working 'em fundamentals. No fundamentals and you’ll get exposed as a fraud for picking top tier after it’s been nerfed. Grind out those anti-airs, hit confirms, OSes, footsies, etc.
Oh ok, what about an aggressive character? Like some I see aren’t meant to be played like that and keep you away with move
Picking a different character isn’t going to help. There’s no replacement for a LOT of practice in SF4, watching youtube videos of pro players to get an idea on how to play the match, and learning by going through the forums and absorbing solid information that will help your gameplay.
Trials are only there to teach you how to do basic combos and to test your execution. 80% of the time in a match, you won’t be doing a combo, so focus on what you need to do the rest of the time.
ok I always watch people play online… Since I can’t do it. I have a crappy ps3 controller that is 4 years old and buttons stick xD, I don’t have money for one of those fight sticks though lol, I have the hardest time focus cancelling into stuff
What’s your PSN tag? If you’re willing we could play some matches and I could give you some critique on your playstyle.
REALVINNYBLESS Ive been playing this whole time and getting owned lol. My main issue is doing the move itself… I can hadoken maybe 6 times out of 10
You don’t need a fight stick to become a good player. You just need to adopt an analytical mindset to figure out why you lost, develop a counter strategy, and execute it. If it works, great, if not, go back and figure out what you did wrong. Watching basic tutorials on youtube, as well as studying the information found in these forums, is a great way to get started.
I did for evil ryu, but god I just can’t use him good, is he just hard to use or something?
Ok, I’ll send you a request in a minute. Arcade Edition is currently re-downloading, so that might take a while…
But in the meantime, since it seems like you’re comepletley new to this game, I would suggest that you stop grinding online and start practicing in the training room. Try out all of the different characters, and figure out which speaks to you. And once you’ve gotten that down, stick with it and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
***I cannot stress the fact that you must practice enough. ***In these begginer times you should be spending every single waking moment practicing your combos, setups, and general strategy for the character that you’ve chosen. You will be in the training room for hours every single day, inching your way towards better character control and learning your good/bad matchups. This is crucial. If you don’t do this, you will not progress well.
In terms of an agressive character, you could try Cammy. She’s one of the best characters in the game at this point.
watch good high level players for your character
practice what they do in training mode until you can do it
try to do it in a real match. if it works, great. if it doesn’t, think about why it didn’t. what is he doing differently from what you’re doing?
Hours of Good Hardworking.
Just a little HGH is what you need.
Wait are you telling me you picked up the controller and played for a hour and aren’t on the same level as other good players?
Man… I got nothing.
Ok I gotta know
What exactly is going on in your av man
HEY! I practiced all day the last 2 days!, I’ve played for awhile but just messing around, I mean recently I want to be good xD I am just now able to beat arcade with evil ryu on hardest, but I am not doing that again
