How do I prevent blisters from D-Pads?

try those winter gloves. they are soft, so they should help. Dont wear those leather gloves cuz obviously the finger sockets are too fat, you dont wanna end up pressing the wrong buttons. They shouldn’t be expensive either, so its quite affordable.

One of those thin gloves one of the MVC 2 players was wearing at EVO, the big guy with the ponytail, those should work.

thanks you two

if you’re going to be playing on a pad, you gotta either adjust your style or tough it out. I used to get thumb blisters all the time, but practice for hours through the pain anyways. I never got them after a point.

Now that I play stick tho, it’s never an issue.

Of course there are people who don’t get blisters no matter how crazy they go on their pads/sticks. I guess they were born with super skin lol.

You could take a tip from Curley (Of Mice and Men) and wear a glove with some vasoline inside.

You can’t period. The only way you can slow it is finding a pad with a “softer” dpad, and it still won’t stop it completely. My ps2 pad feels “softer” than my ps3 one by far.

is this to say gloves won’t help?

dude buy a stick or buy the XBox 360 SF4 Fightpad. The D-Pad on the Fightpad is sick

I never developed any blisters from playing pad and I only play on pad (PS2 pad) I am sure alot of people have already said this but you may be playing a bit too rough, one thing I’ve seen some pretty good pad players do is keep a bandana with them and place it over the D-pad and play like that

thanks man. most useful idea I’ve seen on here yet.

I dont rub the middle of my thumb on the dpad I use to do that when in the snes era and I found that just doing a pressing motion instead of rubbing makes it easier on your thumb with a dreamcast pad and ps also playing with a stick stops it all.

The only time I’ve ever gotten blisters from any game in my life was when I played SFA3 at my brother’s house once on an old PSX controller. I’d played other fighting games on that d-pad previously with no pain but my thumb was just murdered after that night.

I second whoever said to place it center and tilt to the movements, it’s much less cramping to the thumb.

you’re going to get blisters. might as well just get a stick

wear those cotton gloves.

even if you switch to stick, you might get one of those bumps i have on your left hand from resting/rubbing against the wood of the stick

If you cant afford a stick there is always the Mad Cats Fight Pad which is a great one, The larger dpad helps a lot.

Keep on playing till your thumb gets nice a hard.

Actually fuck that… get a stick.

I’ve been playing on PS2 pad for over 6 years and I have played 5 or more hour sessions on weekends n such and I have NEVER gotten blisters.

IMO PS2 d-pad is by far the best d-pad of all.

That might be cause of my sweaty hands though.

One thing I always like to do to avoid blisters(or what my friends and I like to call the “button masher’s thumb”) is wrap your thumbs in bandage tape, as during the more tense matches I tend to press the buttons a little harder. That or wear gloves(I’d prefer leather, but softer materials can help with sliding motions) whenever the tape is unavailable.

Short-term solution: go grab a glove, or some band-aids (personally I couldn’t stand this back in my pad days, but I have a friend who swears by 'em).

Long-term solution: Save up for a stick. Seriously, man, as a former Pad Warrior, I was skeptical, but a stick is honestly where it’s at for fighting games.
